Mama and another adult dog were reportedly repeatedly seeking shelter inside a local business before being brought to BARC. Staff noted Mama appeared to have recently given birth, and medical records confirmed she arrived with seven nursing puppies.

The puppies are still extremely young and fully dependent on their mother. At this age, they need the safety, warmth, and stability of a foster or rescue placement to continue growing and thriving.

Looking for a young, petite high energy gal? Meet Ruby. This girl is pretty high energy and always on the move. She’s super friendly and did great walking by the other dogs in their kennels during feeding time. She is just under a year and a half old, spayed and heartworm negative! She is a petite 29 pounds. Reading through her shelter notes you can see she is very wiggly and friendly. She isn’t the type of dog you can stick in a kennel all day. Ruby loves having space to run and someone to play with. She’s a super smart girl and would learn tricks quickly. Watch her videos throughout the comments.

🔹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲:

Previous owner reported having Ruby for about a month and stated she was aggressive toward dogs, people, and the owner. Owner reported Ruby bit a citizen but did not break skin, became aggressive when moving, chewed through kennel barriers, and had escaped previously.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

5/21/2026: Ruby was semi-tense in kennel with a low tail and whale eyes but allowed leashing. Walked calmly on a loose leash to and from the runs without issues.

5/23/2026: At the front of the kennel with a neutral body, Ruby eagerly allowed leashing. In the runs she displayed zoomies, playful bows, and a loose wiggly body. Returned to kennel on a loose leash and appeared interested in play and attention.

5/24/2026: Approached handlers with a wiggly body and walked on a loose leash. Enjoyed running with other dogs in the runs.

5/25/2026: Very wiggly and friendly. Responded well to baby talk and petting.

5/26/2026: Constantly vocalizing and jumping at the front of the kennel with a wiggly body. Walked on a semi-tight leash, greeted neighboring dogs, and returned to kennel without issues.

5/27/2026: Placed in outdoor run as a move-adopt candidate. Displayed a wiggly body and wagging tail but paced and vocalized. Walked on a tight leash while occasionally picking from trail treats. Continued vocalizing and jumping on kennel doors and walls once returned indoors.

5/28/2026: Constant vocalization while in kennel. Approached with a very wiggly body and accepted leashing, though she ignored treats. Continued pacing, jumping on doors and walls, and pulling kennel coverings through the door.

5/29/2026: Neutral body with soft mouth and erect tail. Pulled kennel coverings through the kennel door and required a barrier. Walked on a loose leash but became vocal while both indoors and outdoors.

5/31/2026 & 6/1/2026: Greeted handlers with a fast wagging tail and aroused demeanor. Allowed leashing and walked on a tight leash to and from the potty yard. Inside her kennel she could be heard alarm barking when someone entered.

6/2/2026: Jumped on the kennel door with a wiggly body while greeting handlers. Allowed leashing and walked tightly to and from the potty yard. Inside kennel she continued alarm barking.

🚑 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

Medical Notes:

These three young siblings arrived together as part of a family of stray dogs roaming the area with their mother and father. All have received age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea prevention, and basic medical care. Chuck tested negative for parvo, and Charlie was noted to possibly have bilateral cryptorchidism. Otherwise, the puppies appear physically healthy but are extremely undersocialized and struggling in the shelter environment.

Behavior Summary:

Chuck, Charlie, and Charlotte are frightened babies who have likely had very little positive human interaction. Staff describe them as skittish, trying to hide behind or underneath one another when approached. When handled, they flinch, avoid eye contact, tuck their tails tightly, and become tense.

These puppies are leaning on each other for comfort and are clearly overwhelmed by the noise, handling, and stress of shelter life. They need experienced rescue placement where they can safely decompress, learn to trust people, and receive the socialization every puppy deserves.

Tater has experienced multiple health challenges since intake, including lethargy, poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and thick green nasal discharge consistent with suspected canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD). He is currently being treated with doxycycline and supportive care. Multiple parvo tests have been negative, and his fecal test and skin scrape were negative as well. While he has shown some improvement, he remains subdued and continues to need close monitoring, rest, and a clean environment where he can recover.

Milo consistently greets staff with a wiggly body, wagging tail, soft facial expressions, and an open mouth. He enjoys interaction and enrichment and often settles better when given something appropriate to keep him occupied. Staff note that he can relax on his blanket with a soft face after activity.

As a young, high-energy puppy, Milo is having a difficult time in the kennel environment. He pulls hard on leash, jumps up excitedly, paws at kennel doors, and destroys bedding or loose items when bored or frustrated. Despite this, his behavior reads as immature puppy energy and kennel stress rather than aggression. He remains social, responsive to attention, and eager for stimulation and activity.

What a sweet, sweet boy Charlie is despite everything he’s gone through. He has such confidence about himself. When I approached him in his kennel, he came right up. He was so easily leashed. He walked wonderfully on his leash. He is definitely treat motivated. Everyone he walked by he wanted to greet. He walked by a few dogs with no reaction at all. It’s so sad that he’s only 10 months old and has been through all that he has. In his notes they say that they believe that his eye injury is on purpose. I didn’t see an eye injury however I did see a little bit of drainage from the one eye but not excessive. It was just slight drainage. He does have quite a bit of issues with his skin though. He wasn’t itching or anything and it didn’t seem to bother him at all he’s such a cutie patootie and I know he’ll be even cuter once his hair grows back. He’s so young and I hope he gets to experience what it is to be loved and cared for.

5/23/2026: Charlie greets me at the front of the kennel with a soft face, low wagging tail and neutral body. Allowed me to leash and walked out on a loose leash, low tail and neutral body.

🚑 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

5/21/2026: Weighed 43.0 lbs. Exam showed bilateral entropion, generalized alopecia/hair thinning, erythema, crusting, sores, ocular discharge, and demodex mange. Diagnosed with skin scrape demodex and upper/lower lid entropion in both eyes. Started on Clavamox 375mg BID for 14 days. If adopted, recommended Nexgard and surgical correction for eyes.

Vaccinated with Bordetella, Rabies, and DA2PP-V. Dewormed with Pyrantel and given Advantage Multi flea prevention. Heartworm test negative. Skin scrape performed confirming demodex.

I only briefly met pinta bc she looked like she was desperate for some human attention away from her babies. She was the sweetest mama!! She did not stop wagging her tail at me and ate up the baby talk I gave her. She was unbothered with another volunteer going in and meeting her babies, pinta was just happy I was there petting her. We quickly went outside where she sun bathed for a minute and decided it was time to get back to her pups.

🔹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲:

5/18/2026: 6 puppies and mom in a drainage pipe inside the ditch at the field across from this address. mom is able to get in and out of the ditch but puppies cannot walk and are still nursing.

These very young puppies are understandably overwhelmed by the shelter environment but are still showing typical puppy responses and moments of curiosity despite the stress.

• Very young and newly separated from their environment

• Initially shy and hiding when first approached

• Handling requires patience due to fear and uncertainty

• Showing normal puppy reactions to stress (startling, avoidance)

• Can be gently assessed and calmed with slow, soft handling

• Potential for improvement once removed from shelter setting

beneath the fear response, they are still just babies reacting to an overwhelming situation and would benefit greatly from a calm, safe environment to begin proper socialization.
