[PS2] [2000S] maybe anime styled mech rpg/maybe strategy game that had world war 2 vibes
SOLVED! It was Ring of Red
Hi y'all! I once rented this game for the PS2 and I didn't even get very far into it (this was the era when a memory card was too expensive for my family so I got very good at playing games from scratch and definitely didn't get constantly tilted from dying and having to start over again definitely not nope), but I remember it having mechs and the art style was generally anime inspired? I think?
One of the only things I do remember distinctly is you had to make your shots yourself. I vividly remember trying to shoot enemies while they approached, and the camera would switch to the sights of whatever weapon you were using and you had to try and lead the shots. Or at least I think you had to lead your shots. I remember feeling stupidly satisfied whenever I actually landed a shot. It was turned based too, I think, because I think you would get to control individual characters within the same battle? Honestly it may have been entirely real time, but child me was obsessed with anything turn based so I probably wouldn't have latched onto it as hard as I did.
I don't remember any significant names, character designs, or the cover art. For some reason I recall a triangle though?? Like maybe the logo was a triangle of some kind? Honestly I apologize for remembering so little about it. It's stuck with me for years and I've always wanted to play it again, see if it was actually good or if it just stuck in my craw because I was bad at it. Never got the chance to try it again though because it genuinely never showed up on that rental stores shelves again after I returned it from the weekend I had it.
I remember the setting being something my child brain immediately interpreted as a WW2 styled setting, but honestly it could have been anything with vaguely European stylings to its setting and the main conflict.
It wasn't Valkyria Chronicles, but I remember that game giving me the same vibes when I eventually played it years later.
Also if it helps any, I grew up in the UK, in case it ends up being some weird case where it wasn't released across all regions or maybe had a different name or whatnot.
