Where do I meet other hobbyists/nature-oriented folks?
MINI-RANT ahead:
My family’s lived here for the past decade, meanwhile I’m midwestern through and through. I’m likely moving here for graduate school but I’ve had a tough time meeting anyone.
Ain’t ever met ruder people in my life. Held the door at the post office, no thank yous and all side eyes. Watched someone fall on the ground. No one rushed to help.
Somebody runs into you? Don’t expect no “sorry’s” or even a “my fault”. Crossing the street (legally) at least 2 people tried running me over during my right of way. If you make any small talk at the local HEB, people will stare at you like you grown a second head.
I’m not sure what’s up with that, or why it’s such a culture shock coming from a smaller city (1mil~) where folks say “sorry” like they owe it rent. I always try and give a city the benefit of the doubt, but it’s been almost a decade now and no dice on seeing any differences.
Anyways, how do I go about meeting more kinder folks? Ideally, folks who are into nature, hiking, and the like?
