I genuinely think my MIL is exhausting

My fiance and I couldn't figure out what to get his mom for mother's day. He eventually said she's been saying she needs new clothes so we decided to give her money to shop.

We live outside the US so online shopping it is.

I called her, in front of him, and told her the plan and asked if she liked that idea and she was most excited.

She's not tech savvy in the slightest, I told her I'd come and sit with her and do it all, because her daughter definitely wasn't going to do it. And I was sure to mention that unfortunately she wouldn't get the items on mother's day and she was fine with that.

She usually has a mother's day brunch and while we're there, my fiance's grandmother asked her what her kids got her for mother's day, to which she replied "nothing".

So his grandmother proceeds to berate him for being an inconsiderate son and he should know better la la la.

After his grandmother is done, his mother would then say "well I think they're (him and I) getting me clothes or something online."

My fiance said nothing even though he was visibly upset. Saying something would've only made the situation even more exhausting in the days to follow.

I try so damn hard with this woman. I always try to understand her point of view but I can't shake the annoyance I have with this situation.
