This morning we were alerted that there was a potential body in a shared communal dumpster. It was an otherwise empty dumpster, and at the bottom was a human shape wrapped in a sheet. Landlord poked it with a stick and it felt hard and didn’t respond. Uncovered enough to see body parts. Called the police immediately.
Police show up and footage had already been compiled by local businesses. They found the guy who dumped it and went to question him. Not sure if before or after examining the body.
As it turns out….. it was a sex doll. I guess there’s really no SOP on how to dispose of those (or maybe there is), but I guess driving it to work and throwing it into an empty dumpster wrapped in a sheet isn’t the way.
Anyways, I think this guy is potentially having a worse day than all of us so send your thoughts and prayers his way as he recovers from the emotional damage.
Edit: Additional information that I found out after posting - the guy was actually watching from the window upstairs so he ran down when he saw the police investigating. I guess he was worried it was a stupid idea as well. Again, the dumpster was completely empty except this doll.
UPDATE 7/6: the red Toyota Corolla came back yesterday after more than two weeks without showing up. Same situation, stoping in front of our house, leaving when he notices we are watching and then passing in front of our house several times. Today we’ve counted at least 8 times. Police still can’t do anything.
Need help understanding what is going on.

Since Monday, June 15, we’ve noticed suspicious activity involving a red Toyota Corolla repeatedly parked and driving in front of our house.
On Monday, my husband went for a walk around the block, and the car appeared to follow him, repeatedly stopping, turning around, and passing by our house. After he went back inside, it drove past our house six times.
The next night, around midnight, I went outside to take out the trash and saw the same car. After the driver saw me, it drove past our house another five times.
We called the police, but they said they couldn’t do anything since no crime had been committed.
The following day, around 5 p.m., the car was parked in the same spot in front of our house (as shown in the photo). When we went outside, the person inside left, and when we drove away, they started following us for several blocks.
We checked our Ring camera footage and confirmed that this car has been around our house multiple times every day since Monday.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have any recommendations? The police told us there’s nothing they can do unless a crime is committed.

The car has not come back since Thursday. After we filmed him, he followed us for a few blocks and drove by our house three more times, but after the police came, he never returned.
We followed some of your suggestions. We had two e-bikes in our front garage, and we moved them to the back and hid them. We also spoke with our neighbor across the street, who had seen the car several times during the day and had also noticed the suspicious behavior. He said that when he walked outside and the driver realized he was being watched, he immediately left.
We have also been hearing some unusual noises coming from the house next door. That house has historically had suspicious activity around it, with many different people living there rather than a single family, which has made us wonder whether there could be some kind of drug-related activity. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve heard more noises there, so we think this situation may be connected to something happening at that house. We’re going to try to get in touch with the owners to let them know.
There is absolutely no reason why the FBI, ICE, the police, or any government agency would be targeting us.
We’ll keep you updated. My husband has been staying up every night watching through the window to see if the car comes back, but so far it hasn’t returned.
I’m honestly afraid to stay home alone now, so we’re going to wait and see what happens over time. This whole situation has really affected our peace of mind and has made us feel unsafe in our own home.
after getting multiple quotes, I spent ~$10k last summer (late june) to have john nugent fully replace the old hvac system in my condo that had started failing. now, barely a year later, it's failed again and I'm being told it needs a new compressor and that while the part itself is still under warranty, the labor was only covered for 1 year (it's been 1 year + roughly a week and a half) so they still want another $2k+. ("what do you want me to do exactly? that's already a huge discount" - service manager I spoke to)
obviously I'm going to have a different company do this work because I'm not willing to give them even more money when I'm literally still paying off the original install cost. but wanted to share because I know lots of folks are having/going to have hvac troubles this summer with the heat and I've seen john nugent recommended a lot in this sub, but I doubt my experience is unique. they may have been trustworthy in the past but I don't think that's the case anymore and I would be cautious of booking major service with them.
During the heavy rainstorms yesterday, about half of traffic on 495 decided to turn on their four-way flashers for every heavy bout of rain.
This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! I'm shocked by the number of drivers who do so these days.
I doubt law enforcement will help this, given they've yet to solve traffic safety issues in NOVA (even though enforcements are slowly increasing per Virginia Center for Investigation After police reforms, Virginia traffic stops increase, Feb 2026).
So please, next time you're with your family or friends - highlight the danger!
Long story short- I set a healthy boundary for the first time in 23 years and was cut from the family. I have almost all my belongings at another place however I have government identification and a few other valuables there.. am I able to use the non-emergency line to possibly have a escort to be there so I can my stuff. I feel unsafe going there by myself and I spent hundreds if not a few thousand on the stuff there.
update: called and they said they don't do escorts... any recommendations? I don't feel safe going with just a friend or myself. update 2: officer called and said they don't do civil standbys 😑
There are 3 goats/lambs with a police car behind it. This feels weird then I realize the Lamb Center is opening up soon(ish) and there were a few homeless people around the area. Is this a promotion because it’s an odd way to do it.

Not sure in those in the Old Town Area heard the commotion last night, but teenagers between the ages of 13-16 were shooting fireworks at each other. We saw them also shoot fireworks over a house that then caught on fire... article linked here:
We had called the police not but an hour before saying that this was going to catch someone's house on fire and then saw little to no police presence. We have video of fireworks going off over the roof of the house that is now condemned. 10 people were displaced due to this fire!

Anyone have a garden style apartment complex that they like around Fairfax that has a good community of people? I’m single, professionally successful, have a dog, good job, and have friends. I like living in an apartment. A lot of my married friends have really good neighborhood friend communities so getting together with people is a lot easier. I have a lot of friends but getting together requires coordinating to go to lunch or something. Anyone have a garden style apartment complex they like that has a good millennial community? My lease is coming up so I want to see if there are any to join!!!
