Katara came into BARC as a stray on 10/8. She was just 9 weeks old and arrived with significant medical concerns, including widespread hair loss and an injury to her right hind leg. Her intake condition was classified as severe.

📝 Shelter Notes:

No behavioral evaluations have been documented for Katara.

🚑 Medical Notes:

• 10/8: Katara weighed 11.5 lbs and received a 4/9 medical assessment. Veterinary staff noted that her right hind leg appeared to be broken. She was also experiencing significant hair loss across her entire body.
• 10/8: A veterinary examination documented widespread hair loss and lameness, with Katara unable to bear weight on her right hind leg. A skin scraping was performed and returned negative. The veterinarian assessed her skin condition as dermatitis, potentially associated with flea allergy dermatitis.
• Flea medication was administered, and carprofen was prescribed for pain and inflammation.
• The veterinarian recommended rescue placement for further diagnostics and treatment.
• She received routine intake vaccines, deworming, and flea prevention.

Her right hind leg appears to be broken, and she has been unable to put weight on it. She is also dealing with extensive hair loss and skin irritation. She needs further diagnostics and veterinary treatment, and she deserves the opportunity to receive that care without her life hanging in the balance.

📝 Shelter Notes:

10/3: Property manager reported that a tenant abandoned two pit bulls inside their unit and requested assistance having them removed. A 24-hour notice was posted.

10/7: Buddy spent the day standing at the front of his kennel, barking continuously.

10/8: Buddy continued barking throughout the day. He walked on a loose leash and greeted neighboring dogs with a relaxed body and wagging tail, although he barked while in the runs.

10/9: Buddy was vocal throughout the day but quieted with extra enrichment, treats or attention.

10/10: Buddy continued to be vocal throughout the day but responded positively to enrichment, treats and attention. He walked on a semi-loose leash to and from the runs, although he remained very vocal while outside.

🩺 Medical Notes:

10/3: Buddy weighed 73 lbs at intake. Staff noted significant infections in both ears requiring a sedated cleaning.

10/3: Veterinary examination described Buddy as friendly but uncomfortable with his ears being touched. Both ear flaps were severely swollen, with purulent discharge inside the ear canals and draining down his cheeks. A chronic ear infection was suspected.

10/4: Buddy underwent sedated cleaning of both ears and received Claro otic medication. He was also given medications associated with the procedure, including ketamine and ketoprofen.

Buddy received routine vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention. His heartworm test was NEGATIVE.

Buddy will need veterinary follow-up to ensure his painful ear infections are resolving.

💖 Buddy Dog has already been abandoned once, and now his life is at risk. This handsome boy is understandably vocal in the shelter, but staff have noticed that he settles with treats, enrichment and attention. Despite his painful ears and stressful surroundings, he has greeted neighboring dogs with a relaxed body and wagging tail. Buddy deserves a chance to feel comfortable, loved and safe again. Please help give this sweet boy the second chance he deserves. 💙

Arlo is the cutest 10 month old sweetheart. I approached him at his kennel and all he wanted to do was give kisses through the kennel door. I was able to leash him and he walked on the leash with some pulling on the leash which I expected with his age and the fact that he is a young dog with energy. Poor baby just wants to play! Once he got his energy out in the run you could see what a wonderful dog he is. He is affectionate, loving, playful and sweet! He did great with his temperament test. He seemingly wanted to play with the other dog.

He is good boy I just think just like the other dogs/puppies at the shelter it’s a lot on them to be cooped up in a small kennel for hours on end! I hope he gets the chance to experience the life he deserves!

📝 Shelter Notes:

9/25: Arlo displayed a wiggly body but pulled tightly on the leash heading to the runs. While outside, a neighboring shepherd was barking continuously at other dogs. Arlo raised his hackles and paced around the run before moving to the far end, away from the other dog. When returning to his kennel, he ran with a tight leash toward the other dog.

10/1: Arlo greeted staff with a wiggly body, high, fast-wagging tail and soft, open-mouthed smile. He walked with forward pressure on the leash while picking up treats from the trail.

