Houston-area foster desperately needed for poor Brick

Posted on Facebook by Sunnyside Street Dogs

https://www.facebook.com/share/1VCCJSAoCr/

🚨 BRICK NEEDS A FOSTER. HE IS NOT DOING WELL AT THE RESCUE. 🚨

Brick had a foster. He had a home, a person and a routine. Then that foster commitment ended, and Brick was brought back to the rescue.

He has absolutely no idea what he did wrong.

He is miserable. He is depressed. And he is not doing well here.

What makes this especially heartbreaking is everything Brick has already survived. He came to us in horrible physical condition, with BBs lodged in his body after someone had used him for target practice.

Humans have failed this dog over and over again.

And now, he has been failed again.

Brick doesn’t understand foster commitments or why the person he trusted disappeared. He only knows that he had a home — and now he doesn’t.

We need a committed Houston-area foster for Brick. Someone who understands that fostering means being there for him until we can get him to the next chapter of his life.

Please help us get Brick back into a home.

If you can’t foster, PLEASE SHARE. He needs someone to see him.

Link to foster application can be found on this page:

! URGENT EUTH LISTED - HOPPER'S dealine passed on 8/14 !! Tustin CA, 2 year old male needs a savior NOW!

His life is at risk. Hopper needs a rescue plan NOW or he may be euthanized by OC Animal Care.

Hopper is only 2 years old. He was found wandering the streets of Santa Ana. The person who found him had no issues capturing him and even spent a week walking him around the neighborhood, trying to find someone who knew him.

Then he arrived at the shelter.

Hopper was nervous during intake. When staff approached him with a leash, he growled and showed his teeth. Since then, shelter staff report that he comes to the kennel door, hard stares, shows whale eye, becomes stiff, and growls.

But there is an important detail in his notes:

"When you reach for him he does not try to bite, he is just stiff and growling."

We don't know what Hopper experienced before he was found. We don't know why a 2-year-old dog was wandering the streets wearing a choke chain and rope leash. We only know that someone was able to safely capture him and walk him around the neighborhood - and now, inside a frightening shelter environment, he is defensive and afraid.

And that fear may cost him his life.

Hopper currently has no owner coming for him and no safe home waiting for him. He needs an experienced person willing to stand up for him when he needs it most.

HOPPER NEEDS RESCUE BY 8/14/26.

Please SHARE, PLEDGE, and help find a rescue/foster who can safely take him.

🐾 Meet Nate

ID #A2088449

2-year-old male Labrador Retriever mix

Black / White | 46 lbs

Intake Date: 7/29/2026

Nate came into BARC as a stray after a caller reported a group of several dogs outside in the heat and was concerned for their health. Elmo (ID #A2088448) is still at BARC, but not on the euthanasia list yet. Sadly, Dallas (ID #2088462) was already euthanized. 2 of the other dogs are no longer listed and we don't know their status (ID #A2088446 and ID #A2088459).

🩺 MEDICAL

Nate is heartworm LOW POSITIVE and is now being treated for an upper respiratory infection/CIRD.

On 8/18, he was sneezing yellow discharge and was moved to the treatment room. He was started on Doxycycline 200 mg once daily for 10 days.

He has received his DA2PP vaccines, Bordetella, rabies vaccine, deworming, pyrantel and Advantage Multi.

🐾Behavior notes:

During many walks, Nate has shown a neutral or relaxed body, soft expression and loose-leash walking. He has also been observed quietly resting on his bed and ignoring barking dogs once given some space.

However, Nate can become tense around other dogs. On 8/17, he was whining and standing against his kennel door as other dogs were walked past, but once it was his turn, he became quiet and walked loosely beside his handler.

We were not able to meet Frasier #A2091306. If you're interested in helping us meet the animals, please message us!

📝 Shelter Notes:

8/14/26: Frasier was found as one of six loose dogs at Coolwood Head Start.

💖 Frasier is just an 11-week-old baby who has already had a difficult start to life. At only 11 pounds, he arrived at the shelter with an older fracture to his front right leg that has been healing crooked. Despite his injury, the shelter notes that he can be adopted as he is, with further veterinary care pursued later if needed. This little puppy deserves the chance to grow up in a safe, loving home instead of losing his life at the shelter.

