LA runners - how do you find new routes when you want to try somewhere different?

Curious how people here actually do this. Do you use an app, ask someone, just explore and hope for the best?

Specifically wondering: what information do you wish you had before heading somewhere new - safety of the area, elevation, traffic, continuous paths without stoplights?

la transportation

me and my sister going to la mid july and wondering what the best mode of transportation would be. we don’t plan on renting a car because we’ve heard that parking is expensive and hard and we don’t want to navigate la traffic alone. we plan to do uber and lyft when needed and the metro elsewhere, we are wondering if the metro is generally safe tho. (we are from nc never taken public transportation besides once in nyc) and how much we should do uber compared to metro, along with any other tips or tricks with how to get around easily!

My general public comment at City Hall today to advocate for safer streets and a more effective government

Since I got arrested last December, the city (read: the mayor's office and LADOT) has been deliberately slow-walking efforts to reduce traffic violence. We met the mayor's office once, immediately after my arrest, and we presented two reasonable, achievable goals:

  1. That the city recommit to Vision Zero by declaring a state of emergency on traffic violence
  2. That the city legitimize volunteer-led efforts to make our streets safer

I like to give local electeds the benefit of the doubt. It's a hard and thankless job. However, at this point it's clear that our city leaders are making a conscious, deliberate choice to favor convenience for cars over quality of life for human beings. For instance, Karen Bass somehow found the time to personally intervene to keep Forest Lawn dangerous, all while ignoring our pleas for action to address traffic violence.

This is a situation that demands urgency. Lives are literally on the line. We'd agreed to hold off on painting crosswalks after I met with Mayor Bass last year, so long as the city was working with us in good faith. Well, that's not happening.

A couple weeks ago, we quietly painted a crosswalk in Jefferson Park to memorialize a hit-and-run victim. We're painting again this Saturday morning and will continue to do so until we see meaningful progress on ending traffic violence. (Side note: it's absolutely wild how threatening to paint crosswalks has become a bargaining chip.)

If you're interested in joining us Saturday morning or getting more involved generally, PM me.

Apartment Hunting/Roaches

Looking for a new apartment. I found a spacious apartment that is in the lower-side of our budget. $2,550 nice suburb of LA. We already live in the area, but I’m pregnant and we need more space. Our current apartment is 600 square feet for $2100 a month. This new place we found is 975 square feet. So 2,550 is the lower end of a two bedroom. Anyway, I check for roaches where ever I go after a bad experience renting. I think I found roach poop in this $2,550 apartment. I really want to be wrong given the space and cost, but I don’t want to risk getting sick or bringing home a newborn and have them get sick. Can you look at these pictures and tell me what you think. It didn’t feel super clean to me when I there, but I don’t mind deep cleaning if there aren’t roaches.

Windward ave

Anyone checkout Windward Ave between the boardwalk and the Venice sign yesterday? It was a complete vibe with so much life in the street and a glimpse into what we could have if we close that portion to traffic. It has so much potential to be a great pedestrian plaza. Of course LAPD was circling around trying to get pedestrians off the street the whole time for cars to roll through. We need to start prioritizing people over cars.

best hotels/areas to stay in LA?

me and my mom are going on a trip to la mid july and are wondering where would be the best place to stay. We wanna go to all the tourist attractions as well as the botanical gardens and drives around the area. We’ve heard west Hollywood is a safe option that’s near several things but haven’t heard much about anywhere else. we are very open just looking for something affordable, safe, and in a pretty area we can access things.

(along with that best modes of transportation??)

German Shepherd Looking for a New Home (Canoga Park, CA)

Hank (“Han”) is a 1.5-year-old, full training ,DDR German Shepherd who is urgently looking for a new home.
Unfortunately, we can no longer keep him after a serious fight with another dog in our household. This has been a very difficult decision for our family.
Han is intelligent, energetic, loyal, and very people-oriented. He is house-trained, knows basic commands, and is not neutered. He loves human attention and has never shown aggression toward people.
Han would do best as the only pet in the home. He does not get along with other dogs and has shown aggression toward other animals. Because of this, he needs an experienced owner who understands the breed and can provide structure, exercise, and continued training.
He has a lot of potential in the right environment and would make a devoted companion for someone prepared to work with him.
Located in Canoga Park, CA.
Please send me a message if you think you can provide Han with a safe, stable, and loving home.
