Hi, I am writing to ask if anyone is working or has worked as a case admin in the probation service? What’s your experience like and what were the day-to-day jobs? I have been offered the role in a national probation office and am hoping to learn a bit more about it.
Hi, I have two job offers and am confused about which one to go for. Any help deciding would be appreciated. The first one is an operations support assistant at the Crown Court, and the second one is a case administrator for the probation service. Both are AO and about 45 mins away to commute.
I’ve got an EO interview coming up with Ofsted for a Delivery Support Officer role and could really use some advice from people familiar with Civil Service EO interviews.
The interview will assess a mix of behaviours plus experience/technical skills from the person specification. The role focuses quite heavily on:
prioritising and managing multiple tasks
stakeholder communication
working independently without close supervision
strong IT/admin skills
handling competing deadlines
Most of my previous Civil Service interviews have been more strengths-based, so I’m a bit nervous about the “experience/technical” side of this one and how detailed they expect answers to be at EO level.
Background wise:
I currently work in a highly regulated nursery environment as a Head Cook with a lot of compliance/admin responsibility
I’ve had some AO interviews before and passed some strength sections well
I tend to struggle more in face-to-face interviews with keeping flow/confidence in longer answers
A few questions:
How different are EO interviews compared to AO?
When they say “experience/technical”, what kind of questions usually come up?
How detailed should STAR answers be for EO level?
Any tips for sounding more natural instead of overly rehearsed?
Would really appreciate any advice from people who’ve gone through similar interviews recently.
I have been applying for AO roles for the past few months and have passed sifts 6 times so far. I have been on two reserve lists and am still awaiting interview results. All roles have been within MoJ/ HMPPS. Yesterday I got an email about being offered a position through my reserve list for an AA position in the business hub of a local prison. I really am looking for a career change but would be taking a significant pay cut to enter CS. I am worried about progression and if it is the right step to accept the AA position instead of AO.

Hi I am trying to understand the civil service scores. I scored 31/37 for a post with 22 vacancies and still in reserve list. Quite disheartening to be honest. This was my fifth interview as well, don’t know how to improve the scores from here. Anybody been in similar position?
