8/3/2026: Peanut was a move adopt yesterday during the day. Peanut has been quiet and relaxed in kennel. Walks very well on a loose leash outside to the runs and back to kennel. High wagging tail and a soft open mouth as he greets me at kennel door.

8/6/2026: Peanut greeted me by his kennel door with a wiggly body, soft open mouth and high wagging tail, walked on a smile forward leash heading in and out of south but did not pull very hard.

8/8/2026: Peanut will greet at the front of the kennel as he presents loose body, soft open mouth and neutral ears. He is very playful in the outside runs, he will run back and forth.

8/10/2026: Mr. Peanut is a calm puppy, will come to the door with a loose body, soft open mouth. He was easy to leash and walked on a lose leash at times will go toward the birds. He is playful in the outside runs, he will run back and forth, with the dog next to him.

8/13/2026: Peanut presents a wiggly body, wagging tail and soft face in the kennel. Leashing he walks out on a tight leash, wiggly body and wagging tail. When placed back in the kennel Peanut would lunge to the front of the kennel and vocalize at the dogs as we walk by.

8/14/2026: Peanut presents a loose body, wagging tail and open mouth panting. As I leash he walks out of the kennel holding a tight leash, low wagging tail and a forward body.

8/15/2026: Peanut was lunging at other dogs walking past his kennel. Peanut walks on a loose leash and takes treats gently from hands.

8/18/2026: Peanut is wiggly in kennel, if not covered I have noticed he will forward bark towards dogs as they walk past his kennel. I am able to leash and he walks out on a semi tight leash. In the runs he is neutral. When walking him back he did walk back loosely. He is mostly quiet in kennel. I offered him a raw hide and it keeps him occupied.

8/20/2026: Peanut is getting more stressed out in his kennel. He pulled in cover and shredded it. He walks well on the leash and is mostly loose but in the am he began to be forward on the leash as he seen another dog near by. Trying to pull towards the dog and when I tried to distract him in the opposite side he began to cry/whine to try and go towards the same direction the dog was going. Once he walked back to kennel he began jumping up in kennel and was forward barking. Even as he was covered.

8/17 Euth Request | Staffordshire Mix | Female | 3 Years | 56.6 lbs | Heartworm Negative

💜 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

Uggg I just knew that she came in as a euth request. She’s just a timid girl that only came in two days ago. Her notes say that she’s potentially pregnant and still she’s not given any additional time. When I came up to the kennel, she was scared and staying in the back. I asked the staff about her and they said she’s extremely sweet, but she’s scared and doesn’t want to walk on the leash. Not walking on a leash will get you to the euthanasia list almost immediately. I picked her up and took her out to the runs. Sometimes timid dogs will just run away from you and try to dart around the kennel. That’s not the case here. She’ll basically just stay wherever she’s placed. She’s scared but enjoys the attention. Staff love her and I do too. Watch her videos throughout the comments.

🐾 Behavior Notes:

Amma is frightened and overwhelmed in the shelter. Staff found her trembling in the back of her kennel, but she allowed herself to be picked up and moved and accepted treats.

On 8/20, she was easily leashed but became frightened when asked to walk, pressing herself against the wall, pulling backward and trembling.

There are no notes describing aggression—just a scared girl who seems unsure of everything happening around her.

🙏 Anna is possibly pregnant, suffering from dermatitis and trembling with fear. She shouldn’t have to face an uncertain future simply because she’s terrified in an unfamiliar shelter.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

8/19/26:

Staff went to get Amma for surgery and were able to leash her easily. When staff began tugging on the leash and baby talking to her, Amma began pulling back on the leash and pressing her body against the wall. She began trembling and would not walk on the leash.

8/20/26:

Amma was in the back of her kennel with a trembling body. Staff picked her up and moved her to a clean kennel. She did take treats from staff.

🚑 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

- Heartworm Negative.

- Weight: 56.6 lbs.

- Heavily distended abdomen; suspected to be pregnant.

- Redness and hair loss on the distal limbs with thickened skin.

- Skin scrape negative.

- Probable pregnancy and dermatitis noted by veterinary staff.

- Prescribed cephalexin 750 mg twice daily for 10 days.

- Placed NPO for OVH scheduling purposes.

- Received routine intake vaccines and deworming.

Summary:

Amma is heartworm negative/NAD.

