Washington Passport Agency (DC) not processing passports "due to commemorative 250 design"

I called at 8AM today to try and schedule an appointment but the agent said no passports are being processed in DC "due to the commemorative 250 passport design" and I have to go to philly. I asked several times wtf they meant and got the same scripted-sounding answer each time.

Trip is in less than 2 weeks. What can I do besides going to philly? How much do brokers charge for a 24 hour passport?

Passport badge rubbed off

My passport’s badge is completely rubbed off and I haven’t had a problem travelling with this passport in the past maybe 20 countries but this one time today in Macedonia (Ohrid) it was checked multiple times and the border officer told me to get it changed. Very weird and it’s the one and only time - what should I do, should I get it changed or keep it as it is and hope I won’t have any other issues? It is a biometric EU passport so I doubt it’s really much of an issue to have the cosmetic part a bit worn if the pages are all intact and not damaged.

Cannot prove I'm my child's mother

Hi all. Just applied for passports for my kids, and on one of their birth certificates my name is slightly different to the other birth certificate (in one my name is double barrelled, and on the other it is not). For context, my name was double barrelled during my former marriage to the father of the children.

HM Passport Office have said that they need evidence that my name was changed legally, such as on the marriage certificate. However, only my regular (non-barrelled) name was on the marriage certificate. Therefore I have no evidence that I am the mother of my older son...

I did ask when my ex-husband and I were speaking to the registrar whether I need to legally change my name to the double barrelled version and they said there was no need and I could just start using it (hence why I did that on my first son's birth cert).

I've spoken to HM Passports on the web chat and they said they have made the case officer aware. But I'm just interested if anyone has faced a similar issue and how it panned out. I am a panicker and I'm just envisioning a future where my kid never has a passport...

Loosing 2 passports at the same time

So, most countries are part of that convention according to which you can’t make your citizen stateless

Now, let’s take a dual citizen
Let’s say French and British (both part of that convention)
The said citizen could lose French citizenship, after what Britain would not be able to do the same, otherwise the person would be stateless

Now, what happens if both countries strip the citizen of his citizenship at the same time, at the same date of the decree/decision, with the decrees entering into force at the same time ?

(USA) Boston Expedited Question

Hi everyone. First of all, I live in Oklahoma. On June 26th, I went to renew my passport for the first time over 16 years old so I had to file a new DS-11… On July 1st I got the email saying my passport is “In Process”. I have a trip planned out of country to Punta Cana on August 2nd. I did pay $60 for the expedited process and paid for the 1-2 shipping… So the question I came here to ask is how long did it take for you guys to recive your passport? I know it says 2-3 weeks, but could it come sooner then that?

In which situation(s) is having a certificate of authenticity for a US passport useful for/when traveling? And is it useful in some other situations?

US Secretary Marco Rubio announced in June 2026 that future US passports sent by mail will have a new packaging, which includes a dedicated presentation box and a certificate of authenticity for all future passports.

I wonder what the point of having a certificate of authenticity for a US passport is. In which situation (s) is having a certificate of authenticity for a US passport useful for/when traveling? And is it useful in some other situations?

not smart enough to work out uk/canadian to usa passports

I'm 100% overthinking things but I'm also just not very smart and don't know a lot about travel.

was born in canada and have a canadian passport, but ive lived in the uk about a majority of my life and would be travelling to the usa from the uk. never been to the usa either.

dumb questions incoming; do i bring both passports with me, showing the canadian ones to get into the usa and the british passports when returning to the uk? do i have to apply for the ESTA or anything or does the canadian passport cover all that?? the flights im looking at go scotland -> iceland / somewhere else in europe layover -> american state, its totally fine for me to do that route with the canadian passport / without actually going to canada itself right?? i am really pedantic and overthink literally everything so i just want to make sure im on the right track for things. thank you sorry this is a mess lol

(USA) Completing DS-82 while living abroad. Do I enter my new surname or my maiden name in box A?

This is a stupidly simple question, but I'm overthinking it now. I'm changing my name after marriage, so I'll be supplying a marriage certificate for name change evidence. I've just confused myself as to what my "current legal name" is.

