Neighbor's dog keeps charging at us
Hello, dog people. We have an issue with our neighbors' dog. We've lived next door to them for 10 years or so and when we moved in we got ourselves a goldendoodle puppy. Some years later they got themselves a puppy as well. As far as I can tell it's some sort of pittie mix. At first it was cute. She would often escape their house and they would have to run after her down the street. But then she got older and things changed. She started charging at us every time she saw us. Not just us but our dog as well. She does not seem to have problems with the other dogs in our neighborhood. She does not seem to have any problems with any of the other neighbors on our street. Every time we observe her, she is very chill with everyone else. But the moment she sees anybody from our house, she flips the fuck out and charges. She once got out of their fenced in backyard and chased us around our car. We probably should have called the cops but we didn't. Mainly because she ran back into her yard, then into the house. (Turns out the neighbors weren't home that day and had someone house sitting. The latch on the gate came undone and she got out. The house sitter didn't even know she had escaped. I told them to please let the owner know but I have no idea if they did.) I did call animal control but they said unless I've got evidence there's not much they can do except send them a letter saying there's been a complaint. We put up a camera looking over our driveway now.
I have actually talked to the neighbor about their dog. The husband says he doesn't know what's wrong with her or why she constantly wants to get at us. I have no idea if she's had any training whatsoever. Our dog knows at least basic commands and he is pretty chill in most situations. The only time he gets out of hand is when he's at the dog park and wants to play. But even when their dog charges us, he just gives her a glance and keeps on walking. He doesn't give a shit. But I am worried that one day they're not going to pay attention and she's going to rip free of the leash. Plus I've got a young kid and a teenager at home. I don't want to have to worry about them getting attacked by this fucking dog.
Is there something we did? Is it something they did? Is this dog just psychotic? Is it racist? I have no idea what is happening. But any advice would be appreciated. I am getting really tired of this. It's been going on for years.
