Happy Nagara Panchami : Let’s do some myth busting and learn about cool af snakes

There’s so much misinformation about snakes everywhere. It’s always “someone said this” or “someone said that.”

Snakes play a very important role in keeping ecosystems balanced. It’s not just cobras that are important. Every snake has its own role to play in the ecosystem and helps keep the food chain balanced.

It’s important for our generation to break that cycle, educate ourselves with proper information, and educate others too.And education should never feel forced…so iv kept it fun…relatable with memes and shi… So share this with your friends too

Please share this as much as possible and let’s learn actual facts instead of blindly believing everything we hear.

Happy Nagara Panchami!

July Field Notes - (read body)

  1. Ahh july was soo much fun…did two herping trails, one with people who are into wildlife..birding…nature and one with people who had no fckn idea about anything and were shit scared to walk in the dark but i convinced them it would be fun(it was). Both herp trips were soo different for me and i got to see and learn about so many different things.

2)DEATH

This was something i witnessed for the very first time…TS WAS FCKNN COOOL!! i just read about this multiple times…
So theres ts called… Entomopathogenic fungi…. basically ZOMBIE FUNGI….. Last of us type shi…..there are various species of them such as…Ophiocordyceps, cordyceps, beauveria and etc. Basically the spores are dispersed and the dispersed spores land on insects… when the temp / humidity is ideal they start to germinate. And then spores produce enzymes to break down the insects outer body and penetrate into and multiply. Some fungi does take over and do behavioural manipulation… it makes the infected bug climb on to the top of vegetation and grab on tightly as possible.. so that it has better chance of spore dispersal. And some fungi have really nice fruiting body which sometimes grows through the body on insects which is sad and cool as hell.

BIRTH
Just metres away we spotted this freshly emerged cicada. Cicadas usually spend 2-4years (depending on the species)of their larval stage underground sucking on the sap of tree roots. They moult quite a few time and when its time for the last moult… they come out hang on to sm and moult for one last time to become an Adult Winged Cicada which would prolly live only for like 2-4 weeks🥀

3)this one was the craziest encounter ever!!!! it was like the target species for the herp and we just joked around how crazy it would be to spot to see the target species for the first ever monsoon herp. We started herping around 10:30 pm… It was raining….. like RAINING!! it was soooo loud that we couldn’t even hear each other… and ideally for herping… it should be humid… like best time is just after rain… the it’s nearly impossible to spot anything in such heavy rain…. walked for 2 hours and NOTHING! not even a green vine snake! at some point i started to feel imma get my camera wet so ran towards the car and i kept my camera down.. i came back running back towards the trail and guess what….. THIS LIL GUY WAS SLOWLY SLITHERING ON THE TRAIL…. would have almost stepped on him ngl! so i shot few pictures on my friend’s iphone 16…

4)finally spotted my FAVOURITE SNAKE :) this was on the herp trail with my cousins (they have 0 idea about snakes … birds or pretty much anything else we were looking for) and … and… this was spotted by my cousin brother from the car…. while we were cruising at 30-40kmph…. Beginners luck he kehdee🗣️

  1. this was just bunch of spiderlings chilling… usually spiders lay eggs ranging from dozens to hundreds… sometimes near to thousand… it was really adorable to see these cutiess moving around

  2. this was one of the highlights of July ngl…. my brother said that there are no tarantulas in india…. I was like…. LEMME SHOW YOU SOME FCKN TARANTULAS!!! and spotted 2 of them… Lovely hairy creatures

  3. basically all the biodiversity i photographed but can’t identify them…. and it looks cool… wait i can id few
—bigg ass Moth… was almost the size of my palm
    —bottom right is Gasteracantha
—top left is sm kinda crab spider (Thomisidae)
—cool looking caterpillar and frog ( scientifically accurate)
    —and a mushroom… I love them fungiii

8)this was SO coool to witness!
i was doing my usual thing of checking stuff under leaves and shi to find spiders and saw this praying mantis. I thought its just a mantis chilling but nah…. she was kinda shaking her ahh and i realised she is literally producing froth foamy thingy. Later I read about it and thats called Ootheca and it hardens after a while to for protective case for its eggs

  1. pretty self explanatory…. plan was to cook maggi in the night but somehow we didn’t realise it was already 4pm and we hadnt even had lunch… so decided to cook maggie and it literally took an eternity to cook….so we skipped the plates part and dived right into the Paateeli while it was still cooking… the stove was ON😃👍🏽

  2. me

  3. soo… would you guys join to experience something like this?? does this fit your vibe?? no plans and shi…. just go with the flow and learn about nature

why was the the phrase “ಗಂಡು ಮೆಟ್ಟಿದ ನಾಡು” popularised for Hubballi? was there any historical “fighting/ rebellion spirit” here, apart for road rage?