10/10: Arlo greeted staff at his kennel door with a wiggly body, fast-wagging tail and soft, smiling mouth with his tongue out. He walked on a semi-forward leash and occasionally picked up treats. Once returned to his kennel, he began lunging and barking at other dogs passing by. He ignored treats while focused on the dogs but lowered his head and returned to his bed following a firm verbal correction. Staff covered his kennel and continued monitoring.

10/11: While on leash, Arlo lunged and growled with raised hackles at other dogs in the kennels. He engaged in fence fighting with a neighboring dog in the run and continued lunging and growling toward other dogs. Once returned to his kennel, he barked deeply and jumped against the kennel door when other dogs passed.

🩺 Medical Notes:

9/23: Arlo weighed 44.4 lbs at intake. His initial medical examination was normal. He received routine vaccinations, deworming and parasite prevention. His heartworm test was negative.

10/5: Arlo developed sneezing, sniffling and colored nasal discharge. Veterinary staff diagnosed a suspected canine upper respiratory infection (URI) and prescribed doxycycline 200 mg once daily for 10 days.

💖 Arlo is just 11 months old, and his life is already on the line. This handsome young boy has greeted staff with a wiggly body, enthusiastic tail wags and the sweetest smile. Unfortunately, the shelter environment appears to be overwhelming him, and his reactions toward other dogs have escalated. Arlo desperately needs an experienced, patient foster or adopter with a calm, dog-free environment where he can decompress and receive appropriate guidance. He's still a puppy with so much life ahead of him. Please don't let his story end here. 💙

10/4/2026: Approaching the kennel, Samson was standing in front of the kennel gate with a open mouth smile, fast wagging tail, ears up, wiggling body, and soft eyes. He was very welcoming and friendly towards me as I leashed him easily and walked him outside. Samson was walked on a loose leash and very energetic towards me as consistently jumping on me to and from the outside runs.

10/5/2026: Samson was standing in front of the kennel gate with a open mouth smile, fast wagging tail, ears up, wiggling body, and soft eyes. He was very welcoming and friendly towards me as I leashed him easily and walked him outside. Samson was walked on a loose leash and very energetic towards me to and from the outside runs.

10/6/2026: Samson will greet at the front of the kennel as he presents loose body, open mouth and dilated pupils. Once leashed he is a bit jumpy but able to redirect with treats. When placing him in the outside run he was jumpy and mouthy and was biting the leash and wouldn't let go. When place back in his kennel I took the dog next to him out and Samson was barking and snarling at him while the other dog did not react.

10/8/2026: Samson continously kept trying to chew the leash, and became mouthy when taking to outside run. Samson showed no interest in treats.

10/9/2026: Samson continously kept jumping up while on the leash. Samson also kept putting his mouth around my hand and tugging on my shirt sleeves. I could sometimes redirect with treats but he would go right back to tugging on my sleeves.

10/10/2026: Samson was placed in outdoor kennel in the morning due to Uri symptoms. while in kennel he was pacing with dilated eyes, panting, and vocalizing. when trying to leash he kept jumping up and was very mouthy towards my hand and leash. once leashed i gave a loud and firm no and he stopped the nipping but walked on a forward leash. once in his kennel i covered and provided a pig ear. he has been quiet all day but i will continue to monitor.

10/10/2026: Samson greeted me with a soft face, front paws on the door, wiggly body, wagging tail, dilated eyes, lip licked and play-bowed. He was easily leashed and walked semi-loosely, very excited, rearing, mouthy with leash and me, jumped up and bit my arm bruising it.

10/10/2026: While walking on the leash, Samson is very hyperactive, jumping and trying to bite the leash, bit employee on the arm, causing a bruise.

10/11/2026: 12:29 Walked with tight leash out to runs. When I reached down to unleash he turned, jumped up and was mouthing very hard on my hand and arm, jumping up and scratching down my back. Same when trying to leash him, had to push him down and hold him down to get leash on, then used leash to hold him away from me while he was still trying to mouth.

9/15: Beavis was described as very wiggly during intake.

9/17: Beavis displayed a loose, wiggly body and walked on a loose leash.

9/19: Beavis walked on a loose leash, showed interest in treats and remained quiet in his kennel.

10/6: Beavis greeted staff at his kennel door with a loose, wiggly body, fast-wagging tail and perked ears. He was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to and from the outdoor runs. While outside, he got the zoomies and tried to play with neighboring dogs by play bowing and running along the fence line.

