University of Melbourne vs UNSW for Business/Commerce— Advice Needed
Hi everyone, I’m currently in Year 12 and have received foundation offers from both the University of Melbourne and UNSW Sydney. After the foundation, I’ll continue into their business/commerce degree programs.
I’ve done quite a bit of research already, and from what I understand, Melbourne seems to be more academically/research-focused, while UNSW is considered more practical and career-oriented.
My personal goal is to hopefully gain some work experience in Australia first, then possibly return to Taiwan in the future either to start a business or work in finance/business-related fields. Because of that, internships and employability are pretty important to me. Also, I hope the Uni has a more entrepreneurial scene
However, I also keep hearing that Melbourne has a much stronger reputation internationally (especially back in Taiwan), and many people online say that if you eventually want to return to Taiwan, Melbourne may have better prestige and alumni recognition. I’ve also heard Melbourne has stronger networking opportunities and that the overall student cohort is more academically competitive.
On the other hand, many people also say UNSW is better for getting local jobs in Australia, especially because of its industry connections and internship opportunities.
For people currently studying at either university (especially commerce/business students), which one would you personally recommend and why?
Would really appreciate any honest opinions or experiences from current students or graduates. Thanks so much!
