7/24/2026: Stood at the front of the kennel with her tail curled over her back and wagging. Walked to and from the runs on a semi-tight leash. Treat motivated and jumped onto the handler's legs to receive pets.

🚑 Medical Notes:

7/21/2026: Intake exam for an injured right front paw. Slightly lame with swelling of the fifth digit and a healing wound. Started on Carprofen (10 days) and Clavamox (10 days). Weighed 39.4 lbs. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, flea prevention given, Pyrantel administered. Heartworm test: Low Positive.

7/22/2026: Veterinary recheck confirmed injury to the right front paw. Nail trim performed and treated with ketamine and ketofen for evaluation.

7/23/2026: X-rays revealed severe trauma to the right front paw. The middle phalangeal bone and head of the fifth metacarpal are shattered with metallic fragments present, consistent with a gunshot wound (BB or .22 caliber). The fifth digit is destroyed and part of the metacarpal is likely affected. BARC recommends transfer to a rescue so she has time to heal completely. If adopted directly, the adopter must be willing to pursue continued treatment for her injured toe.

7/5/2026: Very relaxed.

7/9/2026: Athena lays in her bed most of the day and only comes up to me when I call her with baby talk. She walks on a loose leash and returns to her kennel to quietly rest.

7/11/2026: Approaching the kennel, Athena focused on me through the kennel gate. She turned around, walked, and circled before trying to leave slowly. She allowed leashing and walked outside on a loose leash, remaining neutral and paying little attention to other dogs. She spent much of the day lying on her cot or calmly standing.

7/13/2026: Athena is quiet and relaxed in her kennel. She greets at the kennel door with a relaxed body and wagging tail. Walks well on a loose leash.

7/17/2026: Athena was agitated in her kennel, knocked over her water bucket, and vocalized during morning cleaning and when people passed by. Otherwise quiet.

7/19/2026: Walked with a loose leash out to the runs and back. Quiet in her kennel throughout the day. She occasionally stood on her hind legs to peek over the kennel walls at people but was not disruptive or vocal.

7/20/2026: Athena stood in the middle of her kennel with a neutral body, low tail, and closed mouth. She leashed easily and willingly walked out on a loose leash. She remains quiet in her kennel as her kennel door is covered.

7/21/2026: Athena greeted at the front of the kennel with a neutral body, low tail, and soft panting. Walked on a loose leash. Athena will shred her cover. Removed from adopt evaluation due to no behavior concerns.

7/5/2026: Weighed 65.0 lbs. Heartworm Positive (Low). Vaccinated (Rabies, DA2PP-V, Bordetella), dewormed, and given Pyrantel and Advantage Multi.

7/8/2026: Spay performed. Post-op exam noted a friable, fatty uterus and postpartum changes. Given Dex-SP and 3 mLs of Famotidine. Prescribed a 7-day taper of Prednisolone and Famotidine for one week, plus 10 days of Gabapentin.

7/14/2026: Vomited the previous day but had no further vomiting and was eating and drinking normally. No significant findings; good appetite and drinking well.

7/19/2026: Weighed 65.4 lbs. Exam noted as "Other."

7/13/2026: Mongoose was a Move Adopt and walked on a semi-loose leash with slight forward pulling. He was energetic and friendly, allowed petting, became briefly aroused in his kennel, then quickly settled and sat at the kennel gate with a forward body, dilated eyes, ears up, and fast wagging tail.

7/14/2026: Mongoose stood by his kennel door with a wiggly body and wagging tail. He briefly stood against the kennel door, then sat to be leashed. Because of the rain he walked under the covered area on a semi-pulling leash and occasionally became jumpy outside.

7/17/2026: Mongoose presented with a very wiggly body, high fast wagging tail, and soft open mouth with his tongue out. Once leashed, he walked on a semi-forward leash while occasionally jumping on the handler. Outside, he began to thrash and alligator roll on the leash while yelping, but after a few seconds he calmed down and continued walking without issues.

7/20/2026: Mongoose greeted me at the gate with a wiggling body, ears up, open-mouth smile, high fast wagging tail, and dilated eyes. He walked on a semi-loose leash but pulled forward slightly. He paid little attention to other dogs and was jumpy and energetic, with treats offering little redirection.