10/9: Beavis was standing at the front of his kennel when staff approached. He walked on a semi-tight leash to the outdoor run and back. Once returned to his kennel, he began throwing water from his bowl and watched staff while they attempted to clean it.

10/10: Beavis was a little vocal during morning feeding and cleaning. He greeted staff at his kennel door with a wiggly body, fast-wagging tail and soft, open mouth with his tongue hanging out. He walked on a loose leash to and from the outdoor runs.

🩺 Medical Notes:

9/15: Beavis weighed approximately 43 lbs and received routine vaccinations, deworming and parasite prevention. He tested negative for heartworms.

9/21: Beavis was neutered.

9/28: Beavis developed sneezing and nasal discharge. Veterinary staff diagnosed a canine upper respiratory infection (URI) and prescribed doxycycline 200 mg once daily for 10 days.

10/8: Beavis continued showing symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. His doxycycline treatment was extended for another five days.

💖 Beavis is barely a year old, and this happy, playful boy has so much life ahead of him! Shelter staff describe him as a wiggly, affectionate youngster who loves treats, walks nicely on a leash and gets the most adorable zoomies when he's outside. He's even tried to make friends with neighboring dogs by play bowing and running along the fence! Despite battling a respiratory infection, his playful spirit hasn't faded. Beavis needs a loving foster who can give him a safe place to recover, plenty of affection and the chance to enjoy being a young dog. He has so much love and happiness left to give. Please don't let his life end in a shelter. 💙

📝 Shelter Notes:

9/15: Pumpkin was found among a group of loose dogs of various ages, sizes and colors near the bayou and sewage system.

9/21: Pumpkin displayed a relaxed body and wagging tail. She was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash.

9/22: Pumpkin walked on a loose leash to the outdoor runs and back to her kennel. Once returned, she stood at the front of her kennel.

9/25: Pumpkin greeted staff with a relaxed body, mid-height wagging tail and soft, open mouth. She walked on a loose leash to and from the outdoor runs.

10/6: Pumpkin was lying on her bed with a relaxed body when staff approached. When her kennel door opened, she slowly approached with her head lowered and a low, soft wagging tail. She was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to and from the outdoor runs. Once outside, she did her business and then found a spot to lie down and wait.

10/10: Pumpkin greeted staff at her kennel door with a very wiggly body, high, fast-wagging tail and soft, smiling mouth. She walked on a loose leash to and from the outdoor runs.

🩺 Medical Notes:

9/15: Pumpkin weighed approximately 42 lbs and received routine vaccinations, deworming and parasite prevention. She tested negative for heartworms.

9/22: Pumpkin was spayed.

9/29: Pumpkin developed sniffling, sneezing and clear nasal discharge. She was diagnosed with a canine upper respiratory infection (URI) and started on doxycycline.

9/30: Staff observed loose stool in Pumpkin's kennel.

10/1: Staff noticed fresh blood in Pumpkin's kennel. After cleaning, they observed additional bloody stool coming from her rectum. Pumpkin was still eating well and appeared bright, alert and responsive. Veterinary staff assessed her condition as colitis, potentially associated with worms, coccidia or dietary stress. Panacur and ponazuril were prescribed. Her parvovirus test was negative.

10/2: A fecal flotation test was negative.

10/11: Pumpkin continued to show symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. Her doxycycline treatment was extended for another five days.

💖 Pumpkin is barely a year old, and despite everything she's been through, this sweet girl continues to greet people with a wiggly body, wagging tail and the softest little smile.Shelter staff describe her as gentle, relaxed and easy to walk, often choosing to quietly lie down and wait after spending time outside. She's been battling respiratory and gastrointestinal issues, but she hasn't lost her sweet disposition. Pumpkin needs a loving foster who can give her a peaceful place to recover, receive veterinary follow-up and finally feel safe. She's already spent nearly a month waiting for someone to choose her. Please don't let her run out of time.🩷

9/21 Euthanasia Request - OTC | Staffordshire Mix | Black | Female | 11 Months | 37.8 lbs | Heartworm Negative

📝 Shelter Notes:

9/23: Lilly greeted staff from the back of her kennel with a soft face and wagging tail. She was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash to the runs and back.

