Cody has shown he can be calm and quiet in his kennel, resting on his blanket, and has previously walked on a loose leash. More recently, he has been very vocal and over-aroused in the shelter, with pacing, panting, and jumping at kennel doors. His behavior appears to be affected by stress in this environment.
Cody is easily leashed, and on some walks he has moved comfortably without pulling hard. He needs a patient, experienced caregiver who can give him time to decompress and help him feel secure.

📝 Shelter Notes:
9/15: Andrew approached the kennel with an open mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He was excited to be leashed and walked on a loose leash but became startled easily by barking dogs. He continued to follow staff.
9/16: Andrew greeted staff with a loose, wiggly body. Once leashed, he ran out of the kennel but froze. He would alternate between walking and freezing, and needed time to settle before returning to his kennel.
9/17: Andrew walked slowly on the leash and showed no interest in treats. He repeatedly stepped into his water bowl, causing it to spill, and became very agitated whenever staff tried to clean it.
9/19: Andrew walked on a semi-loose leash and was very friendly and energetic toward volunteers, sometimes attempting to jump up during walks.
9/20: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a semi-loose leash and occasionally jumped up. He showed some interest in treats and was very friendly.
9/21: Andrew was observed pacing around his kennel with panting, dilated eyes, a high wagging tail and forward body posture. He attempted to escape when the kennel door was opened and was difficult to redirect. He knocked over his water bucket and pulled at his bedding. Staff noted that he whined throughout the day and was offered a pig ear to help him settle.
9/22: Andrew paced in his kennel with panting, dilated eyes and a wagging tail. He walked on a semi-loose leash and stayed very close to staff during his walk. He switched kennels with a larger dog and continued whining afterward.
9/23: Andrew greeted staff with low ears and a wagging tail. He walked on a loose leash and showed interest in some treats.
9/25: Andrew greeted staff with a relaxed body, soft eyes and a soft wagging tail. He was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to the runs before returning to his kennel.
9/26: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash, stayed very close to staff and was very friendly and welcoming throughout the walk.

Later, he knocked over the whiteboard covering his kennel gate and began whining continuously. Staff offered treats and enrichment, which helped him settle.
10/5: Andrew greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, ears up, fast wagging tail and loose body. He walked on a loose leash and stayed very close to staff. Later, he was observed pawing and barking at his kennel door and attempting to knock off the board covering it.
10/6: Andrew greeted staff with a loose body, wagging tail and soft open mouth. He was a little jumpy during his walk but could be redirected with treats.
10/10: Andrew was observed sticking his legs out while lying down and barking. When staff approached, he got up and quieted down. He continued pulling at his kennel cover and knocked it down. Staff noted that he remained quiet when people walked past his kennel.
10/11: Andrew was observed barking and jumping against his kennel door during cleaning whenever another dog passed in front of his kennel.
🩺 Medical Notes:
9/12: Andrew weighed 51.2 lbs and tested low positive for heartworms. He received routine vaccinations, deworming and parasite prevention.
9/27: Andrew remained heartworm positive.
10/6: Andrew was sent to foster care with a dose of Advantage Multi for parasite prevention.
10/11: Andrew's medical record continued to indicate heartworm-positive status. He will need veterinary follow-up and an appropriate heartworm treatment plan.
💖 Andrew is just 9 months old, and this sweet, affectionate boy is already fighting for his life. Shelter staff describe him as friendly and wiggly, with soft eyes, a happy tail, and a love for being close to people. After nearly a month in the shelter, he's showing signs of stress and frustration, but beneath that is a young dog who simply wants companionship and a place to feel safe. Andrew needs a patient foster or adopter who can give him time to decompress and help him through heartworm treatment. He's still just a puppy with his whole life ahead of him. Meet Salami, a 4-year-old girl with a wonderfully happy, affectionate personality! Her shelter notes describe a wiggly body, a high wagging tail, happy feet, and a soft, smiling expression whenever staff approach. 10/7: Minny developed thick nasal discharge and sneezing. She was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and moved to treatment. Doxycycline 250 mg once daily for 10 days was prescribed.

9/28: Minny was spayed. Her weight was recorded at 58 lbs.

9/22: She weighed 56 lbs at intake. Her abdomen was moderately to significantly distended, and staff suspected pregnancy. She subsequently underwent spay surgery on 9/28. Her heartworm test was low-positive, indicating a heartworm infection requiring veterinary follow-up and treatment.

Katara came into BARC as a stray on 10/8. She was just 9 weeks old and arrived with significant medical concerns, including widespread hair loss and an injury to her right hind leg. Her intake condition was classified as severe.

