Ruth and Alabama - recently arranged sister-wives

Ruth is my 2.5 y/o female IS from a Missouri breeder, but rehomed from a family in my city. After my ex and I broke up (leaving with her cocker mix) I felt like Ruth needed a new companion. Enter Alabama, a 3-5 y/o female Dogue de Bordeaux/Neopolitan Mastiff rescued from an LA shelter by a terrific local org. Best decision I made for my IS. My logic was if I am already maintaining the high motor of an IS, a second dog would be easy work. Though I underestimated a Mastiffs willingness to be a big old potato, Alabama’s brand of wrestling does a great job tiring out Ruth, though Bama will surely never catch her in a race.

Picked up my 4 month old cane corso yesterday

I just picked up my cane corso yesterday (7/2) and he hasn’t eaten yet. He refused to eat dinner last night but had drank water and gone pee multiple times. He also isn’t into any toys or treats yet. Mind you he was born to an Amish family and basically lived outside until I brought him home. Is this normal behavior and when will he be susceptible to any training and food.

*forgot to add that he ate a little bit this morning but not the full amount

Just picked up this little guy!

His dad is mastiff and mom a pit bull. He is only 6 weeks old. We just toke him to the vet, they gave him his first worm treatment along with shots. He is so dang cute. We named him Abe in honor of the greatest President "Honest Abe"!

Is resource guarding behavior reversible?

My 17 week old EM got his first beef esophagus strip today as an enrichment chew. I noticed it kept slipping into his mouth then back out while he had a lot left and I was worried he was going to choke. When I went to grab it, he swiped his head away and then bolted, and unfortunately I did chase him (I was very worried he was gonna choke).

When trying to escape me, he attempted to get onto my bed but got stuck/paused there and that's where he quickly chewed it down just enough to swallow it. he would thrash his head around if I tried to pry his mouth open.

I'm not 100% sure if he did, but I felt like I heard a growl too. he did end up hacking before swallowing the last bit so I don't know for certain, but it's still concerning.

I hand feed him most of his meals and have never taken away his toy chews. This is his high value, single ingredient treat chew.

I figured this behavior comes from the fact he tries to eat EVERYTHING. When we go on walks and even in the yard, he'll grab sticks or grab globs of moss that I have to pry out of his mouth. So I think that's why he assumed I was going to steal it. (I planned to hold it for him).

Anyway to the point: is this reversible? He's going to get very big very fast and it concerns me that this will be an issue and he won't be able to enjoy high value chews again. I read I can build trust, but if his problem is how I take away sticks and moss, then I'm not sure how to prevent set backs. I do plan to work on 'leave it' as soon as it cools down outside, because we don't have a lot of room in the house to do that the way I want to. Same with 'drop it' but that doesn't help me right now

Tulla

Everything about her is perfect. She’s my best friend. She’s a fast learner. She’s growing so fast. She’s excellent on a leash. Recall is going wonderful (we practice on a 35 ft leash at the park).

She’s gorgeous. She’s lovey. She likes rough housing. She loves to give kisses. And gentle nibbles.
Beautiful baby

Keeping them cool in the heat?

It's summertime in Texas and stepping outside feels like falling head first into an oven.
This sweet boy is bored inside, but a big chunk of the day is miserable outside and I'm paranoid about him overheating. He has a wading pool and is obsessed with the water hose (RIP every sprinkler head I've bought in the last three years), but he still gets so hot so fast. Walk him in the morning before the sun comes out? My guy does not wake up easy. Suggestions appreciated!
