International student moving for Big 4 internship – Need realistic rent & cost of living advice! 🇲🇺
Hi everyone!I just landed an internship at a Big Four firm in Mauritius starting soon. I am super excited, but as an international student, I am trying to figure out the logistics, especially accommodation and budgeting.
My office will be located in the Ébène / Moka area. From my initial research online, rent directly in Ébène or Moka seems incredibly expensive (Rs 35,000+), which is way over my student budget!I would love to get some realistic advice from locals or expats currently living there:
-Where should I look for affordable housing? I heard that towns nearby like Quatre Bornes, Rose Hill, or Beau Bassin are cheaper and connected to Ébène via the Metro Express. Is this a good strategy for a daily commute? What is a realistic rent price?
-How much should I expect to pay for a private room in a shared apartment (colocation) or a small studio in those nearby towns? What is the total monthly cost of living? Excluding rent, how much should I budget monthly for groceries, utilities, internet, and using the metro/buses
-Where can I find student listings? Are there specific Facebook groups, local websites (like Lexpress Property), or student housing networks you recommend to find roommates?
Any tips on saving money as a student or navigating the area would be highly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance! 🙏
