"Mothers who kill their children: justifiable, but fathers who kill their children: monsters"

I hate this double standard of "mothers who kill their children, it's the man's (husband's) fault"!!!

Predator sentenced to 28 months in prison | "For my son, a light has gone out," says the victim's mother (article only in French)

translation:

A woman who sexually assaulted a vulnerable 15-year-old boy she was secretly seeing was sentenced Friday to approximately two years in prison. The predator, Mélanie Desaulniers, caused years of suffering to the victim, lamented the boy's mother.

“My son was a bright, engaged teenager, without academic difficulties, involved in his community. […] For my son, a light has gone out and will never shine like it did before,” the victim’s mother testified emotionally on Friday afternoon at the Montreal courthouse.

In a powerful testimony, the victim's mother told the court about the "concrete and lasting" consequences suffered by her son and his loved ones as a result of the attacks perpetrated by Mélanie Desaulniers.

"Anguish, fear, silence, shame carried for too long by a child. Lies. Isolation. Sleepless nights. [...] A weakened family. Broken reference points. A lost balance. Worries for the future. Collateral damage. Loss of confidence," the mother listed.

In the dock, Mélanie Desaulniers declined to testify. According to her lawyer, however, the offender expressed "sincere remorse."

The 47-year-old woman pleaded guilty in late December to charges of sexual contact with a minor, sexual assault, luring, transmission of child pornography, and drug trafficking. A court order protects the victim's identity, so we are omitting certain details of the case.

She pretends to be the teenager's girlfriend

For months,

Mélanie Desaulniers maintained a secret relationship with this 15-year-old boy. She initially gave him cocaine. Then gifts, such as shoes and clothes.

When the teenager ended up in a youth detention center, the delinquent managed to pass herself off as his girlfriend. She would then pick him up several times a week, without the boy's parents knowing.

According to the factual account presented in court, Mélanie Desaulniers kissed the victim on several occasions. She touched his penis through his clothes and took his hand so that he would touch her intimately.

Mélanie Desaulniers put her fantasies about the teenager into explicit letters. These writings were discovered by the boy's mother under her son's pillow.

A judge then ordered the offender to have no contact with the victim. But Mélanie Desaulniers ignored the order: she accompanied the teenager back to the youth center as soon as he left the courthouse.

The 28-month prison sentence imposed by Judge Lucie Joncas stemmed from a joint recommendation by the lawyers. Crown prosecutor Gabrielle Deslisle emphasized the offender's guilty plea, a "very important" mitigating factor, since the victim did not have to testify. Furthermore, an expert deemed the risk of reoffending low.

Among the aggravating factors, the Crown highlighted the relationship of trust between the victim and the offender and the duration of the events (approximately one year).

The defense argued that the offender had been abstinent since 2024 and had participated in several programs while incarcerated. Furthermore, according to a report, the offender does not suffer from any paraphilic disorder. "The actions appear to be contextual," concluded an expert, according to Ms. Stéphanie Gariépy.

Judge Joncas mentioned that Mélanie Desaulniers “was arrested in Ontario for something else.” She is “presumed innocent at this stage,” replied Mr. Gariépy . La Presse, however, was unable to find any public information on this matter in Ontario records.

Since Mélanie Desaulniers has been in pretrial detention for several months, she has approximately a year and a half left to serve. She will have to comply with numerous conditions upon her release.