No behavioral evaluations have been documented for Katara.

🚑 Medical Notes:

• 10/8: Katara weighed 11.5 lbs and received a 4/9 medical assessment. Veterinary staff noted that her right hind leg appeared to be broken. She was also experiencing significant hair loss across her entire body.
• 10/8: A veterinary examination documented widespread hair loss and lameness, with Katara unable to bear weight on her right hind leg. A skin scraping was performed and returned negative. The veterinarian assessed her skin condition as dermatitis, potentially associated with flea allergy dermatitis.
• Flea medication was administered, and carprofen was prescribed for pain and inflammation.
• The veterinarian recommended rescue placement for further diagnostics and treatment.
• She received routine intake vaccines, deworming, and flea prevention.

🆘💔 MEET TAQUITO — A BIG, FLUFFY LOVEBUG WHO JUST WANTS SOMEONE TO LOVE! 💔🆘

At 4 years old and 94.4 lbs, Taquito is a big boy with an even bigger personality! Shelter staff have repeatedly described this Labrador Retriever Mix as friendly, affectionate, and full of sweet energy. He greets people with soft eyes, a happy open-mouth smile, and a tail that just keeps wagging. He enjoys human interaction and has allowed staff to leash and pet him without issues. 💙🐾

Taquito can get overexcited, especially when leaving his kennel, and may jump, bounce, zigzag, or pull on the leash. But he has also shown that he can walk more calmly, and on his most recent walk he moved forward without pulling. This enthusiastic boy needs a home where he can settle in, learn routines, and enjoy positive, patient guidance.

He is currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection and is heartworm high-positive, so he will need veterinary care and heartworm treatment. Despite these medical needs, Taquito deserves the chance to leave the shelter behind and experience the comfort and security of a loving home.

• 10/8: Taquito was jumping onto his kennel door. Once leashed, he walked forward without pulling. Staff offered treats, but he was not interested.
• 10/7: He greeted staff at his kennel door with a wiggly body, open-mouth smile, and fast-wagging tail. He occasionally stood against the door in excitement. He moved around while being leashed but allowed staff to leash him without issues. On the way to the runs, he pulled on the leash and walked in different directions, sometimes walking against the handler's legs. He was easy to leash again and more relaxed on the return walk, pulling only slightly.
• 10/6: Taquito greeted staff with an open-mouth smile, ears up, fast-wagging tail, wiggly body, and soft eyes. He was described as very friendly and welcoming. As staff entered his kennel, he became excited, jumping and bouncing around. He walked on a semi-loose leash but occasionally jumped on his handler.
• 10/5: He displayed lots of energy, a fast-wagging tail, and a tendency to stand against his kennel door. He was easy to leash but pulled forward during walks and moved in different directions.
• 10/4: Staff described Taquito as a “big ball of sweet energy!” He greeted them with a fast-wagging tail, circling, and softly whining for interaction. He allowed staff to leash and pet him before walking excitedly to and from the potty yard. Inside his kennel, he could be seen jumping against the door when someone was nearby.
• 10/3: Taquito was moved to a new kennel. During the move, he nearly pushed past staff to get out. He walked on a semi-tight leash, zigzagging and panting with a swaying tail.
• 10/2: Taquito displayed neutral body language and a low-wagging tail. He walked on a semi-tight leash.
• 10/1: Taquito greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a neutral body, soft panting, and wagging tail. He was leashed and walked out to the runs, pulling somewhat on the leash while maintaining a neutral body and soft facial expression.
• 9/30: Taquito entered BARC as a stray following a field intake.

🩺 MEDICAL NOTES

• 10/9: Taquito developed sneezing, huffing, and white nasal discharge. He was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI), moved to treatment, and prescribed doxycycline 400 mg once daily for 10 days.
• 9/30: Taquito weighed 94.4 lbs. His intake examination described him as an intact male. His heartworm test was high-positive, indicating an infection that will require veterinary follow-up and treatment. He received routine shelter vaccinations, deworming, and parasite prevention.

💖 TAQUITO DESERVES A HOME, NOT A DEADLINE.

This big, fluffy boy has repeatedly shown staff his friendly, people-oriented side. His wiggly body, soft eyes, happy smile, and constantly wagging tail paint the picture of a dog who loves attention and wants to connect with people. His enthusiasm can sometimes overwhelm him, particularly when coming out of his kennel, but he has also demonstrated that he can walk more calmly.

