subject line: IDEM ID Number: SRIP01408 : GOOGLE DATA CENTER AND PROTECTED WETLANDS
email body- To Whom it May Concern,
My name is —- and I live in Fort Wayne . My zip code is 46—.
I am reaching out regarding IDEM ID Number: SRIP01408 ,Hatchworks LLC (Google Data Center) application for a State Isolated Wetland Individual Permit for Phase 2 of the Data Center project. The proposal states Google ( a company worth 4 trillion, yes TRILLION dollars) will be paving over: Six Class II isolated forested wetlands and one Class I isolated non-forested wetland, totaling around 2.5 acres of protected land. According to the proposal, Google would purchase “wetland credits” to make up for the wetlands lost.
As a voting, working, tax paying citizen of the city of Fort Wayne, I am formally requesting that the Indiana Department of Environmental Management deny Google’s permit to continue to destroy existing protected wetlands. The best time to stop environmental damage was prior to construction. The second best time is now.
IDEM needs to take the appropriate steps to protect the citizens of Indiana from additional environmental impacts. In the last week, much of Indiana has been struggling with flooding. It is unacceptable to take these kinds of environmental risks. Under Indiana’s Clean Water Act, Google is supposed to prove that there are no feasible alternatives. Yet there has not been a published environmental impact study that would indicate this. There has not been sufficient scientific review to show that the wetland credits they are supposed to purchase would be a safe alternative to existing wetlands.
IDEM’s job is to prevent Indiana’s citizens from being taken advantage of in such situations. Please do it.
Sincerely,
