My 17-year-old Jack Russell then and now

He doesn't climb stairs anymore; we carry him a lot and take him for walks in the stroller. He doesn't want to be alone for even a second and starts yapping as soon as you leave the room for the toilet. He has poor hearing and is night-blind. But other than that, he's doing well.

Two puppies

Good morning! I got a puppy two months ago, His name is Bam, he is 16 weeks old. I got another puppy over the weekend, Koda, he is 9 weeks old. I know we aren’t suppose to change our schedule and keep everything consistent. I have a question. When we leave for work in the morning, we obviously crate them, should we let them be able to see each other or should we put the crate cover so they can’t see each other? I figured it would be better if they couldn’t see each other so they don’t get so frustrated. I can’t find an exact answer on google. Please and thank you.

When the homies won’t walk you so you gotta walk urself

My puppy has been very keen on walking himself lately and I’ll let him. He’s getting very good at it and he’s getting super good at recall and waiting for me patiently. At least I know if his leash ever happens to break he’ll know his way home + video of him eating applesauce as a treat

What would you name my puppy?

Update These are great! I wasn't expecting so many responses but it's been so fun reading them! Since I said I'd tell y'all his name today, it is Rumble 😊 His sister is a Doberman named Hemi, and we wanted their names to match so he is named after the Ram Rumble Bee 🐝

Feel free to keep adding names though! 🩶 I will say that the comments about him looking old and wise are hilarious because he is actually a huge dork lol

He does already have a name! I just thought it would be fun to see what other people would have named him. I also am always adding to my dog names list for future dogs, so if I like them I will save them too. Will also update tomorrow with what his name is 😊

He is 5 months old, 50 lbs, I don't know his exact mix yet but we assume hound mix of some sort. I don't think he will get huge but he will be somewhat large.

How to get dogs to tolerate one another?

We recently adopted 2 great pyrenees puppies both 6 months old, one male (Butterbean) and one female(Coco). My small yorkie mix (Destiny) is 10 years old female.

The male is fine with Destiny as he just ignores her exempt for occasionally sniffing her but if she growls or walks away he doesn’t bother her further. However, the female is relentless. She constantly wants to play with Destiny but she doesn’t reciprocate and will bark and growl at her but Coco won’t stop trying to play with her. They’ve never truly bitten eachother, but Coco has put Destiny’s whole head in her mouth without biting down and has pinned her before we quickly separated them. I would like for them to atleast tolerate being in the general vicinity as I don’t expect them to be best friends.

I suspect Destiny might have been mistreated at her first home (were her third owners, have had her for 8 years) and she is very aggressive towards other dogs and other people she doesn’t know with the exception of older southern women (me too girl).

We don’t want to have to get rid of the other dogs and we just hope to have them able to be around eachother.

Edit: I see now that I’m likely overreacting probably because these are the youngest dogs I’ve ever really adopted as I’m used to older more tired dogs. Thank you all for your words of reassurance.

Wife says it’s ok to hit our big dog because he needs to learn pack mentality??

We have a Bernese mountain dog. He isn’t well trained but he is sweet and loving and I’ve been working hard to have him learn hand signals and try to reduce his food dependency. My wife is a famous horse and cow trainer. She says that giving a dog a good hit is the same with a horse to let them know she is the alpha. I don’t know if it’s right. She has trained several winners with horses so maybe she’s right?

Henlo, beautiful hooman! 🐾 It’s Callie again! Did you all have a pawsome weekend? Mine had lots of sniffies, zoomies, and quality nap time. I hope yours was just as fun! Wishing everypaw a tail-wagging good week ahead!

Mavis celebrated her 16th Independence Day with a 37-stair descent to the lake, quick swim, and sunny snooze. Despite weakening back legs, she has so much ambitious spark!

Thoughts On Bringing Dogs To Fireworks?

Hi all!

I was wondering what other people’s opinions on this are. Last night I went to a fireworks show and brought my mini dachshund Milo along with me. I made sure he had his favorite blanket and plenty of treats, his water bottle and comfort chew toy with him.

We also set up close to our car just in case he got scared and we had to leave. But to my excitement he did great. He poked his head up a few times when the first round went off and I reassured him everything was okay. I made sure to praise him and give him treats, and after about 10 minutes he just laid on my lap and watched them with me. We weren’t close enough that it was super loud but I did make sure to cover his ears with my hands during the finale.

He is also doing great this morning so it doesn’t seem like it scared him at all. I also think a big help with it was where I live. We have a field behind our house that people have been lighting off fireworks in since the start of June. I made sure to take him out to watch from my back porch to try and desensitize him to the noise once he was comfortable enough to. So I’m just wondering what other people’s opinions are on bringing your dog to fireworks.

One day after the 4th: how did your dog fare?

I have had many different breeds over the years. Many of them had a hard time with the fireworks. But my current dog snoozes all thru them. I used to go out of town to try to get away from the booms but now I don’t. But other animals aren’t so lucky. How did your dog do?

What are your thoughts?

We rescued this beautiful boy around three months ago. The rescue said he was a lab/staffy mix, but I’m curious about his ears and ridgeback?

He has the temperament of a staffy, very loving and sleepy. Doesn’t love food as much as I have seen labs do, but still loves it. He runs like a greyhound when he really gets going but doesn’t have a high amount of energy. He’s also quite lean but with a big staffy head.

Any thoughts?