Taquito has medical needs: he is being treated for a respiratory infection and will need veterinary care for his heartworm infection. A rescue and foster who can help him through treatment and provide a stable environment could make all the difference.

Despite all that enthusiasm, she has repeatedly shown that she can walk nicely on a loose leash and is easy for staff to handle. ❤️

Salami is heartworm-negative, but she is currently being treated for a treatable upper respiratory infection (URI). 🔷Intake:
He came into BARC on 10/6 after a citizen reported a large black, gray and white Husky who would not leave her property. The citizen reported that he was growling and appeared to have been injured over the weekend.
📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
10/6: The intake report stated that he was growling at a citizen and would not leave her property. He appeared to be injured.
No additional behavioral evaluations were provided in his shelter record.
🚑𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
10/8: He weighed 56 lbs and received a 5/9 injured medical assessment.
10/7: Medical staff documented an injury to his right hind leg. He was not bearing weight on the leg, and it was painful to the touch.
10/7: Staff noted that he was stiff when rising from a lying position, was not bearing weight on his right hind limb and had moderate muscle atrophy. He was prescribed Carprofen 100 mg once daily for 7 days for pain and inflammation. Radiographs were planned for 10/8.
Heartworm Negative.
Received routine intake vaccines, deworming and flea prevention.
💖 Garrus is an 8-year-old Husky should be spending his senior years somewhere safe and comfortable, not facing euthanasia while suffering from a painful leg injury. He arrived at BARC after being found on someone's property, where he was reportedly growling and refusing to leave. We now know that he has a significant injury to his right hind leg, is unable to bear weight on it and has moderate muscle atrophy. It's likely that his growling was influenced by pain, fear and the vulnerability of being injured in an unfamiliar place. Unfortunately, we have no additional behavioral notes to tell us what he's like when he feels safe and comfortable. What we do know is that this older boy is hurting and needs help. At 8 years old, he still deserves the chance to experience love, comfort and security. He shouldn't lose his life simply because he was found injured and frightened. He needs someone willing to see beyond his circumstances and give him the care and compassion he deserves.

10/2/2026: wagging tail, confident forward steps on leash. Went out to runs and back with semi-tight leash.
10/4/2026: dog was in front of the kennel very vocal and when i walked her she walked semi tight to the runs and coming back she kept trying to jump on me and walk foward on the leash and in the afternoon she kept standing on the kennel door and just being very vocal.
10/5/2026: Was jumping on kennel door upon approach, once leashed she walked out loosely but then would turn around and jump towards me. Once she was in the runs she was a bit vocal and jumpy on fence. Once I leashed her bac up to bring her back in she was constantly jumping up towards my face. Had to walk her on a short leash I was unable to distract her with treats.
10/6/2026: Sally is standing on kennel door as I approach kennel. Once she placed on all 4 on the floor I leashed her up, she bolted out of kennel. I decided due to her previous behavior I placed her in the very large run so she can have more space to run around. Once I came back for her she came running and began to whine and whimper as I was trying to leash her up. She would then continue to jump up on me continuously. I would try to redirect her but was unable to distract her. Once back in kennel she would jump on kennel door and whimper.

Sharon – 10/6/2026: Approaching kennel, dog is at the back of kennel with tens face, lifted paw, and back ears as I baby talk to her. I slowly leashed her and had to muzzle/carry to the eval courtyard to leash walk her. Would occasionally jerk on leash and back up after going potty.

9/26/2026 Foster Return | German Shepherd Mix | Neutered Male | 10 Months | 37.8 lbs | Heartworm Negative

💖 Glenn has a lot of puppy energy, but his earlier shelter notes show a friendly, treat-motivated dog who can walk well on leashy and enjoys enrichment.

Back in May and June, Glenn was described as friendly, patient and wiggly, taking treats gently, sitting and wagging when staff approached and enjoying his enrichment. He repeatedly walked well on a loose leash.

Since returning from foster, the shelter environment has clearly been much more difficult for him. Glenn is frequently vocal in his kennel, jumps at the kennel door and becomes excited when people or dogs pass. He can pull on leash and has been mouthy at times when excited.

Even so, his recent notes continue to show positive engagement with people. On 9/29, he greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a loose, wiggly body, soft eyes and fast-wagging tail and was easily leashed. On 9/26, he walked semi-loosely with a swaying tail and open mouth and could be redirected with treats.

Glenn is still a 10-month-old puppy, and much of what is being seen now appears tied to his high energy and kennel arousal. He needs a committed home or rescue willing to provide structure, exercise, training and an environment where he can settle.