Using a different passport to visit Japan after 10 years

For context: I am citizen of 2 countries and have 2 passports (both passports are eligible for visa-free travels to Japan from what I know). I did quite a bit of travel to Japan from 2016-2019 using my birth-place country passport - let's call it Country A. I now live in Country B and using passport B for travel to other countries.

Question: Now Passport A has already expired long-time ago, so I currently obtain only one non-expired passport from Country B and will travel to Japan next week. I am a bit overly-anxious, even though I know that the dual nationality ban only applies to Japanese citizens, but would there be any issues trying to visit Japan using the passport from Country B?

Thanks in advance guys!

Travel to US with dual national (Spain/USA) children who do not have American passports

Hello, I hope someone here can help me. I need to travel to the US on Tuesday and will be going with my wife and two children. My wife is Spanish, I am American, both my children are my natural born children and therefore American citizens as well. The problem is that neither of my children have American passports. One is two years old and the other only two weeks old, and I have not been able to acquire American passports for either of them, though they both have valid Spanish passports.

From what I understand my wife is eligible for the visa waiver program as a Spanish citizen, and I assumed my children were as well, but I have been made to understand that this isn't the case due to the fact that they are my children and therefore American citizens as well, making them ineligible.

This is all a mess, we travel on Tuesday this coming week and I cannot contact the American embassy in Spain due to it being the weekend. I should have done this the last week but I was hospitalized and did not have this on my mind until now. Am I fucked and not going to be able to travel? Or should I simply request the visa waiver for my children?

I hope someone may have experience with this, thank you.

Edit: if anyone is aware of any subreddits that may provide more likelihood of a quality answer please let me know :)

Mould on passport

I have been living in the UK and now have mould on my Australian passport. I want to go back to Australia soon.

WIll this be a problem when I go home? There is quite a bit of mould, but you can see all the wrirting clearly. Also this was issued in 2018 so there is a biometric chip in there.

Getting a replacement passport is a pain as I have to travel all the way to London which is many hours away.

I heard the UK people dont care about who leaves, so that shouldnt be a problem? And obviously I am full of Australian ID.

What do you guys think?

Maiden name

I recently got married and changed my last name. I of course changed my new married name with the social security office back in May 2026. I submitted a DS-82 form for a name change. I submitted my marriage certificate AND a copy of my marriage certificate with my old passport (with my maiden name). I received my new passport today but it has my maiden name?? I am confused because in box 1 of DS-82 I filled out my new legal married name which matches my marriage certificate. Has anyone come across this issue?

Expedited new passport timeline

I paid for expedited services with expedited shipping.

6/24 - Went to FedEx to get picture taken at 8am. Then drove over to nearby post office that accepted walk-ins 8:30-9:30am. I was in line at 8:20. Luckily, I was the only one waiting for passport applications that morning since they only accept 4 applicants in the one hour window. . I was in and out in less than 10 mins.

6/30 - I received an email stating my application was received on 6/29 although the website still showed Status not available.

7/1 - Status changed to In process on website.

7/2 - Received email with tracking number that passport was shipped on 7/1.

7/3 - Passport delivered

Infant passport photo

We went to Walgreens today and had my baby’s passport photo taken. My concerns are my husband’s hand being in the picture and her head being slightly turned. We have a trip in 6 weeks so I am worried about it being rejected. Has anyone had any luck with anything like this?

Went to renew my sons passport today. Living in the San Francisco bay area, many posts offices have no appointments months in advance. Was able to book at alviso post office a few days ago, a small rural post office with alot of availability. Nice awesome staff, we were done in 15 minutes.

Is my passport too damaged to travel?

A couple of years ago I had my passport in a bag and some juice spilt on it. I haven’t had to use my passport since then and I just booked to go away next month and only just remembered about my passport and am now anxious they won’t allow me through. All the info reads fine , the laminate page is clear , there isn’t any ink spillage or anything. It’s literally just crinkling paper , with slight bubbling on the photo page above the laminate one.

I’m going from UK to Krakow by the way.
