Brixies Rescue has taken many dogs from BARC including moms with puppies.
They are running low on food and are asking for food donations via their Amazon wishlist.
Times are hard for everyone, and we absolutely understand that not everyone is in a position to donate to rescues, but if your budget allows for an extra bag of dog or cat food for rescue pets, we will most appreciate if you can donate to them.

🚨 BRICK NEEDS A FOSTER. HE IS NOT DOING WELL AT THE RESCUE. 🚨
Brick had a foster. He had a home, a person and a routine. Then that foster commitment ended, and Brick was brought back to the rescue.
He has absolutely no idea what he did wrong.
He is miserable. He is depressed. And he is not doing well here.
What makes this especially heartbreaking is everything Brick has already survived. He came to us in horrible physical condition, with BBs lodged in his body after someone had used him for target practice.
Humans have failed this dog over and over again.
And now, he has been failed again.
Brick doesn’t understand foster commitments or why the person he trusted disappeared. He only knows that he had a home — and now he doesn’t.
We need a committed Houston-area foster for Brick. Someone who understands that fostering means being there for him until we can get him to the next chapter of his life.
Please help us get Brick back into a home.
If you can’t foster, PLEASE SHARE. He needs someone to see him.
Link to foster application can be found on this page:
After 8 YEARS with her family, 8-year-old Lucy is now sitting in a kennel at Downey ACC.
Lucy was surrendered on 7/6/26 following a scuffle with a small dog in the home. Lucy now has a No small Dogs requirement.
But there is so much more to Lucy than that one piece of her history.
She lived with children ages 11–13 and was playful. She rides well in the car. She walks politely on leash. She knows sit and paw. Her favorite thing to play with? A BALL. 🎾
And shelter staff saw another side of her, too.
During her assessment, Lucy was nervous and somewhat concerned with handling—but once it was over, her entire posture softened. She sought engagement with the handler and even offered play bows.
And on 8/11, Lucy participated in playgroup. She was described as social and non-reactive, exchanged appropriate greetings with other dogs, played with them, and solicited affection from the handlers.
She is large-dog friendly, but needs a home without small dogs. Adults only or older children are recommended. Slow introductions and confidence-building would help her settle in and feel secure.
Lucy is 8 years old.
She spent eight years belonging to someone.
Now she’s waiting behind a kennel door, hoping someone will believe that her story isn’t over.
Please don’t let one incident become the only thing anyone sees when they look at Lucy.

📝 Shelter Notes:
8/14/26: Frasier was found as one of six loose dogs at Coolwood Head Start.
💖 Frasier is just an 11-week-old baby who has already had a difficult start to life. At only 11 pounds, he arrived at the shelter with an older fracture to his front right leg that has been healing crooked. Despite his injury, the shelter notes that he can be adopted as he is, with further veterinary care pursued later if needed. This little puppy deserves the chance to grow up in a safe, loving home instead of losing his life at the shelter.
🩺 Medical Notes:
8/14/26: Front right leg appeared to have an older injury/break. Frasier was limping.
8/15/26: Frasier's front right leg appears to have an older injury/fracture with a large, hard callus just above the carpus. He is limping. The fracture is healing but is crooked/deviated laterally. The shelter notes that his limp appears to be related more to the crooked healing than pain. He can be adopted in his current condition, with further veterinary care pursued later if desired.

🚨💔 URGENT — ZUMBA HAS NOWHERE TO GO THURSDAY 💔🚨
Please, someone help Zumba. He needs a safe place by Thursday. 🙏😭
Zumba has already been through so much in his short life. He barely escaped the shelter the day before he was scheduled to be euthanized. 💔 We thought he had finally gotten his second chance — a foster home, a couch to sleep on, people to love, and a chance to simply be a happy dog.
But now, through absolutely no fault of his own, Zumba is losing his home again. 😢
His fosters are moving and cannot take him with them.
And by Thursday, he may have nowhere to go.
The only option available right now is outdoor boarding in a small kennel in 90-degree heat. 😭 He would have very little human interaction and would essentially be back in a kennel, just like the shelter.
After everything he has already survived, we cannot let this be his fate. 💔
Please look at this boy. He is only about 2 years old and 60 pounds, and he is an absolute sweetheart. He is potty trained, silly, affectionate, playful, and full of life. ❤️
🐾 Zumba LOVES people and wants to say hello to everyone.
🐾 He LOVES other dogs and wants every dog to be his playmate.
🐾 He LOVES playing in water.
🐾 He loves getting scratches, pets, and tummy rubs.
🐾 He loves cuddling on the couch.
🐾 He loves playing with his stuffies. 🧸
🐾 He is always ready for an adventure.
He even likes cats, although he can be a little overly enthusiastic, so introductions should be monitored.
Zumba has so much love left to give. He doesn’t understand why his life keeps changing. He doesn’t understand why the people he trusted can’t take him with them.
All he knows is that he finally found a home… and now he may lose it again. 💔
Please don’t let Zumba go from a loving home back to a lonely kennel in the heat.
He deserves a soft bed.
He deserves a couch.
He deserves someone to love him.
He deserves to finally feel safe. ❤️🩹
And the rescue desperately needs help. Outdoor boarding adds up incredibly quickly, taking resources away from other dogs who need saving. But more importantly, Zumba shouldn’t have to spend his days in a kennel when there could be a family out there waiting to love him.
🙏 PLEASE FOSTER ZUMBA.
Even a temporary foster can keep him safe while we find his forever home.
📱 TEXT 818-791-1607

⏰ HE NEEDS A PLACE BY THURSDAY.
Please share. Please tag someone. Please ask your friends.
Zumba already came within hours of losing his life. Please don’t let him lose his second chance at a life, too. 💔🐾
Hopefully best news first.

The profiles for the 8/18 list are already posted in r/findfostersfordogs. Please take a look and see if there isn't one that would be prefect for you or someone with whom you can share the post.

Don't forget the many wonderful dogs on the long-stay list: https://www.houstontx.gov/barc/barcdata/BARC_LOSV2.1.pdf This list is not as up to date as BARC implies. While it is updated every hour, a lot of dogs who are gone, one way or another, are still on there. If you do see a dog you are interested in, please DM lingeringneutrophil or BanditY77.
If those dogs are not on tomorrow's list, they soon will be.