🩺 Medically, Glenn is heartworm negative, neutered and his most recent exam was documented as normal. He has received routine vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention.

💖 Luna's notes are full of personality.

A shelter volunteer described Luna as a dog who could “steal your heart in mere minutes.” In the videos mentioned in the notes, Luna was seen rolling on the ground and gently pushing the volunteer's partner backward to cuddle in the grass. She was described as goofy, joyful, expressive and very affectionate.

Luna greeted the volunteer with a happy smile and goofy energy, and she has continued to show friendly behavior in the shelter. She knows sit, is very treat-motivated and may be quick to train.

She also did well during a temporary dog-to-dog assessment. The volunteer noted that Luna actually helped a shy dog come out of his shell, and by the end of their meet-and-greet he offered a play bow.

Her shelter notes consistently describe a wagging tail, wiggly body and friendly engagement. She has repeatedly allowed staff to leash her and has walked on loose or semi-loose leash at different times. She can become vocal, jumpy or mouthy when overstimulated, so she will need a foster or adopter prepared to provide patience, structure, activity and calm handling.

🩺 Luna is heartworm high positive and is currently being treated for CIRD/URI. She was prescribed doxycycline after developing sneezing, hacking and clear nasal discharge. She will need continued medical follow-up and heartworm treatment after leaving BARC.

💔 A volunteer who knows Luna says she is only on the list because of length of stay and having a cold. Her record also shows that she can be an affectionate, social and incredibly fun dog when given attention and a chance to be herself.

9/28/2026 Stray | Siberian Husky Mix | Male | 5 Years | 38 lbs | Heartworm Negative

💖 Kylan's shelter notes show encouraging interactions with people, even though the shelter environment is clearly stressful for him.

On 10/1, he greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a loose, wiggly body, soft eyes, open mouth and swaying tail. He was easily leashed, walked outside on a loose leash and returned to his kennel without difficulty.

On 10/4 and 10/5, Kylan was pacing in front of his kennel and showing signs of stress. He pulled somewhat on leash, but staff were able to walk him and work with him. On 10/6, he again greeted staff at the front of his kennel and was able to be redirected with treats when he pulled on leash.

⚠️ Kylan has also been documented fighting with the dog across from his kennel, so his interactions with other dogs will need to be carefully managed and assessed.

Medically, Kylan is heartworm negative. He was vaccinated, dewormed and given flea prevention. His weight was documented as 38 lbs on 9/29 and 10/1, with an underweight assessment noted on 9/29.

💔 Kylan appears to be experiencing significant kennel stress, but he has also repeatedly shown friendly, engaged behavior with staff. He needs a calmer environment where he can decompress and where his behavior can be better assessed outside the stress of the shelter.

9/18/2026: Stands at the back of the kennel as he presents tense body, worried face and low tail. I lightly muzzle and carry him out of the kennel. Once he was left in the outside run he ran away and hid in the corner and started to growl as he held tucked tail and whale eyes. I leashed and lightly muzzle and carry him back inside.
9/19/2026: Tense body in kennel with whale eyes. I opened the kennel and leashed him. He was resistant to walk. Carried him to a nearby kennel.
9/21/2026: Laying quietly in kennel upon approach. I opened the kennel entering and he began to tense up. I placed my leash on him and he was resistant to walk. I picked him up and carried him to an outside run.
9/22/2026: Approaching kennel dog was curled up in the back with dilated eyes and tense body. I lassoed the leash and dog then sat up and pressed his body on the wall. Light muzzled and carried him to new kennel. Dog was very tense while carrying him.
9/27/2026: Ms. Juju is still timid, head down, shaking, tail tuck. I will go on slow use a lot of baby talk when going to leash. Once leash she will walk slow , use a lot of baby talk. if started she will start to pull back and thrash. Will walk with baby talk , will stop at times but start walking. So put back on Adopt Eval.
9/28/2026: Juju was hesitant to leash then walked with a semi-tense body. Passing kennel, he stood by the door trembled, tense body, tucked tail, and dilated eyes. When offered treats he wagged his tail.
9/29/2026: Juju vocalized and showed teeth towards another dog passing his kennel. He walked loosely initially timid, tucked tail and tense then more relaxed outside and with baby talk low wagging tail, able to carry with no issues.
10/1/2026: Juju was calm and quiet in his kennel during am feeding and cleaning. greeted me by his kennel door with a relaxed body, mid wagging tail and soft smiling mouth, walked on a loose leash heading in and out of south, he would flinch and pancake onto the floor when i moved to quickly but would relaxed after i slowly began to pet him while baby talking.
10/3/2026: Juju became a little vocal as i got closer to his kennel during am feeding and cleaning. he greeted me by his kennel door with a wiggly body, high wagging tail and soft open mouth. once leashed he walked on a loose leash heading in and out of south building. when reaching down to remove leash he would pancake onto the floor and roll partway onto his back. after some baby talk he relaxed and walked away to go potty.
10/4/2026: Juju was forward barking and showing teeth at passing dogs this morning. When I approached for his turn to walk he ran to the back of his kennel with a tucked tail and started to tremble in the back corner. I was able to leash him and move him to the temp kennel.
10/5/2026: Juju was vocal towards other dogs passing his kennel. He escaped past me when feeding this morning. When walking he shook his head out of the leash and ran around outside, scurrying away and high-pitched vocalizing, then I was able to corner him slowly using baby talk and leashed then carried back to kennel, no muzzle needed, tucked tail, tense body, stiff, cowering. Passing kennel, he was laying on his bed quietly and trembled.

