Fix your mindset before starting your focus timer

Hey everyone,

I built Focus Ritual for Android because standard timers never really solved the transition problem for me — jumping straight into a timer without shifting mindset usually led right back to doomscrolling.

Instead of just starting a clock, Focus Ritual forces a quick mental shift before your timer starts. When you hit Begin Ritual, it runs a brief countdown showing impactful, topic-specific motivational quotes to lock your brain into focus mode. Once you complete a session, you claim a collectible Focus Card to make your progress tangible.

Google Play: Get Focus Ritual on Android

Lifetime Premium Giveaway (20 Codes)

To celebrate launching Focus Ritual on Android, I’m giving away 20 Lifetime Premium Codes (redeemable via the Google Play Store).

Premium includes:

  • 🎨 6 Premium Themes
  • 🏷️ Custom Categories & Quotes (create your own categories with personalized quotes)
  • 📊 Deep Analytics (detailed daily, weekly, and monthly stats)

How to Enter:

  1. Upvote this post so more people in the community can find it.
  2. Comment below with the #1 thing you want to focus on today (e.g., "Building a new feature""Studying for exams""Reading 30 pages").

I’ll run a random picker in 48 hours to draw the 20 winners and send the redeem codes directly to your DMs!
Meanwhile download the app and try the free version!

Feedback and constructive criticism are always welcome. Let me know what you think!

Focus Ritual (Android) — a focus timer with a short priming ritual before each session

Hey — sharing Focus Ritual, an app I've built for Android.

The problem it's built around: staying focused once you're in it usually isn't the hard part — it's the 15-20 minutes before, where you know what you should be doing and just can't switch into it.

So instead of a plain timer, there's a short priming step first — three quick cards (mindset → identity → activation) with punchy lines that set the tone before the clock starts. Each mode (Work, Study, Reading, Build, Practice...) has its own voice — over 350 handwritten lines total, so a "Deep Work" session reads calm and monastic, while "Practice" mode reads aggressive and competitive. Then a distraction-free timer, and a shareable "Focus Card" at the end as proof you did the session.

Video above is a real screen recording, not a mockup.

It's free to use right now while I'm testing. I'm around if you have any questions, ideas, or anything else.

Built a focus-ritual timer app (Android), now in prerelease

Hey all — this is Focus Ritual, a side project I've been building for Android.

The problem I kept running into wasn't staying focused once I'm in it — it's the 15-20 minutes before, where I know exactly what I should be doing and just can't switch into it.

So instead of another plain timer, there's a short priming step first — three quick cards (mindset → identity → activation) with short, punchy lines before the clock starts. Each mode (Work, Study, Reading, Build, Practice...) has its own tone — over 350 handwritten lines total, so a "Deep Work" session reads calm and monastic, while "Practice" mode reads aggressive and competitive. Then a distraction-free timer, and at the end a shareable "Focus Card" as a bit of proof-of-work.

Video above is a real screen recording, not a mockup.

It's in prerelease right now and free to use while I'm testing things out. If you want to try it early, I'll drop the link in a comment below instead of here. I'm around if you have any questions, ideas, or anything else.

Choosing the best personal domain for a future power systems / energy engineer

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide on the best domain name for my personal website and would love some outside opinions.

A bit about me:

  • I’m 22 years old
  • I’m starting to study Power Systems Engineering
  • I plan to continue with a Master’s in energy / renewables
  • I’m interested in:
    • power systems modelling
    • renewable energy dynamics
    • energy data science
    • control of power systems
  • I want to build a personal brand around engineering + learning + energy systems
  • I also plan to write blog posts about:
    • energy systems concepts (technical)
    • learning strategies
    • discipline and productivity
    • my journey in the energy field
    • projects in energy data science and simulations I build

Now I’m deciding between these domain options, all are available:

  1. firstname.energy
  2. firstnamelastname.energy
  3. firstnamelastname.com

What would you recommend and why?

Thanks!
