Katara came into BARC as a stray on 10/8. She was just 9 weeks old and arrived with significant medical concerns, including widespread hair loss and an injury to her right hind leg. Her intake condition was classified as severe.

No behavioral evaluations have been documented for Katara.

🚑 Medical Notes:

• 10/8: Katara weighed 11.5 lbs and received a 4/9 medical assessment. Veterinary staff noted that her right hind leg appeared to be broken. She was also experiencing significant hair loss across her entire body.
• 10/8: A veterinary examination documented widespread hair loss and lameness, with Katara unable to bear weight on her right hind leg. A skin scraping was performed and returned negative. The veterinarian assessed her skin condition as dermatitis, potentially associated with flea allergy dermatitis.
• Flea medication was administered, and carprofen was prescribed for pain and inflammation.
• The veterinarian recommended rescue placement for further diagnostics and treatment.
• She received routine intake vaccines, deworming, and flea prevention.

Meet Salami, a 4-year-old girl with a wonderfully happy, affectionate personality! Precious Toffee is living his best life over at our dear friend Kayla's house, where he's getting lots of love, TLC and his very own private nurse! ❤️

Kayla graciously offered to care for this sweetheart for a couple of weeks while he gets a little steadier on his feet and we work on finding a wonderful foster or rescue to take him under their wing.

And considering this little guy came to us with broken front and back legs and serious pelvic injuries, seeing him enjoying some fresh air and sunshine this weekend just melts our hearts! ☀️🐶

9/26/2026: Stray

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

10/4/2026: Approaching the kennel, Samson was standing in front of the kennel gate with a open mouth smile, fast wagging tail, ears up, wiggling body, and soft eyes. He was very welcoming and friendly towards me as I leashed him easily and walked him outside. Samson was walked on a loose leash and very energetic towards me as consistently jumping on me to and from the outside runs.

10/5/2026: Samson was standing in front of the kennel gate with a open mouth smile, fast wagging tail, ears up, wiggling body, and soft eyes. He was very welcoming and friendly towards me as I leashed him easily and walked him outside. Samson was walked on a loose leash and very energetic towards me to and from the outside runs.

10/6/2026: Samson will greet at the front of the kennel as he presents loose body, open mouth and dilated pupils. Once leashed he is a bit jumpy but able to redirect with treats. When placing him in the outside run he was jumpy and mouthy and was biting the leash and wouldn't let go. When place back in his kennel I took the dog next to him out and Samson was barking and snarling at him while the other dog did not react.

10/8/2026: Samson continously kept trying to chew the leash, and became mouthy when taking to outside run. Samson showed no interest in treats.

10/9/2026: Samson continously kept jumping up while on the leash. Samson also kept putting his mouth around my hand and tugging on my shirt sleeves. I could sometimes redirect with treats but he would go right back to tugging on my sleeves.

10/10/2026: Samson was placed in outdoor kennel in the morning due to Uri symptoms. while in kennel he was pacing with dilated eyes, panting, and vocalizing. when trying to leash he kept jumping up and was very mouthy towards my hand and leash. once leashed i gave a loud and firm no and he stopped the nipping but walked on a forward leash. once in his kennel i covered and provided a pig ear. he has been quiet all day but i will continue to monitor.

10/10/2026: Samson greeted me with a soft face, front paws on the door, wiggly body, wagging tail, dilated eyes, lip licked and play-bowed. He was easily leashed and walked semi-loosely, very excited, rearing, mouthy with leash and me, jumped up and bit my arm bruising it.

10/10/2026: While walking on the leash, Samson is very hyperactive, jumping and trying to bite the leash, bit employee on the arm, causing a bruise.

10/11/2026: 12:29 Walked with tight leash out to runs. When I reached down to unleash he turned, jumped up and was mouthing very hard on my hand and arm, jumping up and scratching down my back. Same when trying to leash him, had to push him down and hold him down to get leash on, then used leash to hold him away from me while he was still trying to mouth.

9/26/2026: Weighed 44.8 lbs. Intake condition normal. Given dewormer, DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies, HW test (negative), Pyrantel, and Advantage Multi.

10/10/2026: Weighed 44.8 lbs. Diagnosed with URI. Per ACT, dog is coughing, sneezing and has nasal discharge. BAR. Prescribed doxycycline 200mg SID for 10 days. DA2PP-V administered.

Cody has shown he can be calm and quiet in his kennel, resting on his blanket, and has previously walked on a loose leash. More recently, he has been very vocal and over-aroused in the shelter, with pacing, panting, and jumping at kennel doors. His behavior appears to be affected by stress in this environment.
Cody is easily leashed, and on some walks he has moved comfortably without pulling hard. He needs a patient, experienced caregiver who can give him time to decompress and help him feel secure.

📝 Shelter Notes:

9/15: Beavis was described as very wiggly during intake.

9/17: Beavis displayed a loose, wiggly body and walked on a loose leash.

9/19: Beavis walked on a loose leash, showed interest in treats and remained quiet in his kennel.

10/6: Beavis greeted staff at his kennel door with a loose, wiggly body, fast-wagging tail and perked ears. He was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to and from the outdoor runs. While outside, he got the zoomies and tried to play with neighboring dogs by play bowing and running along the fence line.

10/9: Beavis was standing at the front of his kennel when staff approached. He walked on a semi-tight leash to the outdoor run and back. Once returned to his kennel, he began throwing water from his bowl and watched staff while they attempted to clean it.