9/24: Staff described Lilly as very sweet, with a loose body and wagging tail. She walked nicely on a loose leash.

9/25: Lilly greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a loose, wiggly body and tapping toes. She walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.

9/26: Lilly approached staff slowly with a wagging tail and ears back. She walked gently to the runs but became excited when left alone, yelping in a high pitch and pawing at the gate. She repeated this behavior several times. Treats did not redirect her.

10/5: Lilly was placed on the At-Risk Evaluation list after she began forward lunging, jumping against her kennel door, barking and showing her teeth at passing dogs. She did not settle until staff covered her kennel.

10/6: Lilly waited at the front of her kennel with a neutral body. She leashed well and walked on a semi-loose leash but barked toward other dogs as they passed their kennels.

10/7: While staff walked other dogs past her kennel, Lilly bared her teeth, lunged and jumped against the kennel door. Covering her kennel helped her settle.

10/9: Lilly walked on a loose leash to the runs and back. Upon returning to her kennel, she began lunging toward other dogs as she walked.

10/10: Lilly greeted staff with a relaxed body, high-wagging tail and soft, smiling mouth. She walked on a loose leash to and from the runs and moved through the kennel areas without issues. Once returned to her kennel, she began lunging and vocalizing toward passing dogs. Staff covered her kennel and continued monitoring.

🩺 Medical Notes:

9/21: Lilly weighed 37.8 lbs at intake. Her initial medical examination was normal. She received routine vaccinations, deworming and parasite prevention. Her heartworm test was negative.

9/27: Lilly developed sneezing and a honking cough. Veterinary staff diagnosed a suspected canine upper respiratory infection (URI) and prescribed doxycycline 200 mg once daily for 10 days.

10/7: After completing 10 days of doxycycline, Lilly continued experiencing a dry, hacking cough. Veterinary staff prescribed an additional five days of doxycycline 200 mg once daily.

💖 Lilly is just 11 months old, and she's already running out of time. This sweet girl has shown staff her gentle side with soft smiles, happy wiggles and beautiful leash manners. Unfortunately, the stress of shelter life appears to be overwhelming her, especially when other dogs pass her kennel. Lilly needs a patient, experienced foster or adopter with a quiet, preferably dog-free home where she can decompress and feel safe. She's still just a puppy who deserves the chance to grow up loved. Please don't let her story end here. 🩷

💕 GRETCHEN is only 2 years old, 44.6 lbs, DOG FRIENDLY and heartworm NEGATIVE! She’s a calm, sweet, perfectly medium-sized girl with the most earnest little face. She seems eager to please and looks like she’s just waiting for someone to tell her what a good girl she is. 🥹

Unfortunately, there aren’t many shelter notes about her, but we DO know she’s dog friendly and has successfully shared her kennel with other dogs. 🐶 Her previous friend was adopted — and Gretchen was left behind waiting.

She has been at the shelter since 9/4, putting her well beyond 15 days and in the danger window for euthanasia due to length of stay.

Noodle the Poodle fka Don at the shelter was abandoned by his registered owners when they failed to show up to the appointment they set to reclaim him when they learned he was injured.
Probably the best thing that has happened to him.
Unable to walk due to a broken pelvis after being hit by a car and internal spleen injuries, atlas pet vets took him on as apart of their medical rescue fund.
He had surgery yesterday, he was neutered, pelvic fractures repaired, and had his spleen removed. We sent the spleen off for biopsy just to rule out any underlying issues other than trauma due to him being 8 years old.

Kovu is such a good boy and has been an absolute pleasure to have around. He’s looking for a forever family who will give him all the love he deserves!

Why does Kovu need a new home?
Kovu is being rehomed through no fault of his own. Unfortunately, our resident dog has not been able to adjust to living with him, so we feel the best thing for everyone is to find Kovu a home where he can truly thrive.
Kovu himself has been a wonderful foster — he is well-mannered, adaptable, and has so much love to give. We want to find him a family that will see what a special dog he is. ❤️

I work from home and am very flexible with my schedule, so I’m happy to arrange meet-and-greets with interested adopters!
