Al (Intact) was at the front of the kennel with a relaxed demeanor, wagging his tail softly. He became excited after the leash was presented and attempted to force his way out of the kennel. He settled with the use of a pet corrector tool, allowing himself to be leashed easily. (He was labeled overaroused for that).
When one of the female dogs invited him to play, Al began to perform play bows before joining her in chase play.

This led Al to join a group of playful dogs, keeping up pace with his friends.
For the remainder of the session, he maintained a social demeanor with everyone in the yard.
Handling: AL stood still with a relaxed pant and a neutral body, allowing his ears, mouth, tail, abdomen, and legs to be handled. However, Al became highly uncomfortable anytime his legs were touched. He relaxed once his legs were released.
They also labeled AL barrier reactive for barking at a dog in the neighboring kennel while he was being returned to his own kennel.

Remember sweet Brooke? This 3-year-old Dutch Shepherd mix was once sitting at BARC Houston, frightened and overwhelmed after recently giving birth. She was on the euthanasia list, and we were terrified she wouldn’t get the chance she deserved.
But Brooke was SAVED by Save Some Souls. 🥹🐾

• A1933798 Esther: Rescue Only, 6-year-old Labrador Retriever Mix who came in as an owner surrender and is HW positive (high). Noted to have mild right hindlimb lameness while walking, with a slight bunny hop. She has been sweet and greets staff with a gentle wagging tail! She was diagnosed with right hindlimb lameness. She has already escaped death at BARC 2 years ago to be returned two years later through no fault of her own. Rescue will cover expenses.
• A2089073 Judy: 6-year-old Staffy Mix who is a medium/large sized girl. She is HW+. Judy came to the shelter as a stray, but she’s a plump old girl with good teeth who knows how to sit, and keeps her kennel clean, looks to have known a home before. She’s always very well behaved in her kennel, always sleeping on her bed, and has the cutest tail wag!
• A2093230 Mack/Mick: 3-year-old Staffordshire Mix. Popular guy! He’s a very good boy, loads of fun! He is very people- and dog-friendly! He would make an excellent running or walking buddy. He loves to chase the ball; just a fun-loving dog. Medium-sized guy at 50.8lbs who is HW Low Positive.
• A2093865 Mickey: 2-year-old Staffie Mix. Loves human attention and being dressed up! Heartworm negative and not spayed yet. She would most likely need slow, intros or to be an only dog. She growls at male dogs when walking by kennels. She’s not spayed, so potentially making sure males stay away from her, but it’s hard to know in the shelter environment. She has great volunteer notes and has been described as super sweet.
• A2089651 Ryder: 2-year-old Staffordshire Mix who came in as a stray. Described as the best boy who is a fantastic listener. Great on a leash and highly treat-motivated! He's a healthy medium-sized man at 54.4lbs and is ready to go! He's HW- and already neutered.
• A2089676 Steve-O: 1-year-old Boxer Mix who is a staff favorite and has been described as a great listener who loves tricks and would do amazing with a backyard! He's very affectionate and loves giving kisses. He is a healthy boy who is heart-worm negative and ready to go!

Hi everyone, I am a volunteer networking shelter dogs, and I am begging for a soft place for a beautiful senior soul to land before it is too late. Olive's medical placement deadline was yesterday, September 5th at 2:00 PM, meaning she is at the absolute top of the final notice list.
Olive is a 10-year-old female white Siberian Husky (Animal ID: A597046) who currently weighs 52.6 lbs. She was brought into the shelter as a confiscate on August 21st in terrible physical shape. The veterinary evaluation details a heartbreaking level of neglect:
Severe Skin Distress: She has severe diffuse dermatitis, a very low body condition score, and widespread hair loss (alopecia). Her skin feels tough, hardened, and tacky due to a systemic issue or untreated flea allergy.
Painful Ear & Eye Conditions: Her ears are severely infected, yeast-filled, and bleeding along the tips. Her eyes have a thick green/gray purulent discharge and show signs of cataracts and a severe lack of natural tear production (KCS).
Stiff Gait: She walks with a slightly stiff gait consistent with severe arthritis.
Despite everything she has been through, shelter logs note that she is a very sweet geriatric patient who just wants to rest comfortably. She is currently on an aggressive daily regimen of oral antibiotics (Cephalexin), anti-inflammatories (Carprofen), ear drops, and complex twice-daily eye ointments (Optimmune and Neo/Poly/Hydrocortisone). The paperwork states clearly that "this animal requires medical care beyond what can be provided in a shelter environment." A loud, stressful kennel is no place for a sick 10-year-old senior to heal. She needs a quiet home with AC where she can finish her medications and know what a real family feels like.

