Puppy hates my new truck

Hey guys! I recently bought a new truck (used to have a 4-door sedan) and my puppy, Xena, absolutely hates riding in it. She’s about to be 10 months old now but my last car she absolutely loved riding in. Every time I would say “bye-bye” she would run to in whining and barking to get in. She was very relaxed in it, slept on long car rides, and very willing to enter. When I got my new truck, she was willing to get in, but I very quickly noticed that she did not enjoy it. She stayed curled up on the floor under the passenger seat and would not stay out of my lap. My fiancé has a 4Runner that she also enjoys riding in, which is of a similar height and visibility, it just seems to be my truck that she doesn’t like now. Any ideas as to why?

My dog used to be perfectly healthy. Does anyone have any idea what could cause skin to look like this?

Hi everyone. I’m hoping to get some ideas before our vet visit because I’m really worried.
My dog used to have a healthy coat, but recently he developed severe hair loss, redness, and sores like you can see in the photo. He’s never looked like this before.
Has anyone experienced something similar? If so:
What ended up being the cause?
What tests did your vet run?
Was there anything that helped?
I’m not looking for a diagnosis, just hoping to hear from anyone who’s gone through something similar so I know what questions to ask my vet.
NOTE: This is months old picture. He doesn’t look like this now but there are few red marks as the medications did help but not fully.

Hot take: Don't let strangers pet your dog on walks, even if they ask nicely

This might sound harsh, but we've gotten way too comfortable with random people approaching dogs that are on leash.

I'm 26 and just took my first trip to Europe with my partner. Porto was amazing, and one of my favorite things was walking everywhere. One thing kept grabbing my attention, and it happens at home too: people treat dogs like public property. Someone spots a cute dog, walks straight over, asks 'can I pet?', and the owner often feels pressured to say yes so they don't seem rude.

My take: the default answer should be no, unless you want that interaction and your dog clearly does too.

A few reasons why:

  • Most greetings are messy: tight leash, face to face, hands coming over the head, kids darting in. Even friendly dogs can get overwhelmed.
  • It trains dogs to expect people everywhere, which is why many owners end up with dogs that pull toward every passerby.
  • It is a safety issue for both the dog and the stranger. You do not know their handling skills, and they do not know your dog's triggers.

I started using a simple line when someone approaches: 'Not today, we're training' or 'She's shy, thanks though.' You do not owe anyone access to your dog.

By the way, I recently got some great gear for my dog from Covered Critters, which has been really helpful for us during our walks. Just thought I’d mention it: https://coveredcritters.com. If you disagree, when do you think leash greetings with strangers are actually worth it?

my dog is very sick and i don’t know what to do

her name is waffles, shes about 13 and she’s had teeth problems for a couple of years now. we should’ve taken her to the vet years ago but we never did (i am not an adult yet and i don’t have nearly enough money to help, so there’s nothing i could do about that).

she’s recently gotten a lot worse and we made an appointment about a month ago and the earliest she can get in is thursday (which is now in 4 days).

i can tell she hurts by the way she shakes, but the past few days i’ve realized she probably also has heart failure. she has these weird coughing fits, she breathes really fast, and she stumbles over when she walks.

i love her so much and i hate to see her suffering. she seems to feel a lot better when she takes medicine but forcing her to take it just for her to feel good for a couple of hours isn’t worth it for her quality of life.

does anyone think she will make it through her teeth being pulled? or even in good enough health to get it done? i think she can hang on till her appointment but it's awful watching her go through this. i am starting to think that it would be better just to put her down.

Okay interaction between cat and dog?

Is this interaction okay? (Minus the end?). This dog is my GFs dog and im really only used to cat body language. I want to lean that its okay, but i want to make sure. The kitten gets affectionate towards him sometimes and does this, but is kind of bipolar with him since she startles easily. They've cohabitated for about 8 months now

No fear of fireworks (1st 4th of July) is he just nonchalant or could this be a sign he has hearing issues?

Sir Sable the knight had zero issues with his first 4th of July, not even the slightest sign of anxiety. He was chill, meanwhile his brother was so anxious he was puking 😕

Nui’s first time seeing fireworks. Grateful we were far enough away for him to not be spooked & understand where the noise was coming from.

