Book promotion!!! UGH!!!

I'm done promoting booksook on Insta, YouTube, or whatever platform it is. The burnout is so real and frustrating. Like, how do I make sense of this Insta algorithm??? Post it at this time... post it at that time; use these SEO keywords; post like this, like that. I'm not an influencer, nor am I a content creator.

I'm just a writer who has written her book and now wants an audience for it. That's it!!!

Readers are part of the problem too...

Everyone criticises authors when they write problematic stuff, or when all authors write the same kind of stories or use the same tropes, but isn't it partly the readers' fault too, because they hyped those things up and now authors have to write them just so readers will notice them and their books as well?

I have seen the hate for the forced marriage trope and age gaps, especially 18× 30s and though I absolutely agree that these things are problematic and have to be called out. But in late 2023 and early 2024, and even now, reels promoting this stuff have major likes and "book name" comments. And also, books like this have high view counts.

And don't get me started on how readers keep hyping up the authors who are problematic, rude and clearly ask readers not to read their book when they share constructive criticism.

So maybe authors aren't the only problem; it's readers too

Comfort Read or Engaging read?

We all have those books that are our comfort reads, where the plot can be simple, but the characters and book setting just resonate with us, and then we have those books that keep us hooked and have a solid plot. Which one would you choose?

Also, drop your recommendations for each genre, and please not the already popular ones, but the underrated ones.

Why recommend already popular books when asked for underrated ones?

I recently came across a reel where the admin asked for suggestions on underrated Wattpad books, but guess what? The comment section was filled with the same popular books with millions of reads. And not just that, I see editors and book review pages promoting the already popular books.

Like bro, I understand those books are good, and you like them, and yes, you have the right to make reels about them, but also understand that those books are already popular; the authors have thousands of followers who engage with their content and help them in promoting their reels by engaging with it. And with that strong reach, they get new readers every day. So why don't you give other writers or new writers a chance?

At least from those 10 reels you make on books that are already popular, why not make 1 dedicated to new or underrated books?