10/10: Beavis was a little vocal during morning feeding and cleaning. He greeted staff at his kennel door with a wiggly body, fast-wagging tail and soft, open mouth with his tongue hanging out. He walked on a loose leash to and from the outdoor runs.

🩺 Medical Notes:

9/15: Beavis weighed approximately 43 lbs and received routine vaccinations, deworming and parasite prevention. He tested negative for heartworms.

9/21: Beavis was neutered.

9/28: Beavis developed sneezing and nasal discharge. Veterinary staff diagnosed a canine upper respiratory infection (URI) and prescribed doxycycline 200 mg once daily for 10 days.

10/8: Beavis continued showing symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. His doxycycline treatment was extended for another five days.

💖 Beavis is barely a year old, and this happy, playful boy has so much life ahead of him! Shelter staff describe him as a wiggly, affectionate youngster who loves treats, walks nicely on a leash and gets the most adorable zoomies when he's outside. He's even tried to make friends with neighboring dogs by play bowing and running along the fence! Despite battling a respiratory infection, his playful spirit hasn't faded. Beavis needs a loving foster who can give him a safe place to recover, plenty of affection and the chance to enjoy being a young dog. He has so much love and happiness left to give. Please don't let his life end in a shelter. 💙

This handsome 4-year-old Lab mix with gorgeous green eyes is smart, friendly with people, dog-friendly, and has so much love to give. ❤️

Unfortunately, Mouse has been waiting at Harris County Pets since 6/30, and as a long-stay dog, his time is running out. Euthanasia takes place in the morning before the shelter opens to the public. Without an adopter, foster, or rescue stepping up, tomorrow could be too late.

📝 Shelter Notes:
9/15: Andrew approached the kennel with an open mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He was excited to be leashed and walked on a loose leash but became startled easily by barking dogs. He continued to follow staff.
9/16: Andrew greeted staff with a loose, wiggly body. Once leashed, he ran out of the kennel but froze. He would alternate between walking and freezing, and needed time to settle before returning to his kennel.
9/17: Andrew walked slowly on the leash and showed no interest in treats. He repeatedly stepped into his water bowl, causing it to spill, and became very agitated whenever staff tried to clean it.
9/19: Andrew walked on a semi-loose leash and was very friendly and energetic toward volunteers, sometimes attempting to jump up during walks.
9/20: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a semi-loose leash and occasionally jumped up. He showed some interest in treats and was very friendly.
9/21: Andrew was observed pacing around his kennel with panting, dilated eyes, a high wagging tail and forward body posture. He attempted to escape when the kennel door was opened and was difficult to redirect. He knocked over his water bucket and pulled at his bedding. Staff noted that he whined throughout the day and was offered a pig ear to help him settle.
9/22: Andrew paced in his kennel with panting, dilated eyes and a wagging tail. He walked on a semi-loose leash and stayed very close to staff during his walk. He switched kennels with a larger dog and continued whining afterward.
9/23: Andrew greeted staff with low ears and a wagging tail. He walked on a loose leash and showed interest in some treats.
9/25: Andrew greeted staff with a relaxed body, soft eyes and a soft wagging tail. He was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to the runs before returning to his kennel.
9/26: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash, stayed very close to staff and was very friendly and welcoming throughout the walk.
9/27: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash and remained close to staff. Later, he enjoyed outdoor playtime with volunteers, walking around the runs and wagging his tail.
9/28: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash and stayed close to staff throughout his walk. He was friendly and welcoming.
9/29: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash and stayed very close to staff. When returned to his kennel, he went back to sleep on his cot.
9/30: Andrew greeted staff with a loose, relaxed body. He walked on a loose leash and remained quiet in his kennel throughout the day.
10/2: Andrew was quiet in his kennel throughout the day. He walked on a loose leash and accepted treats.
10/3: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash and stayed close to staff. He was very friendly and welcoming. Once back in his kennel, he played with his rope toy before lying down on his cot.
10/4: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash and remained close to staff. Later, he knocked over the whiteboard covering his kennel gate and began whining continuously. Staff offered treats and enrichment, which helped him settle.
10/5: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash and stayed very close to staff. Later, he was observed pawing and barking at his kennel door and attempting to knock off the board covering it.
10/6: Andrew greeted staff with a loose body, wagging tail and soft open mouth. He was a little jumpy during his walk but could be redirected with treats.
10/10: Andrew was observed sticking his legs out while lying down and barking. When staff approached, he got up and quieted down. He continued pulling at his kennel cover and knocked it down. Staff noted that he remained quiet when people walked past his kennel.
10/11: Andrew was observed barking and jumping against his kennel door during cleaning whenever another dog passed in front of his kennel.
🩺 Medical Notes:
9/12: Andrew weighed 51.2 lbs and tested low positive for heartworms. He received routine vaccinations, deworming and parasite prevention.
9/27: Andrew remained heartworm positive.
10/6: Andrew was sent to foster care with a dose of Advantage Multi for parasite prevention.
10/11: Andrew's medical record continued to indicate heartworm-positive status. He will need veterinary follow-up and an appropriate heartworm treatment plan.
💖 Andrew is just 9 months old, and this sweet, affectionate boy is already fighting for his life. Shelter staff describe him as friendly and wiggly, with soft eyes, a happy tail, and a love for being close to people. After nearly a month in the shelter, he's showing signs of stress and frustration, but beneath that is a young dog who simply wants companionship and a place to feel safe. Andrew needs a patient foster or adopter who can give him time to decompress and help him through heartworm treatment. He's still just a puppy with his whole life ahead of him. Please don't let the shelter be the only home he ever knows. 💙