Chaol is a gorgeous 2-year-old white and gray Siberian Husky (Animal ID: A597576) weighing 57.00 lbs. He arrived as a fearful stray on September 2nd with a notable injury to his left hind leg. Shelter veterinary logs show he is limping and only periodically toe-touching. He urgently requires advanced diagnostics, radiographs, and a potential splint to address suspected fractures or pelvic injuries. He also has some superficial trauma to his lips from a high-stress capture.
Because he needs a quiet, stress-free space to heal, the paperwork explicitly states he "requires medical care beyond what can be provided in a shelter environment." He is currently designated as RESCUE ONLY, meaning he cannot be directly adopted from the facility—he must be pulled by a 501(c)(3) rescue group. Hi everyone, I am a volunteer networking shelter dogs, and I am asking for an urgent rescue plan for an absolute gentleman. Hunter is a long-stay resident at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter and needs an immediate exit plan.
Hunter is a gorgeous 6-year-old Siberian Husky mix (Animal ID: A575106) weighing 71.80 lbs. He has been at the shelter since August 13th, when he was found as a stray.
His behavior notes are practically flawless: he is incredibly sweet, relaxed, well-mannered, and loves people, including children. He is completely housebroken, knows how to sit, walks beautifully on a leash, and does not bark at or react to other dogs.
Unfortunately, he has a very heavy, matted winter coat that makes the summer heat very difficult for him, and shelter medical records note a small, round cutaneous mass on his left cheek/skull that requires advanced veterinary follow-up outside the facility. He is an amazing dog who would fit perfectly into almost any home environment—he just needs a foster or a 501(c)(3) rescue backing to pull him.

Look I know you guys are tired of me saying “yoku this” or “yoku that” but the dude is on his 2nd extension at BARC and that HAS to mean something, right? I saw him for a THIRD time today to finally temp test him with another dog and this is the first time I saw a pep in his step. He got kisses from Judy through the fence and that was the first time I saw a real tail wag from him. Anyways this is just another post to bump him up because his people just havent seen him yet.

I saw Yoku in his kennel tucked into a blanky on Sunday and I didn’t want to disturb him, he looked like he hadn’t been that comfy for a long time. That video I took stuck with me, I thought about him every single day, I even asked (@woofgangv) to check on him to see if he was okay. Well today I went back and took him out, and quite frankly he would’ve rather I left him in the AC. You can tell Yoku has lived a hard life and he’s ready for the soft life. He gives big stray vibes, weary (but can be bribed), walks along the walls, ducks in the doorways, and is slightly head shy. I hope the shelter won’t be the last place he’s ever felt safe.

🐾 Behavior Notes:

Yoku is a gentle old soul. He is quiet, calm and relaxed. He spends much of his day cozied up on his bedding and blankets, but will slowly get up to greet staff with a wagging tail and soft face.

He is easy to leash and walks slowly on a loose leash, so staff simply follow his pace. Outside, he potties and then enjoys lounging around. He loves treats, sits patiently for them and takes them gently from your hand. Staff even noted that he keeps his kennel clean day and night and may already be potty trained.

One staff member has been giving Yoku an extra blanket to wrap up in, and he curls up and sleeps peacefully beneath it.

🙏 Yoku isn’t asking for much — a soft bed, warm blankets, treats and someone willing to walk at his pace.

Please foster, adopt, rescue or share him. Someone out there can change the rest of his life.

8/18/2026: Yoku is very quiet and relaxed in kennel. He is usually sleeping throughout the day. Cozied up on his blanket. When he gets up to greet me, he wags his tail as I offer him baby talk. Once leashed he walks out on a loose leash. He walks a bit slow so I follow at his pace. He may possibly be potty trained due to him keeping his kennel nice and clean throughout the day and overnight as well. Once he is back in his kennel he will go straight to his bedding and sit. I offer him treats on bedding and he eats them.

8/24/2026: Passing kennel, Yoku was quietly resting on his bed then got up to greet me with soft face and took a treat gently from my hand, staying neutral when pet. He was leashed easily and walked loosely and slowly.

8/25/2026: Yoku mostly sleeps on bedding throughout the day. He will slowly get up and walk to me as I leash, he walked out loosely to the runs. He does potty right away and then he is laying and lounging around outside. He loves treats, he will sit and wait for me to offer him some. Once he is back in kennel he is cuddled up on his bedding. I have been offering another blanket to wrap him with and he usually sleeps very well with it.

