Houston-area foster desperately needed for poor Brick

🚨 BRICK NEEDS A FOSTER. HE IS NOT DOING WELL AT THE RESCUE. 🚨

Brick had a foster. He had a home, a person and a routine. Then that foster commitment ended, and Brick was brought back to the rescue.

He has absolutely no idea what he did wrong.

He is miserable. He is depressed. And he is not doing well here.

What makes this especially heartbreaking is everything Brick has already survived. He came to us in horrible physical condition, with BBs lodged in his body after someone had used him for target practice.

Humans have failed this dog over and over again.

And now, he has been failed again.

Brick doesn’t understand foster commitments or why the person he trusted disappeared. He only knows that he had a home — and now he doesn’t.

We need a committed Houston-area foster for Brick. Someone who understands that fostering means being there for him until we can get him to the next chapter of his life.

Please help us get Brick back into a home.

If you can’t foster, PLEASE SHARE. He needs someone to see him.

Link to foster application can be found on this page:

I [28M] am moving to Houston soon. Would love to hear some thoughts on potential neighborhoods to live in.

Just accepted a new job in the medical center and I'm super excited to be moving back to TX! I grew up in Dallas, so I'm not too familiar with the Houston area. I've been looking at apartments for the past week and a pattern I've been noticing across town is frequent theft or run down properties...

As a single dude living in the city myself, I know these things are unavoidable. BUT I would still like to live somewhere relatively safe. From what I've gathered, Katy, Cypress, and Sugarland seem alright, but I've also been looking south towards Pearland. Whether its the culture, diversity, traffic, or whatever, I would love to hear your thoughts on these areas. Thank you!

Job searching

Hi! So I currently moved to Houston about a month ago and been looking for a job since I got here. I've applied to every restaurant I can find near my area and some have rejected me right away and others I haven't even heard from. I got an interview at Chick-fil-A but it's been a week and I haven't heard anything yet. I do have experience so I don't think that's a problem but I can't seem to find a job. Any ideas on where else I can apply? Thanks in advance!

Houston businesses that support local schools?

Does anyone know of local Houston businesses or organizations that are good about supporting schools or community programs? I work with students experiencing housing instability, and we currently have a few kids who urgently need basics like a week’s worth of clothes and toiletries. I’ve reached out to a few larger/name-brand stores but haven’t had much luck, so I’m hoping someone here might know of smaller local businesses or organizations I could contact. Thanks!

good restaurant bar in Katy

preferably around the 77494 area.

Somewhere with good food, a fun atmosphere, and a social vibe where it wouldn’t feel weird going alone and maybe meet new people.

Any recommendations for places that get lively in the evenings or on weekends?

dating in this town feels like a waste of time

I know I’m not the only one who feels this way I just want to b***h either the chemistry is there instantly and it fades out and the men stop trying, or it’s just not there at all.. Way to find a replacement tenant in houston?

Hey y'all! Something came up and I need to break my lease, but the only way I can do that without destroying my credit is if I find someone to start a new lease. I've been looking on facebook and nextdoor, craigslist as well, but no luck.

Why do so many people want to move to Sugarland, Missouri City, Sienna , and Iowa Colony suburbs when they are packed with large families and senior citizens?

I forgot to mention PEARLAND! I’m a single person living out there before they built houses everywhere and that’s areas are over crowded with large families and senior citizens. You can tell when you go to Target and Home Depot.

Does anyone have experience with SUNRUN in the Houston area? A door-to-door sales guy has been after me to get a Solar power unit installed at my place. I usually don't engage with door-to-door salespeople, but it was one of those days where I ended up talking to this guy.

I will very likely say no to him, but curious to know if anyone here as a SUNRUN experience to share.

Looking to move closer to the city…

OK don’t execute me, I know how unrealistic this is going to sound and I know I will have to go visit these areas myself but this is what I’m looking for:

For now just an apartment since I find know if I’ll stay in Houston and even if I do, where I’ll be staying. I can do up to 2k per month although I don’t think I’ll be wanting to spend that. It’ll be just me so just a 1 bed, 1 bath will do. Not interested in studios. I would prefer a place where I can have a small work desk station but I can squeeze it in my bedroom if not. Must have washer and dryer in unit, ac and preferably a covered garage but I guess any reserved parking will do.

OK now here’s the tricky part for me - I want to live in an area that is fairly walkable but also has decent traffic so I can enjoy driving. Yes I know this is Houston lol. I work from home so not concerned about commute or going out during the peak traffic hours but I plan on doing more social events and volunteering so I will need to get out probably after 6:30pm so the less congestion in the area the better. It also means the roads must be well maintained, as I drive a car low to the ground and care about my car (big fan of night drives). This is key for me and I’d really like this balance. With all this being said, I need to be around 20-25 min from downtown at most. I also don’t want to be around a bunch of families which is the current case here in Katy. I want to be around other single, young folks.

I did some preliminary research using Google’s AI, don’t kill me but these are the neighborhoods it recommended:

ITL:

  1. Washington Corridor
  2. Upper Kirby
  3. The Museum District

OTL:

  1. Memorial city
  2. Sugar Land Town Square

So I need additional recommendations, advice, shared experiences, warnings and whatever else you can give me. I’m looking to move early next year and will start my searches very soon. Thanks

Any 21+ recommendations before my wife has a baby?

My wife and I just moved to the montrose area and are expecting a baby in December. What are some 21+ or non-baby friendly places we should check out before the little one is here?

Open to any recommendations but interested to hear some non-bar ones too. Definitely interested in music venues, restaurants, cocktail bars, or any place you think we should visit.

Greener areas to move to?

I’m planning on moving to Houston/the United States within the next few years and I need tips on which areas to move to. I know that you wanna say “pick a different city” but I wanna live in Houston and I need tips on the greenest and most walkable area to move to. Doesn’t have to be like upstate New York green or something but I’m willing to splurge on rent If it means driving less. At least slightly less.
(Plus it’s the only city I have even a slight shot at affording)
