Nessie is extremely scared right now. She has been observed trembling on her blanket with a tense body, tucked tail and whale eyes. She has sometimes frozen when frightened.

But when approached slowly and gently, Nessie has allowed staff to leash her and has followed them to another kennel.

This frightened girl needs somewhere quiet where she can finally feel safe.

🙏 Nessie was found outside searching for food, possibly after recently having puppies.

8/12/2026: When approaching kennel, dog will stand at the back of the kennel as she presents tense body, whale eyes and tucked tail. I baby talk and was able to loop leash around her, she slowly walked out and slowly followed as I baby talk and moved her to a new clean kennel. Dog did not accept treats when offered.

8/14/2026: She was in the back of the kennel on her blanket, I baby talked her and tossed treats and she stayed laying on her bed with a trembling body. I close the kennel door and she slowly gets up, so I come back and I leash her and she slowly exits the kennel with a trembling body, I baby talk her and try to get her to walk on the leash and she thrashes so I got her to scurry into a clean kennel.

The stress of the shelter has left her vocal and anxious in her kennel, and at times she becomes overwhelmed outside, but she settles with gentle handling.

Daisy and her sister Darla have both hit the euthanasia list on the same day. These girls are eight months old, 30 to 40 pounds and heartworm negative. Daisy is so friendly and did amazing walking by the other kennels. I took her to the front of the kennel area and sat on the ground and she just rolled over and wanted belly scratches. She can be a little bit jumpy on the leash, but she’s very easily trainable. This girl would do amazing with a family and yard of her own. I met Albert because as a lot of people know I love shepherds, but I also love black dogs. I also know that they for some reason have a disadvantage when they're in the shelter. They can be some of the best dogs though. Albert did not disappoint. He is incredibly calm, sweet, laid-back and well mannered. I just love his personality. He's also a beautiful dog. He walks well on his leash you're able to leash him easily. He loves taking treats and he's very gentle about it. He walked by the other kennels with no issues at all no reaction to any other dogs. We did a temperament test with him and he had no issues there either. I literally love this boy so much and I'm rooting for him in every way. There is no way that such a wonderful boy that is heartworm negative and only a year-old should be euthanized at a shelter. He's been at BARC for well over 3 weeks which unfortunately is a long time to be there. It's clear he's been a good boy at the shelter. I want so badly for this boy to make it out of the shelter. I have seen him throughout his time at BARC and I've grown to care about Albert.

🚗 OUT OF STATE OR CANADIAN ADOPTION IS POSSIBLE - cost is typically around $600 USD (give or take). The fee includes transport, boarding, full medical, spay/neuter, and a health certificate.

We are a volunteer network dedicated to helping at-risk dogs. We are not affiliated with BARC. We connect at-risk animals at the BARC shelter with the adopters, fosters, and rescue organizations needed to save their lives. We can help coordinate out-of-state adoption through approved 501c3 rescues. Please message the OP for information and a link to an application form. 📝 Shelter Notes:

7/29/26: Hank was lounging comfortably on his bedding when approached. He got up slowly, walked nicely on a loose leash, and remained quiet and relaxed throughout the day.

7/30/26: Hank greeted staff with a soft wagging tail and tapping toes when they approached. He walked calmly on a loose leash and willingly entered his kennel on his own after his outing.

8/4/26: Very quiet in his kennel and spent much of the day resting on his cot. Walked calmly on a loose leash.

8/5/26: Hank was resting peacefully on his bed as people walked by. He remained calm and quiet, kept his kennel clean, and was easy to leash. He walked on a loose leash to and from the runs and paid little attention to other dogs.

💖 Hank is a calm, gentle soul who enjoys a peaceful routine and simply wants a quiet place to rest his head. He walks beautifully on leash, keeps his kennel clean, and consistently shows a sweet, easygoing temperament. Hank would thrive in a loving home where he can finally leave the stress of the shelter behind and enjoy the comfort he deserves.

Currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection (CIRD). After completing a 10-day course of doxycycline, he continued to have mild nasal discharge and has been prescribed an additional 5 days of doxycycline.