Her abdomen was heavily distended, and staff suspect she is pregnant. She also has widespread hair loss/dermatitis, including redness, alopecia of her lower limbs and thickened skin. Skin scrape showed nothing significant.

She was prescribed Cephalexin 750 mg twice daily for 10 days for her dermatitis. She also received rabies, DA2PP-V and Bordetella vaccines, deworming and Advantage Multi.

The person who found BUSTER clearly REALLY LIKED HIM - they kept him for a few days, presumably hoping to find the owner.

✨️ Behavior:

Initially scared but improved with interaction. He accepted treats and petting and began soliciting attention. A later kennel altercation occurred with another dog. Staff reported seeing the other dog on top of Buster and biting his ear while Buster attempted to get away. Staff intervened with a water hose to stop the altercation. Although it was unclear which dog initially started the incident, the report indicates that the other dog appeared to be the aggressor, while Buster was attempting to escape.

🩺 Medical:

Ongoing eye issues with crusting and discharge, with possible entropion/ectropion. He also had green nasal and ocular discharge

𝐔𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭!⚠️💕 BRUNO is nearly 100 pounds of handsome—and he needs a NEW family now. BRUNO was clearly someone's dog. He came in big, healthy, already neutered and Heartworm NEGATIVE. Someone looked after this boy once.

But BRUNO has been sitting at the shelter since July 24. Nearly a month has passed, and no one is coming for him. 💔 Whatever life he had before is over. Now he needs a new mom or dad to give him the life he deserves from here on out.

At 95 pounds, BRUNO is a BIG black pittie, and he needs a LOT of eyes on him to get noticed and saved.

8/5/2026: When approaching and opening kennel animal was laying near the back, animal stood up and move forward was easy to leash, animal alk loose on leash, once outside in the runs started to get more walking up down the sniff and rubbing against me outside letting touch with no issue and returning to clean kennel easy in easy out.

8/9/2026: Dog greeted at the front of the kennel with relaxed body, soft eyes, and a soft wagging tail. Easily leashed and walked with a loose leash outside to the runs. Easily leashed and returned to kennel.

8/10/2026: Very relax in the kennel, quiet and soft facial expression. Using baby talk I leash him up, walks beside me but refuse takes treats. he was very relax in the outside runs and potty in the grass so his kennel is very clean.

8/11/2026: Relaxed in kennel. Remains quiet throughout the day and walks well on the leash.

8/17/2026: Yesterday 8/16 could hear two dogs alarm barking and howling at customers walking through the row throughout the day. One was already covered, but could not catch which was the second dog as it would stop by the time I walked up to the kennels where the barking was coming from. Today while closed a lost pet walked through and this time I saw Erick alarm barking and howling, forward in kennel. Covered with sheet.

8/17/2026: Erick greeted me with a soft face, was leashed easily and walked loosely with a neutral body. Passing kennel, he was quietly resting on his bed.

8/18/2026: Erick was vocalizing almost nonstop as I walked through the row watering and tossing treats. He was easily leashed and walked loosely with a neutral body. Entering kennel, he held a neutral body focusing more on the door to leave than on me as I offered treats and he sat.

8/19/2026: Erick walked well on a loose leash outside. He appeared to be relaxed while outside. Once back in kennel he was quiet and relaxed. Once we opened up and customers were walking by other dogs began to vocalize and he would occasionally be vocal as well. I offered a rawhide and he was quiet after giving it to him.

8/14/26: Frasier was found as one of six loose dogs at Coolwood Head Start.

💖 Frasier is just an 11-week-old baby who has already had a difficult start to life. At only 11 pounds, he arrived at the shelter with an older fracture to his front right leg that has been healing crooked. Despite his injury, the shelter notes that he can be adopted as he is, with further veterinary care pursued later if needed. This little puppy deserves the chance to grow up in a safe, loving home instead of losing his life at the shelter.

🩺 Medical Notes:

8/14/26: Front right leg appeared to have an older injury/break. Frasier was limping.

8/15/26: Frasier's front right leg appears to have an older injury/fracture with a large, hard callus just above the carpus. He is limping. The fracture is healing but is crooked/deviated laterally. The shelter notes that his limp appears to be related more to the crooked healing than pain. He can be adopted in his current condition, with further veterinary care pursued later if desired.

8/3/2026: Puppy was being food aggressive, needs to be separated when feeding.