🩺 Medical Notes:

8/14/26: Front right leg appeared to have an older injury/break. Frasier was limping.

8/15/26: Frasier's front right leg appears to have an older injury/fracture with a large, hard callus just above the carpus. He is limping. The fracture is healing but is crooked/deviated laterally. The shelter notes that his limp appears to be related more to the crooked healing than pain. He can be adopted in his current condition, with further veterinary care pursued later if desired.

🩷🐶 Jenna #A2088112

7/26/2026 Stray | American Staffordshire Mix | Female | 4Y | 46.4 lbs | HW Low Positive

💜 Volunteer Notes:

Jenna is definitely a cutie pie. She has unique coloring throughout her coat. She’s calm and sweet. When I went to her kennel she was so ready to have some company. I started talking to her and immediately she got excited. I was able to leash her pretty easily. She walked wonderfully on the leash. I got her out to the run and she’s very loving and affectionate. She loves belly rubs. When I had her out in the run I was petting her, and she actually turned around onto her back and basically asked for belly rubs. She’s definitely a good girl and always happy. I think she’s unique looking, and hopefully she can get out of the shelter tomorrow

🐾 Behavior Notes:

Jenna’s notes are full of words like sweet, gentle, happy and wiggly. She regularly greets staff with a wagging tail, relaxed body, soft eyes and an open-mouth smile. She is easy to leash and has frequently walked nicely on a loose or semi-loose leash.

Jenna has also shown playful interest in other dogs, offering play bows and a curving, wiggly body toward neighboring dogs.

🙏 Jenna has been waiting since July 26 and is now dealing with URI, GI issues and heartworms. This sweet, wiggly girl needs a safe place to recover and decompress.

Please foster, adopt, rescue, share or pledge for Jenna.

All the below dogs are extended from BARC's 8/18 list.

Each needs a hold by 1pm CT, Wednesday, 8/19, to survive.

Please do not count on BARC extending them again.

Then clear your schedule. There is no time for anything but rescuing the dog. I have a guide you might find helpful. https://redd.it/1sy6v1t/

Please be aware that because of the New World screwworm outbreak there are restrictions on nonhuman travel, varying by destination.

Extended to 1pm CT, Wednesday, 8/19:

Bolt (5M neut. male Staffie-mix puppy, A2089639) - https://redd.it/1vqqgz7/

Stacey (3Y female Staffie mix, A2087630) - https://redd.it/1vr5u14/

If there are others added, I will update this post.

Please understand that we must treat the 1pm deadline as nonnegotiable. BARC and BARC alone decides if a dog gets more time, and they usually say no.

Don't forget the many other wonderful dogs on the long-stay list (updated hourly): https://www.houstontx.gov/barc/barcdata/BARC_LOSV2.1.pdf

If they're not on the next list, they soon will be.

🔹 Intake:

8/9/2026: Caller reports a group of aggressive dogs, possibly pit bulls and other big dogs, in the backyard of a yellow house next to the caller, attacking something. Caller states unknown what it is.

📝 Shelter Notes:

8/13/2026: Titus greeted me by his kennel door with a neutral body, low swaying tail and soft mouth, walked on a loose leash heading in and out of eval. Entered and exited kennel with no issues.

8/17/2026: Was very tense and timid in kennel yesterday with busy row full of people, remained lying on his bed and avoiding eye contact throughout the day. Today was very slow on leash exiting kennel and walking to closer side run, walked behind me with cautious steps, lowered body, tail tucked and scanning surroundings. When I returned for him in the run was standing at the gate with low wagging tail. Stood still as I placed leash on then held semi-loose leash ahead of me leading the way back inside and straight into his kennel.

8/18/2026: Titus backed away when leashing, avoided eye contact and lowered his head. He walked with a low posture going outside sticking to the walls while inside. He was easily leashed from an outside run but he did not want to walk out, not responding to treats or baby talk, then I carried him to the door to South and he walked with a tense body back to his kennel.

💙 Volunteer Notes:

8/10/2026: John greeted me at the kennel door with a fast wagging tail. He let me leash him and walked semi tightly to and from the potty yard. He is treat responsive. Inside his kennel he can be seen laying on his bed or waiting by the kennel door when he sees someone.

