SKYE lost her home because of circumstances with her owner — not because of anything she did. 💔 Now this sweet 2-year-old girl is sitting in a loud shelter wondering where her family went.

Despite everything, SKYE is described as sweet and calm. 💕 She already knows basic commands, is curious about the other dogs she sees, and has even shown curiosity toward cats. Loud noises can scare her, so the shelter environment is especially difficult for her.

At only 2 years old, SKYE has her whole life ahead of her. She’s past the tiny puppy stage but still young enough for years of walks, adventures and couch cuddles with her person. 🐾

📝 Shelter Notes:

8/10/2026: In the back of the kennel in a curled position, tense body and dilated eyes. Place the leash on her and gave her a little nudge to get her up but she did not budge, she just started pulling back on the leash, gave her some treats and she just sniffed them. I place a light muzzle and carried her to another clean kennel.

8/11/2026: In the back of the kennel in a curled position, tense body and dilated eyes. Easily leashed, but she did not want to walk at first, and then bolted out of the kennel. Dog was darting around on the leash, and was placed into a new clean kennel. Very tense when I went to spot clean in the afternoon. Pinned herself against the wall and didn't move, with worried face, tense body, and hard stare.

8/12/2026: In the back of the kennel in a curled position, tense body and dilated eyes. Easily leashed and was calmer on leash than yesterday. Easily walked into a new clean kennel.

8/9/2026: Weighed 45.4 lbs. Low heartworm positive. Older dog with incisors worn to the gumline. Sparse areas of hair loss. Geriatric and low heartworm positive with dermatitis, possible atopy/flea allergy. Treated with Advantage Multi at intake. Vaccinated with DA2PP-V, Bordetella and Rabies, dewormed, and given Pyrantel.

She was first returned after her adopter's family developed allergies, and now she finds herself back at BARC once again. Eleanor needs someone willing to give her the stability, care, and future every puppy deserves.

Meet Mary, a gentle girl who tends to keep to herself and could benefit from a calm, patient environment. She's been nervous in the shelter setting and will need an experienced adopter who can give her time to build confidence at her own pace. From our observations, Mary seems to tolerate other dogs but hasn't shown much interest in engaging with them during playgroup. Contact us about Mary today!

Meet **Pearl** 🤍, a beautiful **2-year-old Staffordshire M**ix who arrived at BARC as an injured stray. X-rays showed her **right femur is shattered into multiple piec**es, yet volunteers describe her as **very swe**et, greeting everyone with a loose, wiggly body and walking beside them as best she can despite her pain.
She didn’t let her broken body break her spirit.

6/29/2026: Came over with a wagging tail when called. Gently accepted chicken from the volunteer's hand, walked very relaxed on a loose leash, entered the kennel on his own, then rolled onto his side showing his belly.

7/3/2026: Calm and quiet during feeding and cleaning. Relaxed body, wagging tail, and soft mouth. Walked well on leash, briefly focused on other dogs but redirected easily.

7/5/2026: Friendly and happy to see staff. Kept his kennel clean, walked well on a loose leash, and remained neutral to other dogs.

7/7/2026: Friendly, easy to leash, and walked calmly on a loose leash. Ignored other dogs while passing the runs. Enjoyed pets and enrichment, then rested quietly on his cot after returning to his kennel.

7/8/2026: Calm and quiet during feeding and cleaning. Walked nicely on a loose leash heading in and out of the south runs.

7/13/2026: Friendly and welcoming with a wiggly body and wagging tail. Walked neutrally past other dogs, showed curiosity by sniffing a smaller dog, then lost interest and walked away. Accepted pets and treats before returning calmly to his kennel.

7/14/2026: Hunter was calm and quiet, kept his kennel clean overnight, did not react to dogs passing by, and was easy to leash. Walked calmly on a loose leash.

7/19/2026: Approached the kennel with a relaxed, friendly demeanor. Hunter eagerly accepted a Nylabone from the volunteer's hand and quietly chewed on it after returning to his kennel. He walked well on leash and paid little attention to the other dogs.

7/21/2026: Hunter stood at the front of his kennel with a wiggly body, ears up, closed-mouth smile, and fast wagging tail. He kept his kennel clean overnight, walked well on a loose leash, and remained neutral to other dogs as he passed the runs.

🚑 Medical Notes:

6/27/2026: Weighed 70.6 lbs. Dermatitis noted (4/9). Apparently neutered. Hair thinning near the base of the skull on the dorsal neck with some scabs; scrotum present but no testicles. Advantage applied at intake. No additional treatment needed at this time.

6/27/2026: Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, heartworm test negative, and flea prevention administered.

7/11/2026: Weighed 70.6 lbs. Dermatitis noted (4/9).
