Situation with Lenovo; they're keeping my €170 Premium Care payment for almost a month. My PC has been broken for three months, and I still haven't received a solution from them.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to vent a bit because after this whole situation, I have every right to.

Please read carefully because I think this is an absolutely absurd situation. Get comfortable, because it’s going to be a long one and you’ll even get a few laughs out of it.

In 2024, I sent my IdeaPad to be repaired at their official service center for a minor issue with the internet card while it was still under legal warranty. Initially, everything seemed fine, but after a while, I started hearing some rattling noises coming from the laptop while using it. Not being an expert, I didn't think much of it and assumed it was just a normal noise. Starting from December 2025 / early 2026, the laptop began giving me trouble; it would freeze frequently while I was using it, and the only way to use it again was to force shut it down and turn it back on.

This situation went on until April 2026. One day, I was using the laptop for programming until—boom—it suddenly shut off completely and wouldn't turn on anymore. I discovered that not only was the ventilation grill forced and broken, but a fixing screw was missing from inside the laptop. But it doesn't end here. You might ask, "Well? How could a laptop die from just those two things?" My answer to you is that the missing screw was rolling around inside the laptop.

The dynamic was probably this: while I was using it, the screw shifted and caused a short circuit that led to the death of the laptop. This very same screw was likely responsible for the frequent freezes, perhaps causing frequent minor short circuits until the laptop simply couldn't take it anymore.

I bought this laptop for 1500 euros, an amount that is by no means cheap, a laptop that positioned itself in the "mid-high" category at the time. After laying out the backstory, we get to today. To show good faith, I paid 170 euros for Premium Care to resolve the issue quickly. (Mind you, originally I shouldn't have even paid that money because they caused the damage while it was under their responsibility. It's like going to a mechanic: he fixes the issue you brought it in for but creates an even bigger one, and you, to show good faith, pay an extra amount to speed up the process—MONEY YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY, BUT YOU CHOOSE TO DO SO). Well, the service I paid for was never granted to me, because after some time they called me to say that the warranty cannot be applied to damaged products, and they advised me to repair the laptop—WHICH THEY BROKE—at my own expense. So, they have kept my money to this day without giving me the service I paid for; this is called a breach of contract.

At the beginning, I told you there would be some laughs, right? Well, on May 8th, they called me saying that the warranty cannot be applied to damaged products and that they found no link between the current damage and their previous repair. Keep one thing in mind: ONLY THEY HAVE EVER OPENED THIS LAPTOP, AND AS PROOF OF THIS, THE FACTORY SEALS ARE COMPLETELY INTACT. I should also add that I sent them a video where you could hear a metallic noise inside the computer. Well, during the call, they actually told me that "this noise sounds like fan noise." Anyone who understands a little bit about computers will laugh here. Let me explain: if the computer is completely dead and unplugged, the laptop receives no power, and without power, the fans cannot move. Furthermore, I refuted their claims by saying, "If you are denying my warranty on a damaged product, but you are the only ones who have ever opened it (I repeat, the seals are intact), you are admitting that you broke it." Guys, they haven't replied to me since that email.

I opened a complaint on Altroconsumo to which, obviously, they still haven't responded. Ladies and gentlemen, I emphasize that Lenovo has been aware of my situation for almost a month. Do you know what that means? It means that for 2 years, I was carrying around a laptop that could have potentially caught fire (there is a metallic body inside conducting current) without my knowledge for—I REPEAT—2 YEARS. Tell me, if you were in my shoes, would you have as much patience as I do? Knowing that your safety was put at risk for 2 years, and your device for work, study, and entertainment was rendered unusable by them, and they continue to show no signs of life? P.S. I have photographic proof of the missing screw, the forced grill, and the video audio of the noise. I sent them all to Lenovo and, guess what? No solution for me.

Now, this is the part where I ask you, fellow users, if the compensation I requested is fair;

Let's start with the laptop I had. I had an IdeaPad bought at the end of 2023 / beginning of 2024 for 1500 euros with these specs: RTX 3060, Intel Core i7, 16 GB of RAM, half a tera of storage, 165 Hz screen. It wasn't the best computer in the world even back then, but it did its job perfectly. The compensation I demanded is a last-generation Legion 7i Pro or a last-generation 9i. I will not go below the 7i.

WARNING, WARNING; I know very well that this is an ambitious request, BUT I invite you to look at the facts with me:

  1. Work not done up to professional standards.

  2. Safety hazard.

  3. Bad faith regarding the 170 euros they are still keeping without giving me any solution.

  4. Omertous management and non-compliance: In the same email where I refuted their claims, I gave them an ultimatum which they ignored (it's worth noting that I don't care about their internal timelines; even though I understand that authorizing a swap like this takes time, I really don't think it should take almost a month).

  5. Damages from downtime and financial losses.

  6. Lost data, unrecoverable at this point.

  7. Extra costs for the Altroconsumo subscription.

  8. Extra costs for work, because I also used the laptop for jobs that I am now forced to outsource and pay other people to do.

In light of these facts, I ask you to tell me your opinion on the full story, what you would have done, and whether the compensation is fair or not.

P.S. Sorry for the long message, but I wanted to explain everything thoroughly.
