🆘 URGENT! GROOT NEEDS RESCUE PLACEMENT BY 6 AM SATURDAY 5/23 DUE TO MEDICAL🆘

💙 Groot (A590093) is a very sweet and friendly dog. He has been paired multiple times with other dogs at the shelter. Groot is a very happy dog and he is urgent because he has “happy tail syndrome”, which occurs when a dog wags their tail repeatedly against hard surfaces like walls. It is a painful but treatable tail injury that isn't healing well in the shelter. He needs a forever or foster home so he can heal comfortably outside the shelter. Please help Groot 🙏😥.

Meet Groot!

This handsome and friendly dog came into the shelter with "happy tail" syndrome and could benefit from finding placement. VEC placed a bandage but he is able to tuck the end of the tail into his E-collar and chew on it. There is no bone exposure, so we are trying to do our best to manage the wound for now.

Easily paired with other dogs. Friendly (although he resents restraint)

HW negative AND READY TO GO!

He is friendly with people but got into a scuffle with the one dog he was paired with, so he is in a kennel by himself. ‼️ Additional information: Boulder was paired for 5 days with this other dog (intact male) before they had a scuffle. Why did the shelter pair 2 intact males?? And why pair him when he is having back leg issues? After this, the shelter did not attempt to pair Boulder again due to his back leg issue and difficulty manuevering with it. He does not react to dogs in neighboring kennels.

Boulder is HW negative but came in limping and his left rear paw folds inward.  That leg requires amputation

Special notes:

-LH limb politeal lymph node enlargement

-LH MCS 1/3, ulcers on top of toes, worn nail, loss of conscious proprioception

-Crusting of skin

People will say they don't want to adopt a dog because of time. Because of their long work hours. Because they're barely home. Because they would feel bad leaving the dog home alone.
They don't realize that the dogs at our shelter spend most of their day alone. They get some yard time from volunteers or staff, and if they're lucky, they will get to interact with some adopters. The rest of their day is spent inside a kennel, looking out at the faces walking by, hoping to be noticed. Hoping to be seen. They would love to be in a home, on a cozy bed, surrounded by familiar and comforting smells, waiting patiently for their owner to return. For one of our dogs, even an hour of your time would be worth the wait.

Meet Maggie.

Maggie is a sweet two year old, originally from our friends at Seminole County Animal Services.
Every now and then, when dogs struggle and have long stays in the shelter, we will reach out and trade dogs with them. We'll give them one of our long timers, and they in turn will give us one of theirs. The hope is that the change of scenery and the change of community would make a difference for these dogs. And sometimes, it does.

But sadly, Maggie has been with us since January, when we took her in, with people showing very little interest in her.
And we just don't know why.

Maggie is energetic, affectionate and incredibly intelligent. Most of all, Maggie is just a lot of fun. When she's outside in the yards, she play vows and wants to be chased, She wants to run and jump. She wants to be close to her person, roll around on the grass and soak up the sun and the love. She is a stunning dog, extremely muscular, strong and agile. Maggie likes most dogs, and when she first arrived she was easy to pair. Recently though, she's wanted her own space.

Sadly, this means Maggie spends a lot of time by herself.
Not too many people ask to take her out, so our staft makes sure she gets attention and exercise. But Maggie needs something permanent. She needs a heart as big as hers to make her feel safe and loved.

💙 ELIO #A595513 - This dog is an unaltered male. This dog is currently located in CLIND22. This dog weighs approximately 14.0 lbs.,is 7Y and has tested negative for heartworm disease. This dog is being posted to rescue due to temperament.

Meet Elio!

*NEEDS RESCUE PLACEMENT BY 05/11/2026 @ 6AM

Elio arrived at the shelter as a stray on 05/06. He was severely matted and extremely fearful upon intake.

Due to the condition of his coat, he required sedation for grooming. Unfortunately, he has not yet tolerated handling and would benefit from rescue placement for continued care and support.

He suffers from severe dental disease, and his mouth is likely extremely painful, and this may contribute to his behavior.

Behavioral assessment notes:

“ABC 175 went to assess A595513. A595513 was laying in the kennel and when handler approached, A595513 showed teeth. 175 knelt down and A595513 charged the kennel door with force, attempting to bite. 175 opened the kennel door to attempt to leash A595513, who continued to snarl and snap. 175 was able to get leash on and then A595513 calmed down but put the brakes on. A595513 eventually came out of the kennel with tail tucked. In yard, A595513 explored independently, but would swivel to snarl and snap at handler at random moments (when wind would pick up or leash touched A595513). 175 knelt down and attempted to gently talk to A595513 and pet A595513. 175 was able to pet A595513, but A595513 low growled, showed teeth, and then attempted to bite. A595513 would not allow handling. 175 used figure 8 method to place A595513 back into kennel.

Meet Groot!

This handsome and friendly dog came into the shelter with "happy tail" syndrome and could benefit from finding placement. VEC placed a bandage but he is able to tuck the end of the tail into his E-collar and chew on it. There is no bone exposure, so we are trying to do our best to manage the wound for now.

Easily paired with other dogs. Friendly (although he resents restraint)
