so i watched 'The Odyssey' last night and I was bit...underwhelmed. the first 40 mins of the film play out like a movie trailer, where everything is rushed, with some really abrupt cuts, that doesn't immerse you into its world at all. the dialogues were also a bit cheesy in this section. It was only until the trojan horse scene when I got into the film. The cyclops scene was fantastic, and so was the scene with Circe. Some of the set pieces were great. but this almost felt like a movie of great set pieces, rather than a great film. All the character scenes outside of the set-pieces felt pretty flat. The thematic elements of the film ( guilt and remorse), does come together quite well in the final act ( last 40-45 mins), and those were the strongest parts of the film. I wish the rest of the film was more fleshed-out. Robert Pattinson is playing a typical 'bad guy' in a hollywood blockbuster, and Tom Holland's performance was very flat. Overall, a good spectacle, with a great final act, but lacking otherwise. A 6/10 for me.
If you have seen this film, what are your thoughts on it ? What were the things that worked or didn't work for you ?
Anyone here who are into David Cronenberg films ? or just body horror in general ? I recently got into Cronenberg, and this is my fav from the ones I've seen so far
Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
Beautiful film by Mohsen Makhmalbaf that blurs the line between fiction and reality.
A beautiful, filthy masterpiece.
The film that invented the colour red.
Dir. by Jafar Panahi
Incredibly bleak and powerful movie about political corruption and abuse of power
The king of Comedy (1982)
