I missed the feeling of early-2000s Yahoo Messenger and AIM — public chat rooms full of strangers, chunky buddy-list icons, the YM yodel on sign-in, and the Buzz! that shook your entire window.

Modern chat apps are great for work and communities, but the casual “third-place internet” vibe mostly disappeared.

So I built Yaboo!Chat.

• Public chat rooms with categories like Just Chatting, Tech, Gaming, Nostalgia, and more
• IMvironments — choose “Fishtank” and the whole room gets animated bubbles and swimming fish. There are five themes so far: Fishtank, Beach, Stars, Disco, Matrix, plus the classic cream-paper look
• Buzz! — shakes the chat window for everyone, complete with the YM yodel
• Reactions, quote replies, real-time presence, per-room nicknames, status messages, and voice chat (P2P mesh, up to 6 speakers)
• DMs with the same nostalgic vibe
• Room moderation tools: disable Buzz, kick/temp-ban with reasons, mute timeouts
• Works as a PWA on IOS and Andriod

It’s still early and definitely buggy. I’m usually hanging out in the room “Kokorochat and Yaboochat,” so drop in and tell me what’s broken, missing, or just feels off. Even “the colors look weird on my phone” is genuinely helpful.