8/17/2026: John was easily leashed and walked loosely with a neutral body until put in his outside run when he lip curled and growled at the neighboring dog (Rice Crispy A2090881). 🩷 Say hello to pretty and sweet Pippa (A602654) she 7 years young and 50 lbs. This girl has the most magnificent eyes! Pippa is easily leashed and walks very nicely.  She allows full and easy handling, is very affectionate and seeks social. Pippa is also house-broken. She does come with a few medical issues — and the shelter is not able to give her the care she needs.  Seeing a full-service vet will be helpful for her. She does have a heart murmur (which does not mean she cannot live a full life) and a possible mammary mass.  She is also heartworm positive but her treatment is sponsored by the shelter. This precious girl needs to be loved and in a home.  Pippa is available for adoption but can also be fostered through a rescue.

🩷🐶 Izzy #A2088329

7/28 Euth Request (Owner Surrender) | German Shepherd Mix | Spayed Female | 3 Years | 53.6 lbs | Heartworm High Positive

💜 Volunteer Notes:

We were not able to meet Izzy #A2088329. If you're interested in helping us meet the animals, please message us!

🐾 Behavior Notes:

Izzy has repeatedly shown shelter staff a calm, soft and affectionate side. She often greets handlers with a relaxed body, wiggly tail and soft eyes, is easy to leash, and frequently walks beautifully on a loose leash. Staff have described her as quiet and calm in her kennel, and she has kept her kennel clean overnight.

Izzy has sometimes become frightened and frozen or “pancaked,” needing reassurance or even to be carried to the run.

Away from that kennel stress, Izzy has repeatedly been relaxed, easy to handle and cooperative.

🙏 This sweet beautiful girl has been waiting since July 28, and the stress of shelter life is taking its toll. Please foster, adopt, rescue, share or pledge for Izzy and help get her safe.

📝 Shelter Notes:

8/17/26: Izzy began lunging and forward barking at dogs as they passed by her kennel.

8/16/26: Izzy stood at the front of her kennel with a relaxed body and softly wagging tail. She was leashed easily and walked out readily. She walked well on a loose leash in the run, but became vocal when other dogs passed her kennel after returning, so her kennel was covered.

8/14/26: Izzy stood near her kennel door and exited easily once leashed. She walked on a loose leash, looked outside, and was placed in a run.

8/13/26: Izzy was lying calmly in her kennel and walked loosely on leash once outside. She repeatedly stopped and wanted to pancake, but continued walking with encouragement and returned to her kennel on her bed.

8/12/26: Izzy waited calmly at the front of her kennel with a wiggly tail and soft eyes. She was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash to the runs with an open-mouth smile. She returned without issue.

8/11/26: Izzy was quiet in her kennel and walked on a loose leash to the row, but became tense and froze once outside. Staff had to carry her into a run. She remained mostly stationary while outside but walked back inside without issue.

8/4/26: Izzy greeted staff loosely at her kennel door with a soft open mouth and high wagging tail. She was easy to leash, walked loosely outside and back, and remained very relaxed and quiet in her kennel.

💖 Izzy is a sweet girl who has shown a relaxed, affectionate side with her handlers. She is often easy to leash, walks nicely on a loose leash, and greets people with soft eyes and a wagging tail. At times she becomes overwhelmed outside and has recently shown reactivity toward dogs passing her kennel, but the stressful shelter environment can be incredibly difficult. She needs a patient, understanding home where she can decompress, feel secure, and show who she is away from the constant stimulation of the shelter.

🩺 Medical Notes:

- Heartworm positive.

- Spayed.

- Recently treated with doxycycline for coughing and nasal discharge/upper respiratory infection.

Summary:

Izzy is heartworm positive. On 8/8, she developed hacking and nasal discharge and was diagnosed with suspected CIRD/URI. She was moved to treatment and started on Doxycycline 250 mg once daily for 10 days.

Izzy was spayed on 8/5 and was noted to be in heat at the time of surgery. She has received her core vaccines, rabies vaccine, deworming and Advantage Multi.

🙏 Bolt is just 5 months old - a baby who should be growing up in a home, not waiting in a shelter while battling a respiratory infection. He needs someone to give him the time, care and security he deserves.

Please foster, adopt, rescue or share Bolt before it's too late.
