Man, who is surprised?! I really like Archie! Archie is such a nonchalant king that just wants to eat. He would do anything to get a treat from you and with that I would be cautious with any dogs around just because he’s soo food motivated probably never had people give him yummy treats. I bet he’s so happy when he gets fed twice a day instead of being starved.
When I met Archie, he was so shut down and scared! Would just be terrified of everything! I saw him again today and he was just more energetic and willing to come out! If anything he was ready to come outside lol
I saw this cute video and the first thing I thought of was Archie and how perfect this wording is for him. Because there really is a million things to love about him.
🐾 Behavior Notes:
Archie is a sweet, sensitive boy who can be shy, but baby talk and treats quickly help him feel safe. He frequently greets staff with a wagging tail, takes treats gently, knows “sit,” and generally walks on a loose leash.
Outside, Archie becomes active and playful and has been observed playing through the fence line with another dog. One especially sweet interaction ended with Archie approaching his handler for affection and leaning into them for pets.
He is also repeatedly described as calm and quiet in his kennel, often relaxing on his bed.

📝 Shelter Notes:
9/9: Standing with side pressed against kennel, soft open mouth. Leashed as dog exited. Walked on a loose leash with a bouncy step following treats.
9/2: Greets at the front of the kennel with a loose body, wagging tail and soft closed mouth. Quietly will lay on his bed throughout the day.
9/1: Archie came to staff with low tail wag and low ears as they baby talked to him. Followed treats to runs with loose leash. Held wiggly body as staff approached to leash again.
8/31: Archie will greet at the front of the kennel with a loose body, swaying tail and soft closed mouth. Will take treats when offered.
8/29: Archie will stand at the front of the kennel with a loose body, soft panting and neutral ears. He sometimes will jump on the kennel door and stand on two when passing by. Has been calm and quiet in kennel.
8/27: Archie greets staff at the kennel door sniffing and wagging his tail. Easy to leash and walks out on a loose leash. In the runs he is very active and playful through the fence. When staff came back for him, he greeted them with a wiggly body but seemed a bit shy of the leash. With baby talk and treats, he was leashed and walked back to the kennel loosely.
8/26: Archie had been trying to run out of the kennel during feeding/spot cleaning but was able to be lured back in with food/treats. Greets staff with a loose body and wagging tail, is able to be quickly leashed and walks out on a loose leash. Does very well outside. Walks back loosely. Has been quiet in kennel.
8/25: Archie was sitting at the front of the kennel when staff approached and began wagging his tail. With baby talk, he came toward staff and leaned in for pets. He walked loosely outside and remained relaxed in the run. He was hesitant about being leashed again but approached with baby talk and treats. Walked back to kennel and sat awaiting treats.
8/24: Archie was acting skittish. He held a tense, stiff body by the door with ears down and tail tucked. With baby talk he had a low wagging tail, trembled and had a soft face. He sniffed and lip licked when pet. Knows sit and took treats gently from staff's hand. He likes to chew on his pig ear rawhide.
🩺 Medical Notes:
- 34 lbs.
- Underweight.
- Healing wounds on face.
- Liquid stool; fecal test positive for hookworms and whipworms. -Treated with Panacur with repeat treatment recommended.
- Developed sporadic hacking cough, clear nasal discharge and sniffling consistent with CIRD/URI. Treated with doxycycline for - 10 days and, as of 9/10, still had sniffling and clear nasal discharge. An additional 5 days of doxycycline was prescribed.
- Heartworm negative.
💖 Archie arrived at BARC underweight, not feeling his best and understandably skittish, but his notes show a wonderful progression as he has become more comfortable. He repeatedly greets staff with a loose body and wagging tail, takes treats gently, knows "sit," walks nicely on a loose leash and has even leaned in for affection. He has been described as calm and quiet in his kennel while becoming playful and active once outside. Archie can still be hesitant in certain situations, particularly around leashing, but gentle encouragement, baby talk and treats have consistently helped him work through that uncertainty. He appears to be a sweet, sensitive boy who would benefit from a patient foster where he can recover from his URI, gain some much-needed weight and continue building confidence outside the stressful shelter environment.
