💗 MAGDA'S SHELTER NOTES

Magda's earlier shelter observations were encouraging:

🐾 She greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a neutral body.

🐾 She was easy to leash and repeatedly walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.

🐾 Staff noted a wagging tail during multiple interactions.

However, on October 5, her behavior changed significantly in the stressful shelter environment. She began forward lunging and jumping against her kennel door while barking at passing dogs and showing her teeth. Covering the kennel did not help her settle, and similar behavior was still noted on October 7.

This behavior appears to be particularly associated with the kennel environment and passing dogs. A calm foster environment with appropriate management could give her the opportunity to decompress and allow her behavior to be evaluated outside the shelter setting.

🏥 MEDICAL

- Heartworm negative! ❤️

- Dermatitis related to flea allergy dermatitis (FAD); Advantage was applied at intake.

- Hair loss was noted on her back end and feet.

- On October 6, she developed coughing and yellow nasal discharge. The shelter suspected canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD), moved her to the treatment room, and prescribed doxycycline for 10 days.

A foster should be prepared to follow veterinary instructions and appropriate precautions while she recovers.

💔 Aerith is terrified. Her shelter notes describe a very timid mama who pants in her kennel, is extremely hesitant to walk on leash and becomes flighty.

When she first arrived on 10/2 as a stray with her puppies, she became so frightened when staff approached that she thrashed and chewed at the restraint equipment and got loose. Staff had to use a catch pole to safely guide her into a kennel. Once inside, they were able to vaccinate her and take her picture with light muzzling.

On 10/6, she was still described as very timid, panting in her kennel and extremely hesitant to walk on leash.

This scared mama is trying to cope with an overwhelming shelter environment while also caring for eight tiny babies who are only about 3 weeks old. She is also heartworm high positive and will need treatment.

9/29/2026: Approaching kennel, dog is lo growling with tense face and curling lip as I attempt to leash. Once she was, she ca,me out and scurried out with low hanging tail and worried facial expression. Once retrieving from run, dog held a much loose body and swaying tail.

9/30/2026: Dog was at the front of the kennel wagging tail, soft face and loose body. As I leashed she walked out of the kennel and followed me out to the runs holding a semi-loose leash, wagging tail and soft face. Walked to and from the runs no issues

10/2/2026: Zinnia walks on a semi-tight leash and shows no interest in treats. While in the kennel, Zinnia will sometimes growl and lunge at the front of the kennel when walking past kennel with and/or without a dog.

10/4/2026: Zinnia was standing in front of the kennel gate with a wiggling body, ears up, fast wagging tail, and dilated eyes. She was walked on a semi-loose leash and friendly to and from the outside runs. Once back in her kennel, when she saw a customer peaking over her sheet she would vocalize towards them until they left her sight. Later in the afternoon, she did the same thing to me but once I opened the kennel and babytalk to her she was presented with a wiggling body and fast wagging tail.

Cora is FIV positive… Does that mean she doesn't deserve to live? 💔

FIV does not mean Cora cannot have a happy, loving life. FIV-positive cats can live for many years with proper care, good nutrition, veterinary checkups, and a safe indoor home. ❤️‍🩹

Cora has already been through more than any cat should. She was abandoned on a busy roadside, almost hit by a car, and even beaten when she tried to find safety. She was scared, vulnerable, and completely alone.

LILLY is the kind of Malinois who makes you wonder how she is still here. Her volunteer called her “such a doll” — calm, easygoing, loving and an absolute pleasure to spend time with. 💕

And now LILLY is alone. 💔 The friend you’ll see with her in the video has already LEFT with an adopter. We’re thrilled one of them made it out, but LILLY is still waiting — and tomorrow morning could be too late for someone to finally choose HER.

💛 LILLY did well on leash, happily sniffing her way around the grounds before gently exploring the play yard at her own pace. Just a lovely, calm girl taking everything in.

Once comfortable, she kept coming back for HEAD RUBS AND BELLY RUBS. 🥹 She happily accepted treats and clearly loved simply being with her person. Her volunteer thought she would make a wonderful companion — and it’s easy to see why.

LILLY is only 3 years old, 53 lbs and HEARTWORM NEGATIVE. She’s young, beautiful, affectionate and remarkably easygoing. She deserves to follow her friend out that front door.

⋆✨️⋆ FRIENDLY - GOOD WITH DOGS. Maxamus came into the shelter with a female dog named Xena. Xena was adopted today, but Maxamus is still here — and now his time is running out.

Maxamus is presumed deaf. Shelter staff noted that he does not respond to sound, head turns, or ear movement, although a BAER test would be needed to fully confirm hearing loss. He is also being treated for an upper respiratory infection after developing sneezing and green nasal discharge. Despite this, he is still eating and drinking normally, has successfully been kenneled with another male dog, and has been friendly with staff.

SICK W/ URI - It’s concerning that so many large-breed dogs are being labeled as sick or aggressive‼️

⋆✨️⋆ Notes: Calvin has dental cavity that cannot currently be fully examined because he is in so much pain. He is also underweight and has an abnormal gait. The shelter is feeding him wet food and monitoring his weight to track his progress.

Despite everything he is going through, Calvin was the sweetest boy during his visit. His tail never stopped wagging, his demeanor was calm, and his eyes seemed to be asking for someone to finally love him and care for him.

Calvin appears to have been neglected and deserves so much more than what he has experienced.

💙 Say hello to Peanut Butter (A603633) who is the biggest sweetheart and a super friendly guy. He is easy to leash, allows full handling, is affectionate and gets along with all people and all other dogs. Peanut is 4 years old and 60 lbs.  This poor boy has a deadline of 5 pm Thursday, October 1st because he has a wound in his left thigh/hip area and cannot be treated at the shelter.  He needs to see a full-service vet to get the help he needs.  Please consider opening your heart and home for this sweet boy.  He is a perfect gentleman and is available for adoption (or can also be fostered through a rescue).

💙 This is Thor (A605888). He is 9 years old and 50 lbs.  He is a beautiful sweet and friendly guy that has a deadline of 5 pm Thursday, October 1st. While he was being neutered a mass was discoveredon his lower abdomen.  Thor needs to see a full-service vet to get the help he needs. He is friendly, walks well on a leash and is currently sharing kennel 25 with Akeno (neutered male dog). This gentleman deserves to get love and help. Hoping someone is able to give this sweetheart a wonderful home.  He is available for adoption but can also be fostered through a rescue.

💙 Sweet Jimmy (A604135) is 6 years old and 75 lbs.  Jimmy is wonderful and kind, he allows full handling and seems to be house trained.  Poor Jimmy suffers from chronic allergies and cannot be treated at the shelter.  Sadly, Jimmy has a deadline of 6 am Sunday, October 4th because of his allergies (unimaginable). Jimmy has not been paired at the shelter but will be able to live with canine siblings with separation, slow, appropriate and supervised introductions. Please give Jimmy the happy ending he deserves by adopting or fostering him for a rescue.

💙 Meet precious Dozer (A544391) who has been in the shelter for far too long and now has a deadline of 6 am Sunday, October 4th.  Dozer is 5 years old and weighs 57 lbs.  He is easily handled, very friendly and affectionate and easily paired (he is currently sharing kennel 12 with Miss Ruby, a spayed female).   He has a bit of skin allergies but certainly does not deserve to be euthanized for that.  Dozer deserves a family to love him — and some canine siblings!  Please consider adopting or fostering Dozer for a rescue.  He will be an added delight to any family!
