Senior dog became deaf, high anxiety. Advice needed.

My senior dog has lost his hearing. He was an independent calm dog that slept for hours. He is now not able to sleep, has panic attacks at night. He does a constant low growling and then sharp barks. He is stressed and restless most of the time, needing us to constantly comfort him. Vet told me to up his Gabapentin and Trazadone. That this may be dementia brought on by the sudden deafness. It’s been about 5 weeks since we noticed his hearing loss. Is this a transition phase for him? And advice is appreciated. I miss my dog.

I need to brag on my best boy

Our basement flooded over the weekend and we’ve had contractors in and out, lots of chaos, etc. I honestly can’t put into words how incredibly good Jake has been. I’m not surprised, because I know what an amazing dog he is. However, because he is deaf and a Pitbull he is all too frequently the victim of incorrect and harmful assumptions and judgments. But, the contractors were in his house and got to experience him up close. So many compliments! “I can’t believe how calm and well-behaved that dog is!”, “Ok, seriously? That dog is so cool!”, “Wait, he understands sign language? Dude, check it out. This dog knows sign language!”, “He’s so chill. Come’ere good boy!”, and a funny one from this morning while I I was talking with the project manager, he suddenly paused to say, “Is he snoring? That’s the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. It kind of makes me want to stop and just take a nap with him”. Love him so much! (Jake, not the project manager :))

Deaf girlie is sometimes reactive upon waking, how can we help?

Hey all! My husband and I are fostering a double merle Catahoula/pittie mix, and we've been having some issues 😅 we're new to deaf doggos, and I feel like we keep failing with her because we just don't know enough even though we've tried researching as best we can.

The biggest issue atm is that if anything is near her when she startles herself awake from a nap, she instantly goes for it and attacks it until she comes to her senses/gets physically separated. She's done this once to one of our cats (we thought maybe it was due to the low light at the time because she has issues with her eyes), and just now outside (in the shade on a sunny day) to our other dog. She started to whimper and tucked her tail as soon as she realized it was our other dog, but at that point it was too late and she'd already given the tip of his ear a little puncture. He was an absolute champ with her, btw, which I do think helped.

Is there a way to teach her that when she's startled awake (usually by herself and not someone/something else, but not always obv), that she doesn't need to try to kill whatever is directly in front of her?? I can't imagine how hard it is to be in a new house, with new animals, and not know what's going on, but heck we can't have her hurting anyone else either. This doesn't happen every time, either, so we don't know if it's because of how deeply asleep she is, the lighting, that she isn't comfortable with us/our animals yet, or something else? All of the above??

She's got so many other issues (medical) that we've just become overwhelmed and don't know where to start with this, or how to help her best. She's such a sweet lil goober, although incredibly stubborn and too smart for her own good (she managed to break out of her crate earlier today 🫠), but man she's so difficult in ways we haven't experienced before.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Food bowl recommendations.

This is Ruby (1st birthday on june 10th), she often picks up her bowl and drops it and this was the result after the several months.

Is it better to have a weighted bowl she can't pick up or something that she can pickup but wont shatter?

I was thinking the a weighted bowl would be best idea but I didn't like taking her way off communicating hunger away, if I do it i was thinking those button that record words would help but I want one that lights up so she see it & we can hear it
