Uk/Italian citizen with passport mismatch which cannot get a uk passport without changing Italian passport name! What’s the fastest way to fix this?
Hi all, I am an Italian citizen born in the uk and have only recently gotten uk citizenship. I am currently in the process of applying for a British passport, however my application has been put on hold and my documents sent back to me due to the name in my Italian passport not matching the name of my British passport application.
My Italian passport only has my paternal surname whereas my uk birth certificate and citizenship certificate have the addition of my maternal surname.
I have been told by HM Office I should change the name of my Italian passport however this is a very lengthy and tedious process I do not wish to endure.
Is it recommended that I used a deed poll to match my uk name to that on my Italian passport, therefore dropping my mother’s surname? This seems to be the fastest option as I’m on a time crunch for a holiday in late July.
Or should I endure the Italian name changing process, or is there any other evidence I can submit to HM Office to get them to issue me the British passport without any name or document changes?
Many thanks.