8/12/2026: Weighed 83.0 lbs. Diarrhea. Heartworm test: High Positive. Vaccinated with DA2PP-V, Bordetella and Rabies, dewormed, and given flea/heartworm prevention.
8/12/2026: Weighed 83.0 lbs. Normal. Shot back leg.
8/14/2026: Weighed 83.0 lbs. Diarrhea. Unable to obtain fecal due to behavior/sitting on stool sample. GI/stress related. Panacur and Metronidazole prescribed for 5 days.
8/25/2026: Weighed 83.0 lbs. Bilateral lower entropion of lateral aspect with mild mucoid discharge. Terramycin prescribed for both eyes for 10 days. Consider entropion repair with private vet.
8/25/2026: Mucoidal discharge from left eye along lower eyelid margin.

Summary:

Yoku also developed diarrhea and was treated with Panacurs diagnosed with bilateral lower entropion, meaning his lower eyelids roll inward. He has mild mucoid eye discharge and is being treated with Terramycin to both eyes twice daily for 10 days. Shelter medical staff recommend considering entropion repair with a private veterinarian.

Yoku also developed diarrhea and was treated with Panacur and Metronidazole for 5 days.

Volunteer 1: This boy had me cracking up. He’s so low to the ground, but wanted to be next to me on the bench so he found a way to wiggle up. In the kennel, he can be a little barky at the door. Lots of strange people walk by and it’s scary. I opened up the kennel door and this cutie was ready to go. He walks great on the leash and doesn’t make a sound outside of the kennel. This boy will give you all the kisses and be your best friend. Watch his videos throughout the comment

Volunteer 2: I am just now meeting Big Poppa, and unfortunately in a few hours he’ll be euthanized. He’s a low rider full of spunk. He came in with a female who was adopted but he’s still here and now in danger. He is a bit mouthy which a staff member had also noted so in my opinion he should be with small children until an adopter or foster has worked with him on that. He LOVES stuff. He dug through my backpack and took my make up bag lol and then found a tennis ball he didn’t want to let go. I think this guy just has lacked structure and needs someone who will get him into a routine and some activities where he can let out some of his energy! I think neutering him may help too.

🐾 Behavior Notes:

Big Bopper is a happy, high-energy boy who gets excited but is able to settle with handling.

He was easily leashed, walked outside on a semi-loose leash and returned to his kennel without difficulty.

He enjoys being out of his kennel and has shown he can walk appropriately with a handler. His excitement may be influenced by the stress of the shelter environment, and he would benefit from a calm setting and time to decompress.

🙏 Big Bopper came into BARC with Chantilly, who is now being adopted. He still urgently needs rescue placement.

He is healthy, heartworm negative and has demonstrated that he can walk nicely outside the kennel.

The dog is highly energetic and engaged with his surroundings, frequently vocalizing and panting. He displays bright, alert eyes and is eager to interact, often jumping up at the kennel door and pacing with enthusiasm. On leash, he moves forward readily and shows good motivation to explore. He is not currently interested in treats but remains engaged with his environment. During leashing and walks, he may mouth the leash, which appears to be an outlet for his excitement and energy.

Behavior Note:

overly aroused with constant vocalizing/screaming, constant panting, dilated eyes, jumping on kennel door and pacing, walks forward on the leash, ignores treats, mouthy towards leash when leashing and while walking

8/5/2026: Nugget was moved to south this morning. Nugget has been quietly laying in her kennel throughout the day.

8/8/2026: Approaching the kennel, Nugget was standing in front of the kennel with a neutral body and eyes, and low hanging tail. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. She was shy but friendly towards me and allowed me to pet her as I leashed her. Nugget was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs. Once back in her kennel, she laid down on her cot and slept for most of the morning and would occasionally greet customers that walk up to her gate.

7/30/2026: Weighed 82.6 lbs. Normal exam. Broken canine teeth and short tail with previous fracture noted. Long abdominal scar; unable to verify if spayed. Possible C-section scar. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, and given flea prevention. Heartworm test: Negative.

8/13/2026: Weighed 82.6 lbs. Normal exam. DA2PP-V given.

8/14/2026: Weighed 82.6 lbs. URI. Thick green nasal discharge and slightly lethargic. Kibble appeared untouched. Moved to treatment room and started Doxycycline 350 mg SID for 10 days.
