StormFreak's Birthday (or Memorial Day) Weekend Forecast

Good Morning Freaks! It's almost here! I'm not sure why you all have so much interest in my birthday weekend forecast but I'm so pleased! Apparently, there is even a major Indy Car race in my home state of Indiana on my birthday to celebrate. I guess this StormFreak thing has blown up more than I realized! Unfortunately, the weather isn't looking to be super cooperative this weekend. So, whether you are planning on barbecuing, going to one of the local pools opening, or just running up to Ross Park Mall to buy me a present (gift cards from the nearby Arby's are also acceptable), you will likely want to have some sort of rain gear in tow. I'll break down each day below, but first here is a model output of total rain over the entire weekend. As you can see, this model shows 2.5" of rain in Allegheny County, and while it's just one model run, this has been pretty consistent.

Friday

The day will start cloudy, with perhaps a few peeks of sun, but the clouds will build through the day, and rain will start moving in as the afternoon, and especially the evening rolls on. Temps will peak in the upper 60s. Rain is expected to continue fairly steady overnight.

Saturday

If your main plans are on Saturday and involve outdoor activities, you may want to reconsider. This will likely be the worst day of the weekend weather wise. Rain should be fairly steady most of the day with temps only in the low to mid-60s. I know several local pools (including Dormont and Cranberry) have their opening days scheduled for Saturday, but I would be surprised if that happens. The combination of the breezy, cool, and rainy weather will not make for a great pool day (unless that pool happens to be indoors). Rain will begin to diminish in intensity as Saturday night progresses. There is a chance for a rumble of thunder throughout the day on Saturday but currently there is no risk for severe weather.

Sunday (StormFreak's Birthday)

While rain chances continue on Sunday, it should be more scattered, and some areas may stay mostly dry. Also, temperatures will climb into the 80s which will make it feel much more appropriate for the unofficial summer kickoff. Sunday evening and night will likely see more widespread rain for a time as another pulse of energy moves through the area.

Monday (Memorial Day)

Monday looks to be similar to Sunday both in rain coverage and temperatures. Scattered showers will be possible throughout the day but will be location dependent how much rain you see. Temperatures will again climb into the 80s. For Monday (and Sunday) for that matter, I wouldn't cancel outdoor plans, but I would keep an eye on the radar and be prepared to dodge a shower.

Conclusion (plus an announcement!)

So that's the forecast! I wish I could be more of a bearer of good news, but I gotta call it like I see it. Also, while I like to joke about my birthday falling this weekend, I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. Records show that approximately 100,000 Pennsylvanians have died in military conflict throughout the 250 years of our country's existence. Politics completely aside (please), anyone who loses their life in service to something other than themselves should always be honored and remembered, so I hope you will take a moment this weekend to remember those who came before us and served our country. There are memorials all over our area that pay tribute to those who lost their lives in service. I hope that even if you don't have any grand plans this weekend, that you are able to take some time for yourself and relax.

Lastly, in response to people asking for more posts from me and expanded writing opportunities, as well as trying to limit how often I post here, I have created a Substack. I will still be posting to reddit my weekly outlooks at a minimum, but I will be posting a lot of new additional content to my Substack only (including a story of how this whole StormFreak thing came to be from a nerdy guy who doesn't even do meteorology for a career). If you like my content and want more of it, please check it out and consider subscribing! (it's free!). (Mods - This will be the only time I link to it on this sub - can we just be cool? - Love yinz too ❤️)

Pittsburgh was at one time named the "Smokey City". This photo was taken at the corner of Liberty & Fifth Avenues in Downtown Pittsburgh in the 1940's.

No amount of recycling on an individuals part will undo the waste made by a single walmart.

Door dash and spark make it worse bc whatever doesn't get picked that day get tossed in the morning.

Nothing less then town wide, city wide, county wide efforts will make a difference. Its really sad. I want to be proven wrong.

Psychic Readings?

Some friends and myself are planning a girls afternoon in June and are looking for someone to do a psychic reading for us as a small group of three. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would love to find a little hole in the wall type deal. I’ve had readings done before but this will be my friends’ first experience and I want to find someone who we can really vibe and connect with. Thank you for any input:)

Pittsburgh Wing Night Spreadsheet, Version 2.0

Version 2.0 is here. You came through with so many additions and corrections that I had no choice. Also, being called a hero for loving wings and spreadsheets is the greatest compliment I have ever received and I will absolutely be putting it on my gravestone. Formatted in Arial font. With alternating row shading!

Recommendations for attorney to help with landlord tenant issue

I am looking for an attorney to help me navigate an issue with a former tenant. I am the landlord. These tenants left without paying last month’s rent and caused thousands of dollars in damage that took months to repair.

I currently rent out this one home that has special significance to me in order to hold onto it until I move back to Pittsburgh.

Do you know of an attorney who can help? Thanks in advance.

Absolutely ridiculous the mod person removed an informative thread that Fetterman' Chief of Staff resigned

This actually was announced earlier in the evening and every major news outlet covered it.

No joke some of these mods need to stop deleting informative threads.

Aspinwall favorites

As a new PA resident, I spent all 3 years in Highland Park, and am moving to Aspinwall soon.

Looking forward to trying new restaurants, supporting local businesses, and exploring the area.

I already bookmarked a few places I've walked or rode past.

What are some of your favorites that I may not know about?

World Building for a Post-Post-Apocalyptic North America

So I'm designing a map in which much time has passed since things fell apart and new nations are pulling themselves together. Pittsburgh has left me filled with questions so I figured I'd just ask the key one to y'all.

Where would Pittsburgh ally itself more? Would it join up with the East Coast nation that at this point controls everything from the Ronaoke River up to the Maine-ish area? Or would it feel more connected to a Great Lakes Confederation/Federation [I haven't committed to which yet] that has also been establishing itself?

Important point, if Pittsburgh were likely to go with the East Coast*, then that could give the East Coast nation [which a significant faction within it sees itself as the proper successor to the USA] a foothold on the other side of the Appalachians. So, WV would probably end up in East Coast hands if Pittsburgh goes that way.

If it goes Great Lakes, not sure. Maybe WV goes Great Lakes, or left alone, or split with "Kentucky" [not 100% what I'm doing there yet either].

*There is the risk of conquest, but I don't see Pittsburgh falling easily. Would others come to support against the East Coast?

Anyway that's my nonsense. Thoughts?

Late Night Edit: I want to respond to lots of you but real life keeps taking priority. I'll dig in around lunch tomorrow. Y'all making me commit to story beats I wasn't ready for yet but that's a good thing.
