💔 Aerith is terrified. Her shelter notes describe a very timid mama who pants in her kennel, is extremely hesitant to walk on leash and becomes flighty.

When she first arrived on 10/2 as a stray with her puppies, she became so frightened when staff approached that she thrashed and chewed at the restraint equipment and got loose. Staff had to use a catch pole to safely guide her into a kennel. Once inside, they were able to vaccinate her and take her picture with light muzzling.

On 10/6, she was still described as very timid, panting in her kennel and extremely hesitant to walk on leash.

This scared mama is trying to cope with an overwhelming shelter environment while also caring for eight tiny babies who are only about 3 weeks old. She is also heartworm high positive and will need treatment.

💖 Vinny has some of the most encouraging shelter notes.

On 9/17, Vinny was standing at the front of his kennel with a loose, relaxed body and high-wagging tail. Staff specifically noted that he walks well on a loose leash.

There are no concerning behavior notes documented in his record.

Medically, Vinny's exam was documented as normal. He is heartworm negative. He was treated for tapeworms with praziquantel, and on 9/27 he was diagnosed with CIRD/URI after sneezing and developing a honking cough. He was moved to the treatment room and prescribed doxycycline for 10 days.

💔 This is a dog who has already shown staff that he can be relaxed, friendly and easy to walk — yet he is still facing euthanasia.

He needs a safe place to recover, decompress and finally get the chance to be more than a kennel number.

Magda's earlier shelter observations were encouraging:

🐾 She greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a neutral body.

🐾 She was easy to leash and repeatedly walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.

🐾 Staff noted a wagging tail during multiple interactions.

However, on October 5, her behavior changed significantly in the stressful shelter environment. She began forward lunging and jumping against her kennel door while barking at passing dogs and showing her teeth. Covering the kennel did not help her settle, and similar behavior was still noted on October 7.

This behavior appears to be particularly associated with the kennel environment and passing dogs. A calm foster environment with appropriate management could give her the opportunity to decompress and allow her behavior to be evaluated outside the shelter setting.

🏥 MEDICAL

- Heartworm negative! ❤️

- Dermatitis related to flea allergy dermatitis (FAD); Advantage was applied at intake.

- Hair loss was noted on her back end and feet.

- On October 6, she developed coughing and yellow nasal discharge. The shelter suspected canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD), moved her to the treatment room, and prescribed doxycycline for 10 days.

A foster should be prepared to follow veterinary instructions and appropriate precautions while she recovers.

💔 Lola is a young, sensitive girl who appears frightened and overwhelmed by the shelter environment, but her shelter notes show that she has been making encouraging progress.

On 9/10, she was pacing, panting, flinching and walking with a crouched body and tucked tail. Even while frightened, she allowed staff to leash her, walked out of her kennel on a loose leash and slowly relaxed once outside.

By 9/17, she was greeting staff at her kennel door with a relaxed body and slow, low tail wag. She walked on a loose leash and allowed staff to handle her. She may still flinch when people move quickly, but she has already shown that she can begin to trust and settle when given gentle handling.

Lola is also being treated for CIRD (canine infectious respiratory disease). On 10/2 she was still showing URI symptoms and was prescribed an additional 5 days of doxycycline.

💖 Stone's shelter notes are truly impressive.

On 9/26, staff described Stone as very sweet. He was quiet in his kennel, kept it clean throughout the day, leashed well and walked on a loose leash to and from the runs. He knows “sit” and “paw,” takes treats gently and leaned into pets.

On 9/17 and 9/19, he was calm, quiet and walked on a loose leash. On 10/3, he greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a loose body, low-wagging tail and soft, closed mouth. On 10/5, he was quietly sitting at the kennel door with a relaxed body and neutral expression, walked on a loose leash and returned to his kennel without issue.

Stone did have a day of high-pitched barking on 9/30, but staff covered his kennel and he settled.

🩺 Medically, Stone is heartworm low positive and will need treatment. He also recently had CIRD/URI, but on 10/6 he completed 10 days of doxycycline with no clinical signs observed or recorded, and his URI was considered resolved. He was cleared to move out of the treatment kennel.

