GE Slide-In Induction and Convection Range oven caught on fire less than 3 months and on 4 th use. Model PHS700AY1FS

It gets stranger: a Bodewell technician inspected it in person on 8/5, took photos, and verbally confirmed a likely faulty coil — told me I’d get a replacement. Less than 24 hours later, GE called and reversed that finding, now claiming “particles in the bottom,” and denied the claim. No documentation, no explanation for the flip.

I filed with the CPSC and BBB, sent a formal written demand, and was prepared to go to small claims. GE has now agreed to replace the unit — but explicitly on a “goodwill basis,” not as an admission of a defect.

Posting this because a brand-new range catching fire on its 4th use, with a contradictory inspection process and a company that avoids acknowledging fault even while replacing the unit, feels like something other owners should know about — especially given how quickly the story changed once photos were taken.
