Hucky didn’t have any luck at woofstock today 😭

I’ve been fostering him for almost 4 months (6 is the longest I can keep him), and he’s still looking for his family.

Mindy was found as a stray and the citizen reported that she had possibly been hit by a car. Because she was extremely frightened and difficult to evaluate, staff could not fully assess her gait, but she appeared able to use all four limbs.

Given Carprofen 100 mg once daily for 7 days as a precaution.

Heartworm test: NEGATIVE

She also received Rabies, DA2PP-V, Bordetella, deworming, Pyrantel and Advantage Multi.

🐾 BEHAVIOR NOTES:

Mindy is terrified in the shelter environment. She was found trembling in the back of her kennel with dilated pupils and initially pancaked when leashed.

But when a staff member got down on her level and spoke gently to her, Mindy approached and sniffed their hand. She began walking out on her own before becoming frightened by a cleaner.

The staff member was then able to sit with her, pet her, pick her up and carry her to a clean kennel without a muzzle. Mindy allowed more petting once she was safely settled.

8/31/2026: Today Marcus was still pressed to the wall, very scared and avoiding eye contact. Staff was able to pick his head up and place the leash. From outside the kennel, staff squatted to his level and he slowly got up and came close. He allowed petting and also started licking staff’s hands. He walked to the door but then became scared due to the noise and turned back around. Staff had to guide him to his kennel with baby talk. No issues removing leash.

8/30/2026: Marcus is timid. In kennel he is pancaked, shaking, and tucking his head in the corner. Staff leashed him and he began licking his lips. He crawled forward and came out of the kennel but then ran back inside. He was left in place due to the kennel being clean.

8/27/2026: Timid.

8/27/2026: Marcus was thrashing, air snapping, and attempting to bite while a muzzle was being placed. He was alligator rolling, vocalizing, defecating, and urinating on himself when muzzled.

8/27/2026: Marcus has hair loss and scabbing on his ears resembling scabies, with a resolving hot spot near the base of his tail. Skin scrape was negative. He was air snapping, thrashing, and attempting to bite at the leash. Assessment notes behavior concerns, skin issues, possible flea allergy, and HW Low Positive. Advantage Multi was applied at intake.

8/27/2026: Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, and given flea prevention.

🫶🏻👯‍♂️ Bonded pair alert! Orville is 1/2 of a bonded pair found as strays in a volunteer's neighborhood. Orville has a doggy cold (completely treatable), the reason he's now on the euthanasia list. He and Billy were originally kenneled together, but now he's alone in the sick ward 🥺. He is such a sweet boy and did great on his temp test with female Penny. He's really a happy-go-lucky guy and just the right amount of goofy. Both boys are young, healthy, and affectionate! While I would love for this dynamic duo to be able to stay together, I do think they could adjust and thrive individually. Either separately or together, I just really want these boys to make it out!

🐾 Behavior Notes:

Orville made a wonderful impression at intake. Staff described him simply as “friendly, relaxed with wagging tail.” He also allowed his medical workup with only light restraint.

There aren’t pages of behavior notes for Orville—just a simple glimpse of a calm, friendly dog who deserves the opportunity to show so much more of himself outside the shelter.

🙏 PLEASE SAVE ORVILLE. Please don’t let this gentle boy be overlooked. A foster, adopter or rescue could be the reason Orville gets to walk out of BARC and into the life he deserves.

8/16: Orville was described as friendly and relaxed with a wagging tail. He required only light restraint for his medical workup.

💖 Orville is a 3-year-old German Shepherd mix who has received a wonderful initial note from shelter staff. He was described simply as friendly, relaxed and wagging his tail - even while being handled for his medical workup. With such limited notes available, we hope someone will give this handsome boy the chance to show everything else there is to love about him. At only 3 years old, Orville has so much life ahead of him and urgently needs a safe place to land.

Orville and Billy may not be brothers by blood, but they are each other’s family. I don’t know what brought them together, and I don’t know their pasts, but they were found as strays wandering in my neighborhood for at least a few weeks. With no reprieve from the increasingly scorching temperatures, no protection from all the dangers that street dogs face, and the clear reality that they appeared to have no home to return to, the shelter was their best shot at survival. Together with our neighbors, we made it happen.

Since their arrival at BARC, we have steadily kept tabs on them, checking on them at every visit. We were pleasantly surprised that both boys were heartworm negative! Billy was even already neutered and had a microchip, but his chip hold ended 8/23, and no one came to claim him 😔. Staff loved the boys from the get-go. They initially would not walk on leash without the other nearby, so once they moved them to the adoption floor, staff allowed them to co-kennel. I can imagine the relief they felt after being separated.

All things considered, they seem happy. I like to think they’re enjoying the AC, the steady meals, and the familiar comfort of each other. But my fear now is that that comfort may be short-lived. Coming up with a rescue plan for one dog is hard enough, let alone for a dynamic duo. As a bonded pair, it would be ideal if they were adopted or rescued together. They are all each other has 🥹.

The person who found BUSTER clearly REALLY LIKED HIM - they kept him for a few days, presumably hoping to find the owner.

✨️ Behavior:

Initially scared but improved with interaction. He accepted treats and petting and began soliciting attention. A later kennel altercation occurred with another dog. Staff reported seeing the other dog on top of Buster and biting his ear while Buster attempted to get away. Staff intervened with a water hose to stop the altercation. Although it was unclear which dog initially started the incident, the report indicates that the other dog appeared to be the aggressor, while Buster was attempting to escape.

🩺 Medical:

Ongoing eye issues with crusting and discharge, with possible entropion/ectropion. He also had green nasal and ocular discharge

**Every day, dogs leave Harris County Pets with adopters and rescue groups. Every day, new dogs arrive. Somehow, Eddie has quietly slipped through the cracks.

Eddie arrived as a stray on June 24. When he first came to the shelter, he shared his kennel with another male dog. Sadly, his kennel mate became ill and was euthanized. Eddie is healthy, but he has been waiting alone ever since.** 💔

**He’s only 2 years old and 52 lbs, friendly with people and has successfully shared a kennel with another male dog. He has his whole life ahead of him—he just needs someone to notice him before he runs out of time.**