💔 Stone was surrendered into BARC and has spent his time there showing staff that he is calm, affectionate, gentle with treats, knows basic cues and walks nicely on leash.

He deserves the chance to leave the shelter and decompress in a home where he can finally relax.

💖 Trixie's earlier notes show a very different picture from the stressed dog seen more recently.

On 9/11, she was initially timid outside but eventually allowed staff to scratch her head and began slowly wagging her tail. She later walked on a loose leash to the runs and back. When another dog was nearby, she watched through the fence, and when staff called her, she came running over and entered her kennel without issue.

On 9/20, Trixie was described as shy but sweet, with a neutral body and low-wagging tail. She allowed staff to leash her and walked on a loose leash.

On 10/3, she was eager in the morning, standing near staff's feet and barking while presenting a loose body and wagging tail. After going outside, she returned to her kennel and settled calmly and quietly.

More recently, Trixie has become increasingly vocal and overstimulated. On 10/5, she was forward barking with a tense body and wide eyes, then bolted from her kennel when leashed. She walked to the runs on a semi-loose leash and later barked at passing dogs. After staff lowered her kennel bed, she settled down.

💔 This is a young dog who appears to be struggling with the stress of prolonged shelter confinement. Her earlier notes show that she can relax, accept affection, respond to people and walk nicely on leash. She needs a quieter environment where she can decompress without the constant stimulation of the shelter.

🩺 Trixie is heartworm negative and has been spayed. She is currently recovering from an upper respiratory infection; after completing her initial treatment, her doxycycline course was extended for another 5 days because she was still coughing and had nasal discharge.

Luke was reportedly found roaming and had reportedly been in a caller's yard for more than three weeks.

💙 LUKE'S PERSONALITY

Luke's shelter notes paint a picture of a gentle, affectionate dog who has become increasingly comfortable with staff.

🐾 He has greeted staff at his kennel with a relaxed body, soft open mouth, and slow, low wagging tail.

🐾 He has repeatedly walked on a loose leash.

🐾 Staff reported that he entered and exited his kennel without issues.

🐾 When passing his kennel, he has been observed quietly resting on his bed.

Luke did have an incident where he jumped out of a shorter outdoor run and was subsequently cornered by several people. At that time he displayed a low posture, tucked tail, and was panting. Staff subsequently used a leash-walk-only protocol and placed him in a taller run, where he did well and was not observed attempting to escape.

His later notes show relaxed body language and calm leash walks.

🏥 MEDICAL

- Heartworm: Low positive — veterinary follow-up and treatment will be needed.

- Vaccinated for Rabies, DA2PP-V, and Bordetella.

- Dewormed and given flea prevention.

- Weight documented as 60 lbs (an earlier entry lists 70 lbs).

A foster should be prepared to work with a veterinarian on his heartworm treatment and overall medical care.

10/4/2026: Bear was a move adopt to my section this morning. He addressed me at the potty yard with dilated eyes and waging tail. He let me leash him and walked Simi loosely to his new kennel. Inside his kennel he can be seen waiting by the kennel door quietly for interaction.

10/5/2026: Mr. Bear was at times vocal as i was taking other dogs out but for the most part he was calm and quite. He was easy to leash and wiggly body and happy tail. Walked on loose leash to and from runs.

10/6/2026: Approaching the kennel, Bear was very friendly towards me and was walked on a loose leash to his outside kennel. Later in the afternoon, he was walked by potential adopters and very friendly towards them during his walk.

10/3/2026 Euth Request | Staffordshire Mix | Female | 2 Years | 38.6 lbs | Heartworm Negative

💔 Mariah has been showing a lot of stress and uncertainty in her kennel, but her notes also show that she is capable of responding positively to gentle handling.

On 10/3, she was lunging at the front of the kennel and barking, with a tense body and other signs of stress during intake. She needed to be muzzled for her initial workup.

