Hey all,

I'm shopping for a used F-150 as a family vehicle, budget capped around $15K. My target spec:

  • Engine: open to either the 2.7L EcoBoost or 5.0L V8
  • 4WD
  • XLT trim or higher
  • 2015 or newer
  • SuperCrew cab (need the rear seat space)

I know at this budget I'll likely be looking at higher mileage — I'm fine with that as long as the truck's mechanically sound and has a reasonable maintenance history.

I just found a specific listing that's a bit over budget and want a reality check before I go further:

2020 F-150 XLT SuperCrew, 5.0 V8, 4WD, leveling kit w/ 35" tires — 170.000 miles — $16,877

Seller is a licensed dealer (verified profile, established reviews), seems reputable. But when I asked some follow-up questions, they told me: no service records available, don't know if an alignment was done after the leveling kit install, and the truck was bought at auction (so no history before that).

A few questions for the group:

  1. Is my target spec (2.7 or 5.0, AWD, XLT+, 2015+) realistic at $15K, or am I being unrealistic about what that budget gets me?
  2. For this specific 2020 truck, does "bought at auction, no service records" plus 170K miles at this price sound like a reasonable risk, or a pass?
  3. Anything else I should be pushing this dealer on before considering a PPI?

Appreciate any input, trying to make sure I'm not missing something obvious (or being too picky) before I commit to anything.

Edit: I am in North Carolina
