Pittsburgh Based Snack Suggestions?

I am participating in a worldwide snack exchange. The goal is to send snacks or treats from your area to the person you are matched with, and I was matched with somebody in Oklahoma.

I have some ideas so far, but I wanted to see if anybody has any suggestions of things to put in. What I really want to put in is a pepperoni roll. They have a longer shelf life; however, it is perishable, so I won’t do that.

Mind you, it is being mailed, so it cannot really be perishable. Does anyone have ideas? Or I'd even throw in some tiny Pittsburgh-related non-snack items as well.

Thanks so much!

Does anyone remember Tivoli Restaurant in Penn Hills?

Hey All! I am the grandson of the Owner of Tivoli Restaurant on Rodi Road back in the day. I am looking to get something special for my grandfather, and I was looking to get so good stories put into a book of memories from Tivoli’s. Can’t wait to hopefully get some good stories!

Bob Nutting at Giant Iggle

This is Bob Nutting, right? I bet you he’s the only MLB owner who does his own grocery shopping.

Visited my hometown

Grew up in Aliquippa. Came back to visit my Dad who has never left. Spent the majority of my trip downtown. First time showing my husband where I grew up. 🖤💛

Large Outage in Swissvale/Swisshelm, Regent Park, Rankin, and Braddock Area

Anyone have any updates on this? The map has shown it getting a bit larger over the past hour and says that they need to do assessment, but hasn’t updated to show they’ve actually done any assessment.

Senior help needed

My stepfather passed away unexpectedly yesterday. It was traumatic as hell for everyone. We loved him very much.

My parents (because he was a dad to me) own a house outright and have a car payment. She needs the car for Dr appts. (My mom's health is not the best either)

They got by on social security and my stepdads small pension.

They unfortunately didn't have enough life insurance for reasons that were the result of a shady ins agent. I didn't find this out until yesterday when everything happened.

My mom says she is going to have to sell the house now because she can't make it without his social security.

I don't want that to happen but none of the kids can afford to supplement her the income difference and we bought small houses so there isn't even room to have her stay w one of us.

I've never lost a parent before. I am so lost and so so sad. And I'm here asking the people of Pittsburgh Reddit for any tips, suggestions, programs, anything that might be able to help short of a gofund me.

Also hug the people you love tighter today.

Built a guide to county fairs within 75 miles of Pittsburgh — sorted by distance

Fair season is coming up and I could never find a good list of what's actually close by. So I built one.

It shows every county fair within 75 miles of Pittsburgh, sorted by how far they are - so you can actually plan a trip without hunting across a dozen different county websites.

The Big Butler Fair is on there (largest agricultural fair in Western PA), plus fairs across into Ohio and West Virginia if you don't mind the drive.

https://countyfairguide.com/guides/county-fairs-near/pittsburgh

There's also a full Pennsylvania page if you want to browse the whole state. Happy to fix anything that's wrong - local knowledge welcome.

Assault on 37th/Butler

I was waiting for the 8:10pm 91 bus last night (7/4) in Lawrenceville when this dude came up to me and asked to use my phone to call his mom. Said no because I could literally see the bus down the street. He almost immediately got in my face to scream at me and call me a colorful variety of homophobic/transphobic slurs and a series of other derogatory terms commonly used against women. If the bus wasn’t literally right there I’m 99% sure I wouldve gotten stabbed or something. Fortunately it didn’t get physical beyond getting pushed around.

He followed me onto the bus, and then was promptly kicked off for continuing to yell at me (and the driver) from the back while I was sitting in the front. The driver (an absolutely wonderful woman) and an older gentleman made sure I was okay, and I feel bad for not getting their names.

This guy looked between 28 and 35, but was definitely under (and consistently under) the influence of at least once substance so he might be younger. 5’4-5’5, thinning hair, built like a stick, and has what appeared to be a pretty fresh dagger tattoo on the left(?) side of his face. Kept yelling about how we were “in his town” or whatever so I assume someone else is bound to run into him sooner rather than later.

Edit: since I forgot: he’s white, possibly grey midlength hair but I couldn’t tell if it looks like that all the time or if it was particularly gross that day

any Chinese restaurants that sell peanut chicken?

this is a fat post of me to make, but I've been craving the peanut chicken from my hometown Chinese place. I've really struggled finding this style around here. It's like a crispy breaded chicken in a peanut sauce

Young guys assaulting furries late at night downtown

What the hell is going on? This is the second night in a row. Legitimately, I have already witnessed a few assaults on people trying to get to their hotels that people need to walk in groups or just straight up avoid walking at night. This is really frustrating.

Yinz Like RISK N’at?

Good afternoon!

I’m starting this thread with permission from one of the moderators, but I’m doing it with the understanding that a different mod might remove it for being too narrow.

Anyway, are there any RISK players around? I’d like to organize a weekend, or every other weekend, RISK game. My preferred game mode is Capital Conquest, and I know that would be a lot of rolling, but there are free RISK roll randomizers available that can be used to cut that down and condense games to a reasonable timeframe.

Anyway, that it has to be a Saturday or Sunday is not negotiable for me; we’d also meet in a public area. I think The Galleria (Mount Lebanon) could be good because it has a fair amount of seating and I often see people playing games there. That said, I’m open to any suggestion as long as it’s in the South Hills. I also wouldn’t have a problem picking someone up/dropping off if they don’t have wheels and the location is inconvenient for them.

Anyway, RISK group, weekends (or every other), South Hills-show of hands?