9/28/2026: Mr. Toby was a move adopt this morning, he was easy to leash and walked on a lose leash to and from runs. Had a happy tail and calm body did notice once in his kennel he does become vocal but then stops.

9/29/2026: Mr. Toby is a friendly dog, will leash with no issues, walk on a lose leash. I did notice today he will start to nonstop barking more when he sees people, will be panting as well.

10/1/2026: Vocal in kennel, barking. relaxed body, wagging tail. Easy to leash, walks on a semi tense body.

10/2/2026: Toby was very vocal throughout the day, waiting to go outside, as other dogs barked, as customers passed. He greeted me with a soft face, dilated eyes, ears back, and wagging tail. He was easily leashed and walked semi-loosely with a wiggly body.

10/3/2026: Toby was moved to treatment room today and he has been barking throughout the day. Toby will stand at the front as he presents loose body and dilated eyes and close mouth. Kennel remains cover.

When I tell you that this is one of the happiest, most wiggly butt little pitties I have met that is no lie! She was so happy to come out of her kennel when I met her I was able to leash her pretty easily. She walked well on the leash although had a little bit of jumping initially, but I think it’s cause she was excited to be out.

The sad part is she has some kind of injury to her leg and this is why she has landed on the euthanasia list. I did notice she is bearing weight on it and she’s jumping up and down using that leg. Despite the injury she doesn’t appear to be in any pain. Her tail literally never stops wagging. You can see it in the videos that I did of her.

I instantly fell in love with her as well as another volunteer. She has a gorgeous gray coat and such a sweet face. She did wonderfully with other dogs. She seemed to just want to play. She met two other female dogs.

I hope and pray this sweet girl makes it out of the shelter and she doesn’t pay with her life due to a leg injury.

This poor baby was found roaming at a gas station with an injury to his leg. When I took him out, he was so gentle and sweet. Such a good boy. He’s a little shy, but he listened very well and took treats gently. He actually took treats and sometimes laid them on the ground instead of eating them. His leg didn’t seem to bother him at all. Even at one point he jumped up on the bench.

I loved spending time with him because he’s like an old soul that you just want to sit with all day and spend time with. He’s obviously had a hard life and he’s probably lived outside most of his life with nobody loving him.

I just can’t imagine him not making it out tomorrow after having such a terrible life and being in a shelter for less than a week. To be euthanized because of an injury that he’s obviously had and lived with is devastating.

I was not able to do a temperament test; however, he did see other dogs and did not react at all. If a rescue is truly interested in him, I have no problem going to the shelter and obtaining a temperament test on him. He’s a good boy and I hope he can find that forever home that he deserves. 💜

How incredibly sad it is to see an 11 year-old sweet girl with a frosted face at the shelter. It’s even worse now to see her on the euthanasia list. When I approached her in her kennel, she was lying on her blanket and actually didn’t want to wake up. She was snoring. I took it as I wasn’t gonna be able to take her outside however I walked back by her kennel and she had her face in the front of the kennel. So I decided to take her out. I went to leash her, and she was very easy to leash and she seemed happy to know that somebody had noticed her. She’s incredibly sweet and gentle. You can tell she’s had a very rough life. Her skin is raw on her back. Her tail is missing it hair and she’s just got generalized dermatitis all over her body. With everything going on, she is nothing but sweet and loving. She took treats very gently however I had to cut them up a little smaller so that she could chew them. She did great with her temperament test with scared girl. I can’t imagine this girl losing her life in a shelter after everything she’s been through. I really hope somebody will give her a chance and let her live out the rest of her life whatever time she has left in a loving home.
