Flaring up with nerve pain
I’ve been treating U. parvum for two weeks with doxycycline and about to start my azi.
I have all the typical urinary symptoms but my worst and most debilitating symptom is extreme clitoral arousal/nerve pain that extends down my legs and feet (I believe my pudendal nerve is highly irritated from infection). My nervous system gets so hypersensitive when it happens that I get nauseous, muscle cramps, can’t eat or tolerate light or sound. It sends me to a dark place.
My biggest flare up was after I tried using a tens machine in the area as instructed by my pelvic floor PT - this was before we knew it was an infection, I thought I just had clitorodynia from skin barrier damage via scented toilet paper and masturbating but once the UTI symptoms and discharge started we considered infection and I tested positive for parvum. I put the pieces together and realized all my issues slowly started after unprotected sex 4 months ago and thus cascaded into these symptoms and I was feeling relieved to find an answer with UP.
I flared up the first week of doxy as expected but settled again in the second week and was doing so much better but after attempting some pelvic floor stretches and some internal stimulation two nights ago I’m back in a severe nerve flare up and I’m terrified I’ve triggered a long flare.
Do I just need to give myself time as I’m still at the tail end of treatment and at what stage is it safe to start pelvic floor therapy again given the nerves are so hypersensitive? I know we preach PFT so much here but there must be cases in which you need to let the infection and irritation heal first before attempting pelvic work that could irritate it further?
