I'm starting a new job next week, and am planning on using my passport as my proof of US citizenship. However, I'd also like to renew it as it's expiring next June. Will renewing my passport cause my current copy to become invalid for proving my citizenship, or do I need to wait to renew?

Edit: to make things clearer, will my old passport still work for an I-9 if I'm in the middle of renewing it?

My 10-year US passport book is valid until June 2027, but I’d like to renew it now because I have an upcoming trip to Asia in the first week of January. The country I plan to visit requires my passport to be valid for at least 6 months beyond my travel dates.

When I tried to renew my passport online, the system said I wasn’t eligible and would need to apply another way.

I’m curious why I’m not eligible for online renewal. Has anyone experienced this or know what might be the reason?

**Update:** Thank you for all the comments! After about 20 attempts using incognito mode, clearing my cache and cookies, and trying different browsers/devices. I finally managed to renew my passport online. I still have no idea why it kept failing on my previous attempts.

Im an american born citizen but ive lived my entire life in southamerica. My US passport expired and i need tips to renew it, is it less convenient to renew it if i lost it than if i still have the last one? I understand you have to hand it over if you still have it but id love to keep it as a memory. Is there anything that i should know in advance for my convenience? How long should it take? And lastly, do you think ill meet any difficulties renewing it considering im chilean and lived here (chile) my whole life? Considering current political tensions, etc

i’m a 17 year old immigrant moving here when i was 5, my mother had recently lost my greencard,social security card, and nigerian birth certificate. But ive had my greencard since 2018, my dad became naturalized in 2015 and my mom in 2017 so im pretty sure i became a citizen through that. the thing is i’m bringing a photocopy of my greencard and social security, along with the expired nigerian passport i came to america with (it has the I-551 stamp in it) along with my dads u.s passport and a copy of his certificate of naturalization. i have other stuff like my highschool diploma, immunization records from when i lived in north carolina, and school id’s (im in my first year of cc) along with a photocopy of my nigerian birth certificate, yet i think me and my dad are trying to figure out a way to get another official nigerian birth certificate. would this be able to get me my u.s passport?

the amount of people with different materials on their passport and then asking if its valid is truly bizarre.

My friend is a U.S. citizen traveling in London and was pickpocketed yesterday, they stole her wallet and it had her passport. She therefore also has no driver’s license or other physical photo ID.

She is supposed to take the train from London to Paris on Monday, Oct 5th.

She is trying to get an emergency passport appointment at the U.S. Embassy in London. We know she needs to go through the emergency passport process, but we’re trying to figure out the best way to actually get an appointment given the short timeline.

For anyone who has recently dealt with the U.S. Embassy in London for a lost/stolen U.S. passport, especially on an emergency basis:

- How did you get the emergency appointment?
- Did you email LondonPassports@state.gov, call, or use the online appointment system?
- How quickly did they respond?
- Did you receive a same-day/next-business-day appointment?
- Is there anything specific you said in the email or phone call that helped get it prioritized?
- Does having the Eurostar ticket to Paris Monday help?
- Lastly will the emergency passport be OK going from the UK to France?