I’m happy we could be in comfy & familiar place while we watched. He seemed to take it well, hopefully next time fireworks happen he will remember everything was okay!

He sat with me the whole time, and now he’s getting treats and playtime (:

Dog diagnosed with hemophilia a. We are a bit lost

Just posted about another issue, but also wanted advice on this. A few months ago, our now 1 year old dog, Leo, had to undergo neutering. During this he had extensive bleeding and was not clotting. As a result of this and a blood test, we learned he has hemophilia a, a disease that causes our dog to not clot and to continue to bleed until medical attention is given.

As this is an incredibly rare disease, i would appreciate advice from people who have undergone similar issues, or have any knowledge on this topic.

We greatly appreciate any support.

Additional info: we adopted him from a rescue at 8 weeks and he is a cavapoo havanese mix.

Is my anxious dog destined to be a single dog?

My resident dog (4 years old, likely a poorly-bred BYB lab with missed developmental periods; we rescued her 3 years ago) is anxious, doesn't read or give normal dog social cues, and has never play bowed in her life. Lots of work has gotten her more confident, but she's just odd socially.

We're fostering-to-adopt a second dog, specifically chosen for being submissive and great at reading cues. He's wonderful, and we deliberately did slow intros (parallel walks, scent swaps, neutral meet-and-greets) before bringing him home. Indoors they're separated by a baby gate and coexisting peacefully.

Yesterday in our fenced yard, off-leash, my resident dog got the zoomies and started doing this weird "fake-out" movement she does instead of play bowing, clearly trying to invite play. They ended up chasing each other. When he mouthed her mid-chase, she barked and bared teeth at him. He backed off but looked confused, and she kept doing the fake-out thing while tucking her tail and skittering away like she still wanted to engage but couldn't handle it. We separated them at that point.

He wasn't being pushy. It really seems like she wants to play, gets overstimulated the second it becomes reciprocal/two-sided, and doesn't have the skills to communicate "too much" without snapping.

I don't want to build a negative association between them, and I don't want him getting corrected constantly for normal dog behavior, but I also can't supervise every second once the gate comes down permanently.

For context, it is day 3 of having him with us. I really love this dog already. He is so fun and goofy. He makes me laugh constantly. The idea of having to return him because of my neurotic first dog brings me to tears. I want this to work and I want to be his forever home, but I also want to be realistic. Is this going to be sustainable long-term as we go through milestones like getting a new house, getting married, having kids potentially, etc. This is my greatest fear.

I feel like we are doing everything right and being extremely cautious and trying to keep everything positive, but despite everything, it's like the effort doesn't matter.

As I mentioned, we suspect that Resident Dog missed a critical social development period in her puppyhood as she does not seem to know how interact / socialize with dogs properly, cannot read their non-threatening body language, and does not understand what a play bow is.

Has anyone dealt with this pattern (anxious/under-socialized resident dog + confident newcomer)? Is this workable with time, or a sign it's not going to click?

TLDR: My resident dog has poor social skills from likely bad early development and doesn't play-signal normally. Our foster dog (great social skills, low-key temperament) tried to play with her off-leash and she snapped when the chase got two-sided, even though she seemed to want to play. Looking for advice/success stories on integrating an anxious, poorly-socialized dog with a confident one.

My dogs tongue is twitching

I just noticed this morning that my dogs tongue is twitching only on one side. I thought it could be from him panting or something that I just never noticed. It’s been 7 hours and it’s still doing it. Is this normal?

Hound mix teeth

This 50lb hound dog mix rescue (she's not snarling, she's enjoying a pup cup and I caught the perfect moment licking her face) has tiny weirdly spaced teeth. Do these seen normal for a hound? She's had a dental and I was told they're in good shape. But they certainly are funny little things. So they look damaged to you?

Confidence building with a fearful puppy

Hello everyone,

I adopted a pyr puppy who was placed in a shelter due to being attacked by some sort of doodle (large one) at 10 weeks old. She’s ready for full socialization now, but she gets so scared when she sees dogs in public. She will sometimes try to bolt on a leash if the owner doesn’t have a handle of their dog and it gets close to her. How can I try building her confidence around stranger dogs? She lives with two ACDs that she loves and has no issue with.

