Advice on Accidental "Plagiarism"
Hello everyone, I wanted to post in here to get some advice on a unique thing that happened to me today. I've been working on a song for a couple of days now with a coda section I really like and have been trying to perfect. The problem is I only just found out it sounds strikingly similar to the intro of a totally different song. Same general chords, melody, tempo. What's making this situation a lot more difficult for me is that until this morning, I had never once heard the song it sounds like I'd be ripping off. I wanted some advice from you all as this isn't really a moral issue for me, but just a kind of difficult situation I don't know how to navigate. I can very confidently say this isn't some form of subconscious plagiarism, but now that the comparison's in my head it's hard to focus on finishing the song without feeling bad about the whole thing. I don't even share the songs I write with people, but the mere knowledge of the similarity makes me feel like it sounds unoriginal. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or similar experiences.
