Finally pulled the trigger but we can’t figure out a name. Please help.

Finally pulled the trigger but we can’t figure out a name. Please help.

Just ideas. I’m personally leaning towards buddy, or dude. Smartest pup I’ve ever had the pleasure to be around. Basically potty trained at 7 weeks 2 days after adoption from a place he was definitely not being trained at.

Will give 5 whole doll hairs for someone to take this derp.

I love this dog to death, but on Sunday morning, I did not like him very much.

Six out of seven days of the week, he is perfectly happy sleeping in. And honestly, I love the idea of sleeping in for a few extra minutes on my precious day off. Between work, my wife, our 6-month-old, and two cattle dogs, my personal time is pretty limited.

The second my eyes opened, he was already staring at me. He immediately got excited and asked to go on a walk.

I told him no!

First, I wanted to go back to sleep. More importantly, the baby was still asleep. The second I grab their leashes, both dogs go absolutely crazy and start barking.

I told him, “We can’t go on a walk yet. The baby is asleep, and I don’t want to wake her.”

So this asshole, who clearly understood why he couldn’t go on a walk yet, found a squeaky toy that he had never chewed on before.

He squeaked the toy until the baby woke up, then looked incredibly proud of himself.

So, he got exactly what he wanted and got to go on a walk.

Part Cattle Dog…..?

This is Kya. We adopted her in 2022, after she was found tied to a building in Louisiana with her puppy. We have told in the past that her body shape kind of looks like an Australian Cattle Dog, but besides that, we have no idea what she could be… Her ears go up when she is alert (sees a chipmunk… 🐿️) and she is very silly. Can she be part of the club?

If you could rename your dog after knowing them better, what would you pick?

This is Comet. The kids voted on his name. Now that we know him more, I would’ve named him Dobby. He has giant ears and acts like he’s forever indebted to me 🤪maybe I should give him a sock

Dog distribution system???

Something honestly completely unbelievable happened to my spouse and I today.

We got our first dog as a couple in 2023, he was about 60% heeler and the rest was a mix of other herding breeds. He was also deaf. We didn’t really know what we were getting ourselves into, but figured that two active, childfree gays with lots of time to train a deaf dog could figure it out. He was absolutely the best dog, and we lost him unexpectedly in March. For those that know this heartbreak - I am so sorry. I have never felt anything worse.

We felt like, when it was time, we would want another deaf heeler. They’re often unwanted and heelers are already returned to shelters at high rates! So we waited for the perfect one to come along and drove to the next state over to adopt Gus (white) a few months ago.

Gus is such a sweetie and also such an asshole (typical). We’ve noticed that he seems to LOVE other dogs and be very social - he came from a foster house of many dogs. We haven’t felt ready to pull the trigger, but decided we’d get him a pal in a few months. THEN TODAY my spouse happened upon a (purebred??) stray heeler, literally 3 blocks from our house. We posted on our neighborhood lost pets group and took him to the shelter, where he found out he wasn’t chipped. He’s really sweet and was already having a great time playing with Gus so we were like OK FUCK IT and brought him home. As it turns out, HE IS ALSO DEAF???? Did not respond at all to clapping, whistling, shouting, knocking on the window… nada. I am spooked because like, what are the odds????

So anyways, meet Alfie!! Who I guess lives with us now!

My cattle/dane and her basset sister

Never thought I would own either of these dogs! Though I will say, we are going to avoid getting another herding dog until after we move into a place with a yard. Basset couldn’t care less about the no yard, but of course my cattle dog needs that extra space. We didn’t know her breed when we first got her and we also were first time dog owners who didn’t know better… but I try extra hard to get all her cattle dog energy out despite not having a yard. Luckily her dane side has significantly slowed her down compared to some cattle dogs Ive met!

We are looking forward to moving into a house sitting on many acres at the end of this year❤️ There are cows on the property I am sure she will enjoy, and a red heeler that lives there too.

What does everyone use for high value treats?

I have been using Ziwi Peak air dried raw in lamb, but my dog is definitely getting bored of it. I love Ziwi Peak’s quality and will be buying it in beef buuuuut I’m looking for different options. I’m hesitant to try a new brand 😅 I bought Zeal air dried beef and it was actually foul. I opened the bag and GAGGED it was just disgusting.

I’m looking at Open Farm air dried raw- has anyone bought this? She only gets these treats during training, hikes, and other excursions where I need her to be on point and obedient. She does like hot dogs and cheese of course lol but tends to blow me off more- the air dried raw really holds her attention. She is allergic to chicken.

Picture of bespeckled baby cuz she’s cute

I lost my boy today

Very suddenly and I'm devastated. He was so wonderful and rascally and mischievous. My house feels so empty without his tippy taps.

Please hug your babies tonight, extra tight for my boy.

We lost our puppy Belle to possible toxic mushrooms

I can’t even believe I’m writing this but we just lost Belle after a 24 hour illness. She was only 17 weeks old. They think it may have been from eating toxic mushrooms. She had a mildly positive test. She developed liver failure all of a sudden and we had to put her to sleep today because she was declining so rapidly and horribly.

We don’t even know for sure it was mushrooms and we really don’t think she got into anything else on the list. We live in the woods and we do have mushrooms in the winter but I don’t know what kind and I don’t see any around currently. She has eaten leaves and acorns and even a banana slug despite our efforts but I’m not aware of her finding any mushrooms. We almost always had her on leash to keep her from eating everything in sight. I do wonder if we weren’t keeping up with her appetite. The vet had mentioned the possibility of a congenital liver shunt causing this which would also have caused a big appetite and her being on the thin side but we will never know. Maybe I should have been feeding her more so she didn’t eat other random things. I thought she was just being a puppy.

We lost our 9 year old dog Shadow a couple of months ago to cancer and then got Belle. We are devastated. We really wanted to do all kinds of things with her. I’m not sure I can ever get another dog even though I was so sure when we got Belle. I’m in total shock. I can’t even believe this happened.

I feel so guilty. What if I could have done better?