8/8/2026: Approaching kennel, Victor and his sibling retreated to the other side of the kennel, tail tucked, whale eyes, ears back, lip licked, timid and tense. During AM cleaning they vocalized at a few other dogs passing. Passing kennel, he was resting on his bed with his sibling.

8/9/2026: Quiet in kennel during AM cleaning. Lays with sibling and plays with enrichment throughout day.

8/12/2026: Mr Victor is the more timid of the two sibling that are house together, he will go to the other side to avoid interaction. I went to to pet his is band he started to shake and would move his head away so i would not touch him. I was went slow and used baby talk and treats to help him relax.

8/17/2026: Victor greeted me with a low posture and avoided me picking them up at first then stiffened when I did and curled up quietly in the temp kennel while their kennel was being cleaned. Passing kennel, he was resting on his bed.

7/26/2026: Weighed 14.4 lbs. Normal exam. Vaccinated with Rabies, DA2PP-V, and Bordetella, dewormed, and given flea prevention.

8/4/2026: Clear nasal discharge and sneezing. Assessed with CIRDC. Moved to treatment and prescribed Doxycycline 50 mg SID for 10 days.

8/5/2026: Monitor puppy for lethargy and not eating/drinking. Clear nasal discharge and sneezing. Assessed with CIRDC. Continue Doxycycline 50 mg SID for 10 days.

8/11/2026: On tech evaluation for loose stool. No loose stool observed this morning. Due for follow-up dewormer. Will dispense.

8/16/2026: Weighed 14.4 lbs. No URI signs seen today. DA2PP-V administered.

8/5/2026: Nugget was moved to south this morning. Nugget has been quietly laying in her kennel throughout the day.

8/8/2026: Approaching the kennel, Nugget was standing in front of the kennel with a neutral body and eyes, and low hanging tail. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. She was shy but friendly towards me and allowed me to pet her as I leashed her. Nugget was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs. Once back in her kennel, she laid down on her cot and slept for most of the morning and would occasionally greet customers that walk up to her gate.

⚠️ MEDICAL: Nugget has an injury to the paw pad of his right hind limb, which was sloughing off. Shelter staff treated the paw with chlorhexidine, removed excess skin, applied mupirocin, and bandaged it. His bandage will need to be changed every couple of days, with multiple bandage changes expected until the paw is completely healed.

After 8 YEARS with her family, 8-year-old Lucy is now sitting in a kennel at Downey ACC.

Lucy was surrendered on 7/6/26 following a scuffle with a small dog in the home. Lucy now has a No small Dogs requirement.

But there is so much more to Lucy than that one piece of her history.

She lived with children ages 11–13 and was playful. She rides well in the car. She walks politely on leash. She knows sit and paw. Her favorite thing to play with? A BALL. 🎾

And shelter staff saw another side of her, too.

During her assessment, Lucy was nervous and somewhat concerned with handling—but once it was over, her entire posture softened. She sought engagement with the handler and even offered play bows.

And on 8/11, Lucy participated in playgroup. She was described as social and non-reactive, exchanged appropriate greetings with other dogs, played with them, and solicited affection from the handlers.

She is large-dog friendly, but needs a home without small dogs. Adults only or older children are recommended. Slow introductions and confidence-building would help her settle in and feel secure.

Lucy is 8 years old.

She spent eight years belonging to someone.

Now she’s waiting behind a kennel door, hoping someone will believe that her story isn’t over.

Please don’t let one incident become the only thing anyone sees when they look at Lucy.

🐾 Behavior Notes:

Yuca is extremely timid, often cowering in the back of her kennel with her head lowered. On leash she has trembled, frozen, pulled back or thrashed when overwhelmed. At times she has become so frightened during handling that staff needed to stop. But she has also shown that, when she can manage her fear, she is capable of slowly walking on leash with her head low and tail tucked and allowing the leash to be removed.

Their notes paint a picture of two very young, undersocialized puppies who are frightened and overwhelmed by the shelter environment and desperately need experienced rescue placement where they can decompress safely.

🙏 PLEASE HELP SAVE YUCA & BING — AND THEIR SIBLINGS ROOSTER AND FRANKIE. These babies are only 6 months old, and all four siblings have now landed on the euthanasia list together.

8/12/2026: Several dogs that continues to come into her yard. States all medium in size and various colors. Dogs are under the home, but come out throughout the day and night.