But over the following days, there were encouraging moments. On 10/4, she wagged her tail when the leash was presented, walked out and back on a loose leash, and began wagging when she recognized the staff member approaching her. On 10/5, she was initially growling and alarm barking, but became more neutral once she saw the leash. She was tense and flinched with sudden touch, but she stood still for head scratches, and staff were able to remove her leash while she was in the run and later back in her kennel.

Mariah may need patience, consistency and a calm environment while she adjusts. She has already shown that beneath the shelter stress, there is a dog who can begin to relax and accept gentle interaction.

💖 Ruth isn't flashy or exotic-looking, but she is a damn good dog.

A BARC volunteer who spent time with Ruth described her as a “plug & play” dog who has had only good notes after more than 3 weeks at the shelter. She was described as easy, relaxed and happy to simply hang out with people and dogs.

She auto-sits, doesn't cause a fuss, and was so easy to handle that the volunteer said she could imagine Ruth being a great dog to take along to a bar or even a gym. She was also comfortable when a puppy jumped all over her.

Ruth has repeatedly been described in the shelter notes as sweet, wiggly, relaxed, easy to leash and good on a loose leash. She has kept her kennel clean and has handled her time at BARC remarkably well.

🩺 Ruth is heartworm positive and will need treatment, but she is already spayed and needs someone willing to give her the chance she deserves outside the shelter.

💔 The heartbreaking part is that Ruth may simply be getting overlooked because she's a plain black dog. She doesn't need to be the most eye-catching dog in the kennel to be an incredible companion.

💔 Asher is only 6 months old and is extremely frightened in the shelter. His shelter notes say he growled when staff approached his kennel. Once leashed, he thrashed and bit at the leash, and this behavior remained the same on both 10/4 and 10/5.

He came into BARC as a stray on 10/3, after an intake report noted numerous dogs in the area chasing children going to school near an elementary school. We were not able to meet him ourselves, so we cannot say more about his personality than what is documented by the shelter.

What we do know is that this is a very young puppy in an extremely stressful environment, and he desperately needs an experienced, patient rescue and foster who can give him time to decompress, build trust and learn that people, handling and new situations can be safe.

9/29/2026: This dog greeted me at the kennel door with a fast wagging tail and wiggly body. He let me leash him and walked Simi loosely to and from the potty yard. Inside his kennel he can be seen waiting by the kennel door for interaction.

10/1/2026: Move adopt in the am, has been nonstop vocal in kennel since.

10/3/2026: Was a bit vocall in the am but once Volunteer rook out for a long walk, dog came back to kennel and was quiet and relaxed in kennel. Greets me loosely at the front of the kennel door with a waggy tail and soft open mouth.

10/4/2026: dog walked semi tight to the run and when i placed her in the run was vocal and when i brought her back she walked in and lay down.

10/5/2026: Stands at the front of the kennel door, wags her tail with a soft open mouth. Easy to leash and she walked out on a loose leash. In the runs she remained relaxed and walked back to kennel on a loose leash. Has been quiet and relaxed in kennel.

10/6/2026: Began to vocalize in the am. Once I leashed up and walked out dog walked on a loose leash and was wagging her tail with a soft open mouth. I offered her a larger kennel to see if it would help. She has been quiet and relaxed in her kennel.

Marky's shelter notes describe him as timid but friendly, with a wonderfully wiggly, bouncy personality.

🐾 He allowed staff to leash him and walked relatively loosely to and from the potty yard.

🐾 Staff described him as super wiggly and bouncy on walks.

🐾 In his kennel, he has been observed resting quietly on his blanket.

🏥 MEDICAL NOTES

Marky has some medical needs that a foster and rescue will need to help address:

Heartworm low positive: He will need veterinary follow-up and an appropriate treatment plan.

Respiratory symptoms: On October 6, he was documented as sneezing, honking, coughing, and having clear nasal discharge, with vomiting of clear phlegm.

Treatment: The shelter suspected canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD), moved him to the treatment room, and prescribed doxycycline for 10 days.

A foster should be prepared to follow veterinary instructions and appropriate precautions around other dogs while Marky's respiratory symptoms are assessed and treated.