Someone please help me a dog question

My phone into a bad part in my life I'm currently living in a weekly hotel temporarily till I get back on my feet recently I found this dog that was tied up to a pole apparently he was left in a room with feces all over the room human feces. And then the owner left them in the rain no one wanted him and so he stayed there after he stayed there for two days I had to take him in b I'm not in the position really financially currently but he's such a sweetheart and I feel so bad for this dog. Anyways here's the question

His eyes look like they're so shut they did not look like this when he first was tied to the pole. I now need to take him to a vet I don't have the money for that right now until I just need someone's help if you look at the first picture please look at his eyes if anyone is a vet would be a huge help to just let me know what's going on.

. So my knowledge doesn't have any shots

Everyone ignored him and said he was sick and just kept passing him I now have him and he's currently gaining weight and honestly even though you guys can't tell he looks a lot better than I found the

Fostering a fearful/anxious ‘beagle mix’ that is also pitbull mix-hoping for advice

Hello all-

Hoping for some advice here. I recently agreed to foster a 2 YO male beagle mix, that has now been in my home for about a day. The dog is very fearful of new people/situations, but does not appear agressive.

The dog is also on Prozac, trazadone, and gabapentin (the last two are for a foster transition).

I have no experience with dog fostering and feel a bit ill-prepared for what I’ve gotten myself into-because the beagle mix is also a Pitt bull mix. This may have been mentioned over the phone but I didn’t pick up on it, and I didn’t see photos until after I’d already agreed to the foster. And once I’d agreed I thought well I’ll just see how he is in my home etc; and it’s starting to sink what I’ve gotten myself into.

Logic tells me a fearful pit bull on Prozac is not going to get adopted, so the only solution is that this dog is able to change his behavior and go off his medication at some point.

I’m a little frustrated why the shelter gave me this dog knowing I’d never fostered before.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do with this situation?

Could she be in heat?

My puppy is an 8 month old American Bully. She has a hooded vulva so she’s prone to UTI’s. She’s had one already and the other day she had a little bit of discharge (I only noticed it one day) and I immediately took her to the vet. She said with her only symptom being a little bit of clear discharge, that is likely not a UTI, but she could be about to go into heat.
I AM GETTING HER SPAYED. But obviously I can’t right now if she’s in heat. The problem is I have no idea if she’s in heat or not. She licks her private area every day, she’s always done that. I haven’t seen any blood. I took her to the vet on Thursday and now it’s Sunday and the vet said wait and see if you see any blood. So now I’m confused because I want to get her spayed but I don’t know when to make the appointment for her, because the vet said wait 2 months after she’s been in heat. Plz help, her area does look inflamed but that’s literally the only symptom I’ve noticed…
Sincerely
A stressed dog mom

How to comfort my aunt's dog after my aunt passed away?

I (16M) lived with my aunt (35F) until she was unexpectedly hospitalized about a month ago. She spent 6 days on life support in the ICU and eventually passed away.

Her dog, Kratos, who's likely a Great Pyrenees-Golden Retriever mix and ~9 years old was a rescue from an abusive home, so he already has pretty intense anxiety. She had him for 5 years and he was pretty much velcroed to her until my aunt passed away.

Since her passing, he's been pacing around the house to look for her. He's eating less, and even more hesitant to go outside. I don't think he understands that she passed away, and I don't know how to comfort him.

I've been incentivizing him to go outside with cheese. I've also been checking on him and spending more time with him. I've been petting him and verbally reassuring him, but he still has these behaviors.

Everyone else I live with, my aunt's husband (36M) and my grandma (60F), have been doing the same things I've been trying. Kratos' anxiety is a little better when my uncle in law is around, but he works full time and so does my grandma.

This leaves me the only one to help him most of the time since I'm on summer break and only working part time. It's also really upsetting that I haven't been good enough at comforting him for any of these behaviors to improve. I feel like I should be doing better to comfort him. I don't know how to fix this and I feel so frustrated and so powerless.

I would love to hear any advice to help my aunt's dog.
