We rescued him from the San Antonio kill shelter with Heartworms 10 years ago. He was scheduled to be put down that same day. He's only supposed to be with us for two weeks and here it is years later.
Question for all your Doberman professionals out there we recently got a Doberman about a month ago. He is currently 12 weeks old. We took him in today to go get his ears cropped. They did a blood test and they came back and said that his. Red blood cell count was high, his BUD was low, and he’s a little underweight at only 18 pounds of 12 weeks. When we first got him at eight weeks, he was 10 pounds within the first two weeks he put on seven. We recently switched up his food. He seemed to be doing OK on the first food, but we wanted to try a different kind of food. The first food we tried was (ACANA Puppy sea and farm) like I said, he seemed to be doing good on this food. His coat seemed good. Then over the last week and a half we switched it to (Open Farm- Puppy salmon and ancient Grains recipe). We would feed him three times a day at round a cup each may be a little less than that. I’ve noticed over the last week and a half. He has started to tantrum during crate training, not just whining like full-blown meltdowns and it would take him anywhere from seven minutes all the way up to the longest one hours to calm down. I mainly looking for advice on what to do if this is a food problem any recommendations for food to have a healthy Doberman. I just want my sweet boy to be happy healthy, and well.
I only made it to the hotel 30 minutes ago lol, how am I supposed to manage the next few days? 😭
Grinning from ear to ear. She loves Tahoe
Has anyone ever used this kit to stop diarrhea? I started putting a spoonful of wet food in my dogs kibble because she’s a picky eater and I think the wet food went bad in the fridge. It was my mistake. I am now freezing it in portions so it doesn’t spoil. I held food from her for half a day and fed her white rice with a cup of kibble and pumpkin and her diarrhea stopped. She went back to pooping normal after 2 days but now it’s back. Want to try this product before I drop $$$ at the vet
My boy is nearly ten months and generally his behaviour pretty good except for jumping and biting (non aggressive, over-arousal / overtired kind but it can get very overwhelming and bad especially when outside and nowhere to go to separate from him)
Some days a firm "uh" and he will stop or walking away and ignoring him will calm him but other days it's just so relentless that I feel like a failure. Things to help calm him are just amping him up. Ive spend a small fortune on bully sticks so he chews those and not my arms.
I haven't taken him for an actual walk in two months due to the biting. He does great going to into let shops every week though so I go to multiple ones every week as a walk alternative.
Been working on leash skills in the home and front yard which he does amazing with his biting makes me too nervous to try another walk yet. The last walk I broke down in tears in my car from how overwhelming it was.
I have seen so many posts saying an e collar really helped with their dogs. I am not at all against ecollar/ shock collars, I used a mini educator on my my last dog to teach recall (under trainer guidance) and loved it, my dog knew when I put the collar on it meant adventure time, but they are now illegal where I live.
Up until today, I did not realise that there were non shock vibration training collar options and they are legal to use.
Has anyone used one they would recommend? Or ones to stay away from?
In all transparency my guy is half doberman not pure bred, so I hope this is OK here.
We have been playing a game where I hide small treats and have him wait while I place them. When I tell him "find it!" He goes tearing off and is able to sniff them out in record time. Hes gotten so good at it we've graduated to the yard, and even the woods behind our house. Its a bit odd as he is not food motivated on a good day, let alone with so many distractions outdoors, so I think he genuinely enjoys the searching part. Like he has been given a job to complete
He loves other dogs, but is a bit leash reactive so im hesitant to get him into a scent work type of class.
Can anyone help with training methods to begin to teach him to locate a specific object that is not just treats? Or point me in the direction of some good online sources?
There is a lot of information out there, and im just trying to weed out the good methods vs the bad
Also is this a doberman thing? The wild ability to use their nose like that? He is not mixed with any type of hound dog, and any other dog I've owned before him just did not seem interested in this capacity
Included is a dog tax photo
It also ends up taking up the whole bed
My beautiful 9-month-old working line boy has been practicing his place command, training and running around like crazy, and maturing every day. And finally after months of 24/7 puppy chaos with breaks for crating, he is slowly but surely learning to sit the fuck down for like five minutes. It’s a miracle.
As the title says does anyone else’s Doberman howl? My guy will occasionally at sirens when they’re close. He’s a rescue and I’ve always suspected he has a little hound in him (he also lovessss sniffing).
Just asking because i feel like this isn’t a stereotypical Doberman behavior.
Picture because he’s very handsome!
Hello,
I am a 18m whose family has a Doberman. Keep in mind it’s not my dog, I don’t choose how they take care of it and what they choose to do. But she’s coming on 2 years now and is still crated at night and at home alone. Is this normal? I don’t see any other people who I know doing this, it just seems odd and kind of annoying because it feels less like having a pet. I’m not sure how else to explain it other than it doesn’t feel normal. I don’t see any discomfort from her in fact I think she likes the crate at night, but it would be nice to let her roam around like any other pet.
What should I do if anything?
destroys his new toy, then takes it everywhere 🤍

Could use some prayers for my 13+ yr old Dobie. She’s currently in acute severe kidney failure due to antibiotics to treat a UTI from hell that’s was only susceptible to 2 drugs. And probably due to her advanced age, already had some undiagnosed diminished kidney function (just can’t see it with bloodwork as it only detects when kidneys are already more than 70% shot).f
Currently being treated with aggressive fluid therapy etc at home (my wife is a veterinarian). She isn’t gone yet, but the odds aren’t in her favor.
