I'm so happy to finally share some actual game stuff with r/geometrydash! :) I was originally going to use GDevelop for this, but after trying it for a little while, it was too difficult. :(
So, I moved the whole project to Ren'Py! Y'know, the engine that powers games like: Doki Doki Literature Club, King of the Cul-De-Sac, Class of '09, Date Tidal Wave, and other popular visual novel games! :D
I want to talk a little bit about the main menu, what it has, and some of the design choices.
The player at the forefront of everything is YOU! You will be able to customize your player character as you see fit. :) (and no, unlike a certain game, you will have every color at your disposal...)
I plan such that as you progress through a character's route, they will appear in the main menu walking with you! :D
The background homes, cars, and even the lawnmowers all feature horns. It's just a part of the architectural culture in the Date A Demon universe! I plan for the 'Extras' button to be an area where you see artwork, replay minigames, and more (I do have a UNO with your friends minigame)! The 'Heart' button is actually the Credits button. I'll credit every sound, all the music, all of the icons I've used from people. EVERYTHING!
The yellow text is called a 'splash message', and it's randomly picked from a long list of splashes. I like to include GD references, but it can be anything I find funny or witty. My concept of the yellow splash messages originate from Minecraft, and is seen is Trigonometry Dash as well. :)
The people in the background mainly consist of some of my friends for now. I do want to add way more people's icons though! Other than that, there will be regular demons and difficulties as well in the background. You may also notice some community figures (DanZmeN & SwtCyn formerly DubstepFanatic) as well as Fluffy Demon! (Zeronium twitch emote)
The main menu's theme music is the instrumental to Ipace by inabakumori. It's a placeholder, because I have two awesome composers working on music for this! They're friends of my mine from Trigonometry Dash.
I'll post Concept Art pt. 3 sometime later today because there's a handful of artwork I haven't posted yet. I also want to make a Discord Server for those who are really enjoying this. But, I only want to do that once there's actually a game out. I want to have some sort of playable release by the start of May... (hopefully).
Can't believe this started as a half-April joke! :o I really hope you guys enjoy this half as much as I do making stuff for it. :)
