🚗 OUT OF STATE OR CANADIAN ADOPTION IS POSSIBLE — cost is typically around $600 USD (give or take). The fee includes transport, boarding, full medical, spay/neuter, and a health certificate.

We are a volunteer network dedicated to helping at-risk dogs. We are not affiliated with BARC. We connect at-risk animals at the BARC shelter with the adopters, fosters, and rescue organizations needed to save their lives. We can help coordinate out-of-state adoption through approved 501(c)(3) rescues.

🆘🆘 MAX NEEDS HELP NOW. 🆘🆘

💙 Max is a smart, 3-year-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix who is becoming increasingly stressed by the shelter environment. He is on the euthanasia list for Friday, 10/2, with NO EXTENSIONS per BARC.

⏰ MAX #A2097220 MUST HAVE A HOLD NO LATER THAN 1 PM TODAY, 10/2, or he will lose his life. 🥺

💰🏡 We urgently need pledges and a LOCAL FOSTER for a rescue willing to help Max.

Max has shown that the constant noise and stimulation of the shelter are very difficult for him. Earlier in his stay, staff noted that he walked well on leash with a relaxed body, softly swaying tail, and perked ears. More recently, nearby barking dogs have appeared to overwhelm him. He has been vocalizing nonstop, attempting to jump out of the runs, and reacting toward a neighboring dog.

But there are important signs that the shelter environment may be contributing to what staff are seeing. On his walk back from the runs on 9/30, Max walked on a loose leash, despite becoming vocal again once back in his kennel.

Max needs a secure, experienced home where he can decompress away from the constant noise and activity of the shelter. Because he has attempted to jump out of the runs, secure containment will be especially important. He is also heartworm positive and will need appropriate veterinary treatment and a calm environment during recovery. 💙

📝 SHELTER NOTES:

10/1: Max was placed into the large side run, where he later jumped out and escaped. Once placed into the regular runs, he continued trying to jump out while vocalizing and reacting toward a neighboring dog. Staff had to bring him back inside while his kennel was cleaned. Once placed back in his kennel, he was nonstop vocal.

9/30: Max walked on a tight leash to the runs and was unable to be distracted with treats. Once in the outside runs, he began vocalizing nonstop after using the bathroom. Staff noted that nearby barking dogs appeared to make him very stressed. On the walk back, Max walked on a loose leash, but once returned to his kennel, he became vocal again.

9/27: Max walked well on leash to the dog runs. He had a relaxed body, soft-swaying tail and perked ears.

🩺 MEDICAL NOTES:

9/27: Max weighs 66.4 lbs and tested HIGH POSITIVE for heartworms.

9/26: Max’s initial medical exam was documented as normal, with a heartworm test needed.

Found a beautiful malinois (maybe gsd) mix male dog here in the Heights. He has a chunk taken out of his ear and is pretty skinny, so we think he’s a street dog. We took him to the vet to see if he was chipped, but he is not. We live in an apartment and have another dog, so unfortunately we can’t keep him. He is sweet with our dog and my child, and he’s very quiet. Please message me if you are able to take him!
