Does anyone here know the step-by-step process for translating mods in Elden Ring?

  • I've been using a method that consists of using WitchyBND to unpack the item_dlc02.msgbnd.dcx and menu_dlc02.msgbnd.dcx files from the folder I want to translate, generating two folders with several FMG files.
  • Then I create a project in Smithbox, choosing the folder location as the project directory.
  • After that, I translate only the mod text, which appears in green.
  • Finally, I save everything in Smithbox, repack the folders back into DCX files, and place those DCX files into the target translation folder, such as engus for example.

The problem is that when I do this and launch the game, the entire game text gets replaced by bars/squares, so I think I did something wrong. Could someone give me some guidance?