📝 Shelter Notes:

8/15/2026: Timid in kennel. Cowering in the back with lowered head. I entered the kennel and she avoided eye contact. Once leashed she was hesitant to walk but moved a little as I walked behind her. She was still very timid on leash, trembling and pausing frequently. I placed her in a new kennel and removed the leash.

8/16/2026: Thrashing on leash. When trying to carry dog is flinching and trying to bite. Tried to muzzle and carry but dog started to defecate. Left in place due to behavior.

8/16/2026: In the PM dog was still timid but I was able to leash her and she slowly walked out with low head and tucked tail. She walked straight into her next kennel and I was able to remove leash.

8/17/2026: Timid in kennel, cowering in the back. I opened the kennel and I entered to leash her. Once leashed, she slightly thrashed and pulled back on the leash. I was able to muzzle her and pick her up. I carried her to a new kennel and placed her inside.

8/18/2026: Still timid and cowering in back of kennel, biting on the leash. I guided her to next kennel.

🚑 Medical Notes:

8/13/2026: Weighed 24.8 lbs. Normal exam. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, and given flea prevention. Heartworm test: Negative.

Both puppies are heartworm NEGATIVE with no significant medical problems documented. They have received routine shelter vaccinations, deworming and preventatives.

8/18/2026: Was very timid in kennel. She was pressed against the wall with low head. I placed the leash but she remained pancaked. I was able to enter kennel and pet her so I just carried her outside... no muzzle was needed. When I placed her in the runs she greeted her neighbors and started to wag her tail. When coming to retrieve her she was scurrying around the runs and kept avoiding leash. She hid under a bush/tree in the run and pancaked and began to growl. I was unable to get her from underneath the bush so I had to call for another ACT to bring the red board. With the red board we pushed her from underneath and she began to scurry around the run again. I managed to leash her and she walked back inside with tucked tail, low head, and her body close to the ground.

8/19/2026: She was in the kennel with a tensed body, facing the back wall laying down. I leashed her and she thrashed. I babytalked her and gave her treats that she ignored. I eventually got her to walk out and she thrashed the whole way to a new clean kennel before scurrying into the back.

8/17/2026: Weighed 52.6 lbs. Heartworm test: Low Positive. Hair loss on ear. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, and given flea prevention.

Nubis arrived at BARC on 8/9/26 as a police confiscation.

📝 Shelter Notes:

8/10/26:

Nubis was lying in the back of her kennel with a tense body, dilated eyes and tight closed mouth. When staff opened the kennel and slowly reached in with the leash, Nubis began to growl and snarl. Staff were unable to approach and cleaned the kennel around her.

8/11/26:

Nubis was at the front of the kennel but quickly moved to the back while low growling. Staff attempted to lasso her, but she began snapping and growling at the leash and would not allow staff to have it back.

8/12/26:

Nubis quickly moved to the back of the kennel while low growling. After several attempts and snapping at the leash, staff were able to lasso her. She walked outside and used the restroom, then easily returned to her kennel, but staff were unable to remove the leash.

8/13/26:

Nubis quickly moved to the back of the kennel while low growling. Staff were able to lasso her after several attempts of snapping at the leash and growling. She walked outside, used the restroom and easily returned to her kennel, but staff were unable to remove the leash.

8/14/26:

Tense body, whale eyes, lip licking and growling. Staff used a long leash to lasso her while she was growling. Once the leash was around her, she walked out with her tail tucked and followed into a new kennel.

8/17/26:

Very tense and growling, showed teeth and lunged when staff attempted to leash her. Air snapped and would not take treats.

8/18/26:

Nubis greeted staff at the front of the kennel with a fast-wagging tail, soft eyes and open mouth. She was easily leashed and taken outside to the runs, where she had the zoomies and played. She was easily leashed and returned to her kennel. Staff described her as very sweet and loving pets.

8/19/26:

Again greeted staff with a fast-wagging tail, soft eyes and open mouth. Easily leashed and taken to the runs, where she had zoomies and played. Easily returned to her kennel. Staff described her as very sweet and cuddly, noting that she put her head into them for pets and happily accepted affection.

🚑 Medical Notes:

* Heartworm Negative.

* Weight: 24.6 lbs.

* Intact female.

* Received routine intake vaccines and deworming.
