Fight or flight mode when hungry?
Hi all,
I am hoping for some advice. My body seems to be incredibly sensitive to hunger and eating less than I need. If I eat a conventionally “normal”and balanced breakfast but it’s not quite enough food to make me feel full, I will be very low energy and unable to focus until I can eat more food. I have also noticed that if I don’t get enough to eat during a meal, my body goes into fight or flight mode, where my heart rate will go up, I start sweating more, and sometimes I start to feel dizzy. This is despite eating what many people would consider a “reasonable/typical” amount of food. If it’s not enough for my body, my body will let me know in the ways I’ve described. I used to restrict food a number of years ago (fully recovered now), and I think these symptoms started after my recovery.
Has anyone else had experiences of this? I am considering a glp1 at the moment, and I am wondering if it would help smooth out these signals such that they don’t feel like such an emergency. On the flip side, I am a bit worried that it might exacerbate some of these symptoms if I don’t eat enough on them.
Any advice or previous experience would be appreciated!
* I put the words normal and reasonable in quotation marks because I realize that there’s no such thing as normal for everyone and every body is different. It still felt appropriate to include, though, because it highlights how differently I react compared to others.
**I should also say that I have mentioned this to my doctor, and she didn’t really have any ideas.