7/21/2026: During morning walks and feedings, Mongoose paced in his kennel and occasionally jumped on the kennel walls. He greeted me with a wiggly body, ears up, open-mouth smile, tongue out, high fast wagging tail, and dilated eyes. He walked on a loose leash, was energetic to and from the outside runs, paid little attention to other dogs, and happily took a pig ear back to his cot.

7/22/2026: Mongoose greeted me by his kennel door with a relaxed body, high fast wagging tail, and soft open mouth. Once leashed he walked on a loose leash with a wiggly body and would occasionally jump around and on me, but was easily redirected with treats.

He paid little attention to other dogs and was jumpy and energetic, with treats offering little redirection.

7/21/2026: During morning walks and feedings, Mongoose paced in his kennel and occasionally jumped on the kennel walls. He greeted me with a wiggly body, ears up, open-mouth smile, tongue out, high fast wagging tail, and dilated eyes. He walked on a loose leash, was energetic to and from the outside runs, paid little attention to other dogs, and happily took a pig ear back to his cot.

7/22/2026: Mongoose greeted me by his kennel door with a relaxed body, high fast wagging tail, and soft open mouth. Once leashed he walked on a loose leash with a wiggly body and would occasionally jump around and on me, but was easily redirected with treats.

7/6/2026: Weighed 39.0 lbs. Normal intake exam. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, and given Pyrantel and Advantage Multi. No heartworm test recorded.

7/5/2026: Very relaxed.

7/9/2026: Athena lays in her bed most of the day and only comes up to me when I call her with baby talk. She walks on a loose leash and returns to her kennel to quietly rest.

7/11/2026: Approaching the kennel, Athena focused on me through the kennel gate. She turned around, walked, and circled before trying to leave slowly. She allowed leashing and walked outside on a loose leash, remaining neutral and paying little attention to other dogs. She spent much of the day lying on her cot or calmly standing.

7/13/2026: Athena is quiet and relaxed in her kennel. She greets at the kennel door with a relaxed body and wagging tail. Walks well on a loose leash.

7/17/2026: Athena was agitated in her kennel, knocked over her water bucket, and vocalized during morning cleaning and when people passed by. Otherwise quiet.

7/19/2026: Walked with a loose leash out to the runs and back. Quiet in her kennel throughout the day. She occasionally stood on her hind legs to peek over the kennel walls at people but was not disruptive or vocal.

7/20/2026: Athena stood in the middle of her kennel with a neutral body, low tail, and closed mouth. She leashed easily and willingly walked out on a loose leash. She remains quiet in her kennel as her kennel door is covered.

7/21/2026: Athena greeted at the front of the kennel with a neutral body, low tail, and soft panting. Walked on a loose leash. Athena will shred her cover. Removed from adopt evaluation due to no behavior concerns.

🚑 Medical Notes:
7/5/2026: Weighed 65.0 lbs. Heartworm Positive (Low). Vaccinated (Rabies, DA2PP-V, Bordetella), dewormed, and given Pyrantel and Advantage Multi.

7/8/2026: Spay performed. Post-op exam noted a friable, fatty uterus and postpartum changes. Given Dex-SP and 3 mLs of Famotidine. Prescribed a 7-day taper of Prednisolone and Famotidine for one week, plus 10 days of Gabapentin.

7/14/2026: Vomited the previous day but had no further vomiting and was eating and drinking normally. No significant findings; good appetite and drinking well.

7/19/2026: Weighed 65.4 lbs. Exam noted as "Other."

NOTE tense in kennel, whale eyes, was able to leash dog walked with a tense body, lowered head, hackles. Used long leash and walked him to the next kennel. Tense, avoiding the leash orginally, didnt take treats, eyes dilated, ears alert. Mouth was also tightly shut.

Dog greeted me at the front of the kennel with a tense body, hard stare, and dialated eyes. When I opened the kennel dog immediately backed into the wall. Easily leashed, but dog walked very forward and tense to the runs. Had to have help from another ACT to get dog from the runs, as dog was avoiding me. Easily placed in kennel, but snappy when attempting to remove the leash.
