After 8 YEARS with her family, 8-year-old Lucy is now sitting in a kennel at Downey ACC.

Lucy was surrendered on 7/6/26 following a scuffle with a small dog in the home. Lucy now has a No small Dogs requirement.

But there is so much more to Lucy than that one piece of her history.

She lived with children ages 11–13 and was playful. She rides well in the car. She walks politely on leash. She knows sit and paw. Her favorite thing to play with? A BALL. 🎾

And shelter staff saw another side of her, too.

During her assessment, Lucy was nervous and somewhat concerned with handling—but once it was over, her entire posture softened. She sought engagement with the handler and even offered play bows.

And on 8/11, Lucy participated in playgroup. She was described as social and non-reactive, exchanged appropriate greetings with other dogs, played with them, and solicited affection from the handlers.

She is large-dog friendly, but needs a home without small dogs. Adults only or older children are recommended. Slow introductions and confidence-building would help her settle in and feel secure.

Lucy is 8 years old.

She spent eight years belonging to someone.

Now she’s waiting behind a kennel door, hoping someone will believe that her story isn’t over.

Cookie is just a scared young girl struggling in the shelter environment. She often has a tense body, tucked tail and worried expression. She may hide in the corner, pace, avoid the leash or suddenly bolt when frightened.

Once left alone, however, Cookie has been observed lying quietly in her kennel. When her kennel was covered, staff heard her whimpering behind the cover.

I don’t even know where to begin, because all Ive done for a week now is cry. Due to my own health issues and my family needing me closer, I am having to move from Northern Ireland to England. I cannot take my boy with me.

I have looked into every possibility, every way to be able to keep him, and there just isn’t one. Unless I win the lottery tomorrow, there’s no housing in England that will let me live with him.

I know this is a long shot, but is there anyone out there who can help? He needs someone experienced because he is reactive (this is NOT why I am rehoming him) and very picky. He doesn’t have a bite history but I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried it.

He is partially muzzle trained (he will wear it but he won’t be happy about it), crate trained, so incredibly intelligent and has the best most silly personality.

If anyone knows anyone, or ANYTHING that could help, please let me know.

He’s my first dog my, because my parents were always unwilling to adopt one. I sent them a picture of him (Dutch) a 10 month old Malinois and German Shepherd mix (according to his vet) he was full of ticks and fleas, with several wounds. I was taken aback by how fast they agreed (as they always refused very firmly) I decided to name him Dutch (after Van der Linde) he is 1 month with us now and he is extremely energetic and high maintenance but other than that he is a very good boy. I’m struggling to keep him stimulated as he never seems to quit. I live in a house with a big yard but it’s not fenced (as if any fence could contain him). I looked for this sub hoping to get some tips on how I can keep him entertained and stimulated. I would love for him to run free all day but I am afraid for his safety. 8/10/2026: In the back of the kennel in a curled position, tense body and dilated eyes. Place the leash on her and gave her a little nudge to get her up but she did not budge, she just started pulling back on the leash, gave her some treats and she just sniffed them. I place a light muzzle and carried her to another clean kennel.

8/11/2026: In the back of the kennel in a curled position, tense body and dilated eyes. Easily leashed, but she did not want to walk at first, and then bolted out of the kennel. Dog was darting around on the leash, and was placed into a new clean kennel. Very tense when I went to spot clean in the afternoon. Pinned herself against the wall and didn't move, with worried face, tense body, and hard stare.

8/12/2026: In the back of the kennel in a curled position, tense body and dilated eyes. Easily leashed and was calmer on leash than yesterday. Easily walked into a new clean kennel.

8/9/2026: Weighed 45.4 lbs. Low heartworm positive. Older dog with incisors worn to the gumline. Sparse areas of hair loss. Geriatric and low heartworm positive with dermatitis, possible atopy/flea allergy. Treated with Advantage Multi at intake. Vaccinated with DA2PP-V, Bordetella and Rabies, dewormed, and given Pyrantel.

8/9/2026: Left upper shoulder noted. Weight recorded at 40.0 lbs.

Xanny greeted the runner nicely with a relaxed demeanor & was easy to leash/remove from the kennel soliciting petting during the process. He greeted the dogs at the barrier & was guided into the play yard. He allowed the dogs to gather & sniff him but appeared uncomfortable with face-to-face greetings. He became tense with the dogs around his face & moved away on his own. He continued to explore the yard sniffing various locations. As he explored he allowed the dogs to sniff his rear as he did the same then moved on. He approached the handlers a few times soliciting petting from them. He continued to roam the yard primarily keeping to himself or with the handlers. As he was roaming Xanny & another dog got into a scuffle. The handlers were able to separate them.The handler spent some time with Xanny. As they sat on the bench he approached & nuzzled their hand for petting & leaned into their hand. Xanny allowed the handler to examine his ears, mouth, abdomen, back, lower extremities, and tail without incident. He continued to solicit petting post assessment

I’m trying to determine if my dog is a Belgian Malinois. She was dropped off where I live a few months ago. She was very skinny and unhealthy looking and you could tell that she had had puppies previously. I thought she was an odd looking GSD. She has the big ears and sloped hips but she is on the smaller side and not as tall as a GSD. She’s very sweet and energetic. I’ve never seen her be aggressive. Do you guys think she’s a GSD mis or a Malinois?

Urgent! All the dogs in this video have been CLEARED for euthanasia at the Downey Animal Care Center located in Southern California - starting TOMORROW! Each of these dogs are insanely sweet, friendly, & happy to be alive; some are very scared but they have no idea the fate that awaits them. That’s how long Lobo had his family.
And then, after an entire lifetime with the people he knew and loved, they surrendered him to a high k*ll shelter.

Now Lobo #A5789645 is 14 years old, sad, alone, and visibly heartbroken. He is struggling in the shelter environment, and watching a senior dog like him deteriorate in this way is devastating.

He spends his last days on a concrete kennel floor, lying in his own urine and feces.

A 14-year-old senior German Shepherd.

He should be sleeping on a soft bed. He should be surrounded by love. He should be spending his final years feeling safe and cherished.

Instead, he lost his family and found himself in a shelter.

WHO can save this precious boy??

LOUIE came into the shelter as a stray on 5/27/26 from Fontana jurisdiction. He has been SOCIAL with STAFF and OTHER DOGS. The shelter have just now restarted playgroups after over a year and he has become one of the new greeter dogs from 7/31.

GORGEOUS LOUIE can be responsibly ADOPTED or he can be FOSTERED for a rescue if you can offer him stability and commitment until he gets his Furever home.

Please NETWORK for his life. JUST ONE SHARE could be the one to SAVE him LOUIE is listed as a male, brown Belgian Malinois (but I think German Shepherd) of about just over year old weighing 76.80 lbs.

I legitimately thought she was a shepherd mix. Whatever she is, she acts exactly like a malinois.

She's velcro to a fault... if I get up to pee at 2 AM she's coming with.

She jumps on counter tops without making a sound and then looks at me like I'm the weird one.

She won't do a trick unless she sees a treat first and it's the kind she actually likes.

She's learned 3 tricks in 20 minutes of training.

I think She's probably a pure mal or mal mixed with something similarly sized.

Easily the most intelligent dog i've ever owned and I've only had her 4 days.

So cool!

I’ve been fostering and training Hans, a 2 year old Mal/GSD mix.

He is:
- House and crate trained
- Good in malls, stores, and large events
- Capable of passing Canine Good Citizen and therapy assessments
- Friendly with strangers, children, and visitors in the home
- Off leash (E-collar) trained
- High drive and ball motivated
- Taking commands in and out of drive
- Living with another dog without issue
